@TacoBananaMode He had a better business card and he got a reservation at a very exclusive restaurant that Christian Bale's character couldn't get. So he axed him in the face. Way to over react, no? Haha.
@ClericOdie To clarify, he "fit in" better. Bateman craved the glory he felt from blending in with the crowd, from being the best of these people he views as elite.
Killer 80's style. Dead Paul's hip in subliminal square formation in front of camera, as Patrick lights a cigar. It's not "hip" to screw with Patrick Bateman.
you know, i used to think he screamed " try saying that patrick bateman's a dork now , you fucking stupid bastard ! " which would've made sense too since when they were at dinner paul did say that. but then i found out he didn't say that . ah well.
@SpankingDmonkey It was the author of the book that didn't like the moonwalk. He apparently approved of the movie though.
I read the book first and it is absolutely brilliant. What the director of the movie did was to film it faithfully, but to also make it a reflection on modern society while keeping the original 80s setting. Oh and the lines spoken in the movie are from the book verbatim.
Christian Bale is too good. Just how did he not earn an academy award for this movie? The academy sucks anyway, Christian Bale for president (amend the Constitution).
American psycho and The machinist are both state of art movies. Christian Bale is one of the actor of all time. He's weird but so intense when he does a film.
Their early work as a little too ''New Wave'' for my taste, but Sports came out in 83' i think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Castillo but I think Huey has a far more cynical, bitter sense of humor.
It's simply because one of the most recurring themes in this story is mistaken identity.
For example. Even when he confesses to his lawyer at the end, he is mistaken for somebody else and all of his colleagues believe that Bateman is too much of a coward to do something like this.
Almost all the people Bateman works with are so wrapped up in their own little world to the point where they don't even realize who someone actually is.
i havent read the book or watched the movie with the commentary on yet, but my guess is that since his life is extremely "routine" and everyone else in his life has the same routine, he fantasizes about murdering and brutalizing people
Kindof, in the book, much of the plot explores basic mundanities that he does, like renting videotapes, or making reservations and then cancelling them. He's just screwed up, in essence. It's basically about the twisted nature of his society, the ending emphasises that... the reader/viewer is, in a way, left to question if it really did happen, and that's the point... how can he have killed so many people and have it go unnoticed?
You´re right, but not only are they wrapped up in their own little worlds, they also all dress alike, go to the same places, drink the same drinks, go to the same gyms, read the same mags, buy the same brands...
One of the reasons he chooses to kill Paul is because Halberstrom is a rival of his. Paul can't tell the difference between the two, as they both wear the same suits and go to the same barber.
My name is Paul Allen... and now im scared! :I

2) "Yes it is" at 1:14 sounds so enthusiastic
3) The whole scene is made hilarious with "Hip to be Square" playing in the background
4) I love this scene every time I see it because I get to see Christian Bale kill the lead singer from 30 Seconds to Mars :)
