The Helghast are the good guys. If you read the timeline of events available on the KZ website, you will see that the Helghast were the ones that were oppressed and they are responding militarily because their opposition has come back to oppress them more.

@MAULERK what exactly did they do wrong in the first place? the germans turned ww1 into much more than what it needed to be. the helgast however were threatened by the isa with an embargo which would decimate their economy. they refused and the isa came in and took helgan for themselves. then vasri wanting to restore the helgan culture and take helgan back. it's shares more similarities to the colonizing of the Americas if natives had a retaliation. than ww2. their excessive and corrupt not bad

@spitfiremanlizerd That's one thing I don't like about the Killzone series. They say the Helghast are physically superior but you never see it. As Sev you snap necks and gouge eyes like it's nothing. It's good that they say they are physically superior, but not to show it is a waste of opportunity. The Helghast you see without masks look normal. Stahl doesn't look superior to anyone. Hopefully this is explored in part 4 which should take place on Vekta. I was really hoping for earth.

@MAULERK lolwut of course they can die they aren't superhuman. they are advanced because they are smarter ( most are or have the potential to be) and are virtually immune to most diseases and radiation. the masks they wear are symbolic a tribute to their ancestors. they don't actually need them ( minor plot hole isa didn't bring masks to helghan because they didn't plan on staying more than a month, but they've been there for over a year now and have shown no sighs of rad poisoning.)

Giantbomb just pulled a random description out of their ass. Honestly, I see the Helghast as the good guys. They colonized Helghan to escape discrimination and are fighting to stop the ISA's continued oppression, considering they were never truly free. Visari may be modeled off Hitler, I don't deny that, but Helghan seems to me like a reference to America.

Hey, does anyone else notice that the Helghast somewhat look like the Kerberos Panzer Cops from the Japanese movie/anime "Jin Roh"? I mean look at their design, especially the red goggles. Go ahead, if you don't believe me, go and look up "Kerberos Panzer Cops" on Google and you'll notice the similarity. I guess, the game designers that made Killzone were probably inspired by the Kerberos Panzer Cops.

To be exact the ISA are the evil guys. If you'd knew the official history of the Helghast you would know that the ISA banished them to that planet because they didn't want that nation to get independent and too powerful though they didn't do any harm back then. They attacked them after pretending that the Helgast started the conflict and then forced them to live on that planet and countless families died. In Killzone 1 the Helghast just tried to get Vectar back.
