I saw him, thought to myself how hard can he be. Well I battled this guy for like 13 hours. I got about 3 hours into it, and I just couldn't bring myself to quit. Well around the end I had brought him down to about 4 life orbs left and he did his ultimate attack and Only fran survived so I decided to move away just a bit pass the stairs, and as I'm reviving all my people I see the health bar recharge. I haven;t fought him since. T.T

...i defeat this in just 3 1/2hours... piece of cake... hahahaahahahahahahhh... my weapon zodiac spear, tournesol, masamune... and my armor grand helm, grand armor, power armlet... if yiazmat has three bars left change the power armlet to bubble belt... because yiazmat just doing more critical attack... yes i agree yiazmat is the best boss in all video games very challenging...
only thing i could not do in this game was the fishing game :) and that only gave you a lame badge so you can make the wyrmhero blade. yiazmat probably took me 3 days to beat lol. and using the masamune with the genji glove and beserking Vaan (who i used) is probably the best way and then i used Ashe as a healer and used balthier as a buffer. everyone was equipped with life to each other so no one could die. I set it up to where no one would die but it just took longer.
I just have this bugger left in the entire game.. Cleared him once.. But that was just fixing Gambits+Turning off the TV.. So, didn't get his drop.. I.E., have to do it again... = REFUSE!!!! :P
this boss would have been more interesting if they had spared us the trouble of reducing his Hp to 10.000.000, cos the first 40.000.000, all yo have to do is hit relentlessly, and if they had put more baddass moves on him, not only that cyclone, he only thing making this battle hard is the shit load of HP, unlike chaos ultima or zodiark, they're wimps but they're hard to defeat for the right reasons, anyway this is a one of a kind boss in FF and in all games
i defeated this bastard yesterday!it took me 4 hours!he was easy only until he had 6 bars left!after that it took me 2 hours to beat him!he was the strongest boss i have ever faced!my team was 98,37,38,98,38,98 and it was still very hard!althought i haven't kill zodiark yet :P but i haven't battled him for a long time,now i may be able to beat him

HP isn't what really makes a tough boss fight it just makes it longer strength, magic attacks and strong attacks are what make them tough and btw the toughest final fantasy boss is in FF11 as no one has ever beaten it
@maximillion311 yeah he is the hardest but he is mostly easy in the first and second stage until he has 4 life bars left he gets cocky and starts to kill ur party in seconds but this is just mostly a long battle thats all <.<
@firzen1231 lmao i aggree with u but he gets cocky and things get ugly when he has little hp cuz he uses growing threat and starts to repeat rake and stuff like that i think he is a big bully he picks on ashe when i use her, he keeps killing her X_X and he acts so tough lol
@SuperLoneman i actually dident have any secret weapons when i first beat him, i screwed up on the zodiac spear, forgot to steal from Gilgamesh, infact i dident steal from ANY boss through the entire game
@firzen1231 lol i didn't screw up on zodiac spear cuz i never open any chest and i stole from gilgamesh to bad i couldn't get genji shield and i never stole from any espers or bosses i only stole from gilgamesh and some one else. but yeah i am patient about killing yiazmat sure it takes to long but i dont mind and yeah yiazmat gets cocky i bet yiazmat gets mad whenever u summon up new ppl he killed O.O

@SuperLoneman i cant complet my collection be because i completly fucked up on it and their isent a reason to the masamune because when it dosent have the gengi glove it only does 1-3 hit combos and with them they do 1-12 hit combos from what ive heard the gloves help with combos the masamune get completly amplified by them

This is the best game i've ever played!!!! And I Usually don't like this type of games! You got my respect to get in there and not having all characters on level 99 i did it with lvl 99 (all characters) Everyone who didnt played this game yet... even if you usually don't like the type of game get it!!!!!!!!!! it's magic!!!! the graphics don't matter to me because this is a masterpiece in gaming history!!!! i played this 170 hours and it never was boring!!!! @SuperLoneman i actually never tried getting the shell shield. i just use the spell shellga wen i face Yiazmat. im using Basch, Vaan, and Penelo right now with ninja swords at level 85+, though their main equip is Excalibur, Ultima Blade, and Ragnarok. sorry, cant help u.

@SuperLoneman near the end of the battle, i would say use only ninja swords and always hav shell on ur party, cuz it will half the chance of Yiazmat's death strike ability hitting u. instead of using excalibur i equipped one of my party members with a golden axe. wen i brought him down 2 around 5 or 6 bars i switched 2 all ninja swords. hit him hard with zodiac spear, ragnarok, and ultima blade in the beginning, then go for combos with ninja swords and use darkga at the end.
@DawnandDuskInc lol i am doing the 50 min strategy guide and i am equipping both masamunes with decoys and "expose"ing him 5 times to lower his def by 50% from a 36 to 13 to do maximum dmg and i only have 2 dark swords yagyu darkblade and orochi lol and yiazmat is immune to all negative status effect so no point of ragnarok and i need 99x elixir to be in good hands and a shell shield XD
@SuperLoneman i only used Ragnarok because of the damage it dealt. i also did expose quite a lot during my fight with him. there is an easier way of getting those elixers. if u go down the elevator in the Pharos, look for the magick pot. keep stealing elixirs from it, but watch out cuz it deals heavy damage 2 ur party or at least it did 2 me. btw, how did u find yagyu? the ninja sword im using is kagenui, or however u spell it. lol
@DawnandDuskInc lol u have to kill bombshells from lhusu mines u know the span where its close to sector 11 and sector 5 yeah between there but u need to kill lot of them to get at least 1 of them and it takes a long time to spawn them X_X but yeah i wanna get my chars to have 1 hp but its so hard when i do soul eater so i am gonna stick with 624 hp lol i think yiazmat is easy he is just to long and he gets cocky when he has 4 life bars left and things starts to get ugly
@DawnandDuskInc lol np :D but really its a rare drop not that rare but rare i would suggest u chain them and take the carts from each of the sectors and watch out of the areonites cuz they can really kill u with bombshell if they r all ganging up on u lol so yeah take it as a warning and i finally got my shell shield X_X pain in the ass i am just mising danjuro as a weapon and my collection of ultimate weapons r complete lol

@DawnandDuskInc lol u can get danjuro from killing larva eaters at great crystal which is a pain in the ass spawning him and i am missing danjuro then my ultimate weapon collection is finished but damn it!! hey do u know how do i keep my damage dealers from dying from sap when i want to make them have 1 hp - hp critical to do 12 hits at yiazmat.. on a vid i see their chars not dying and even with sap and it has1 hp.

Can I also ask why you cast float on yourself? I thought Yiz's overdrive "Cyclone" was a wind elemental. Wouldn't that double the damage you take?
The only reason I could think of was to avoid the traps. If that was the case at the start of the battle wear the boots that negate trap damage and run over all of them.
I also beat this bad guy in about 5 hours or so...
Some people shred me saying it a piece of piss and that I'm a newb... It really is quite hard.
Although running off to re-heal at the save crystal is most likely the worst decision. I think it recovers one of it's small health bars in about 10 seconds. :(
He has too much HP. That's all there is too it. I beat him, and I just think they went too far with the HP. Freakin'...unnecessary. In FFX you could do 99999 damage per attack, and even then the bosses didn't have more than 10 million HP. He's got 50 something million HP, and your characters can do a max of 9999 per hit. At least in FFXIII they learned their lesson.
last mission in ff13 has 15mil hp and goes invulnerable every 30sec or something which cancels all ur stagger. You pretty much have to spam poison the whole time...

Well, you get about 255 LP when defeated. And when you report back to Montblanc, he'll give you 30K Gil and a Godslayer Badge, and along with the Lu Shang's Badge and Omega Badge if sold, the bazaar will have a weapon called the Wyrmhero Blade.
The Blade itself has the Holy element with Bravery and Faith buffs active, and a 80% chance of doing a combo, downside is is that it takes a long time to charge and well you already beat the bosses that would of been useful against.
to be honest the wyrmhero blade IS in fact the strongest weapon of the game it may be less powerfull then tournesol and zodiac spear but it has more chance of scoring multiple hits even more then masamune (way more)
I did this without casting Reverse once. Maintaining some sort of existence when he was down to 5 bars of health was hard though! Equip wind absorbing gear (or at least wind resist gear) when you see cyclone come up. 9/10 times you'll be able to do it before the attack goes off.
All in all, it took me 5 hours to beat Yiazmat over 8 stages (Most of the extra stages was at the end when he goes insane-combo with his physical attacks) but when you beat Yizamat, boy does it feel good.
remember to switch equipment back after changing to avoid death strike or use a high ether, as long as reverse is up all the time yiazmat is easy. take about 50 high ethers and as many elixirs and megalixirs as you can but i think if your reversed they will hurt you but i never tested that i just made sure i wasnt reversed when using elixirs
fully expose him, switch to shell shield to try to avoid death strike, later in the game once you can only do 6999 damage you will start losing mp faster so when almost out and just after a fresh reverse (to avoid dieing) switch to the pendant and use a high ether for an almost full mp recovery. people die faster towards the end but i did it with only 3 chars without ever having to bring anyone else in
the way i beat him last time took about 2 and half to 3 hours but i didnt leave to save once and it uses reverse cheapness. GAMBITS self->reverse ally any->arise ally any->chronos tear ally any->gold needle ally any->remedy foe any->attack EQUIP 3 bubble belts 3 grand armour 2 circlet 1 golden skullcap 3 yagyu darkblades 1 indigo pendant (or whatever the double item potency thing is called) 1 shell shield
Basically, one of those unnecessarily long and tedious boss fights that really gives no reward of worth for completing. But if you want to, go ahead. More power to you, I guess. It's time you could spend playing another game, but whatever.
it's funny that almost all the normal story bosses can usually just be quickened and killed. The game only really starts after you've beaten it and want to do all the extra stuff.
I had this bastard down to the last 3 health bars yesterday before I altered my working strategy and he killed me:
Vaan, Balthier and Ashe, lv99, with Yagu, Koga and Iga blades, 2 with cat-ear-hood and 1 with genji gloves, max damage. Each wears a black mask. Gambits make them attack each other when <40% hp (raised it to 50 and then 60% as he got tougher). They heal each other when they slash each other with good response time (although they sometimes block each other which is annoying).
Damn! I ran away from the battle too much! I'm on stage 27 now, with Yiazmat 2.5 HP bar left (HP critical. This is madness, its freakin' combos!!!) The side-effect is that it could now does a one-shot kill on my characters, and he has a 50% of chance to deal a KO through Reverse! And, Death Strikes are now so frequent that I got a Game Over once!! Also I forgot to steal Genji Glove from Gilmash since I focused too much on taking him down :(
Genji glove problem, eh? Never got one, either. Try using a Cat-Ear Hood. Also, spam Haste-Bravery-Berserk. Do not forget Protect and Shell. Take time, you'll beat him. Except God, nothing is immortal. There is no such thing as impossible! If it lives, it must also die. Yiazmat is no exception. I do feel your pain, as I also have yet to beat the superboss. BUT HE WILL FALL BEFORE ME!!!
Want to kill him legitimately with no goofy exploits? Here's how I did it in about 1.5 hours. Was doing laundry at the time so maybe I could have done it faster. ^^
GEAR:
Weapon: Yagyu Darkblades (everyone)
Helm: Duel mask (both of them) and someone else wearing Renewing Morion
Armor: Mirage Vests (everyone)(why? Major speed boost while wearing cat ear hoods. You can score up and over 50-70k damage while DEATH STRIKE is being cast from just normal attacks.
I managed to defeat him yesterday, on my second attempt!!!! it took me 4 HOURS to kill him (without Decoy nor Reverse), i'm happy about that n_n
I have to say: That was the longest boss battle ever!!!!!!! beside of it's 50.000.000 HP, it seemed that Yiazmat had Genji Gloves too cause he attacked my party with 9 hit combos everytime, and off course with that K.O effect on his attacks my characters keep dying (even with Curaja and Renew).
I was lucky that he didn't do that Death Strike spamming in the begining (i never left the arena), otherwise i would not survived. For me, the key to victory were the Bersekers, they distracted him from using death strike, instead he countered with physical attacks or breaths, and without mention the 4-5 hit combo rate (thanks Yagyu darkblade and orochi).
I would like to upload a video that shows my accomplishment (The Godslayer's Badge, The Bestiary, and Sky Pirate Den) because it was NOT easy to beat a guy with that much HP, can kill you with a single attack, stopped your healing character while 2 of your bersekers were attacking, and casted reflectga on you to fully heal itself with one of your Renews!!!

I beat this boss with level 80 characters, i only left once to buy more pheonix downs because i used up all 99.......... took me 37 hours!!!!!!!!!
This is definatley the hardest ff boss there is to date! i would suggest having level 90 characters.
For anyone out there waiting to take this challenge....... be prepared

@SuperLoneman near the end of the battle, i would say use only ninja swords and always hav shell on ur party, cuz it will half the chance of Yiazmat's death strike ability hitting u. instead of using excalibur i equipped one of my party members with a golden axe. wen i brought him down 2 around 5 or 6 bars i switched 2 all ninja swords. hit him hard with zodiac spear, ragnarok, and ultima blade in the beginning, then go for combos with ninja swords and use darkga at the end.

@DawnandDuskInc lol i am doing the 50 min strategy guide and i am equipping both masamunes with decoys and "expose"ing him 5 times to lower his def by 50% from a 36 to 13 to do maximum dmg and i only have 2 dark swords yagyu darkblade and orochi lol and yiazmat is immune to all negative status effect so no point of ragnarok and i need 99x elixir to be in good hands and a shell shield XD

@SuperLoneman i only used Ragnarok because of the damage it dealt. i also did expose quite a lot during my fight with him. there is an easier way of getting those elixers. if u go down the elevator in the Pharos, look for the magick pot. keep stealing elixirs from it, but watch out cuz it deals heavy damage 2 ur party or at least it did 2 me. btw, how did u find yagyu? the ninja sword im using is kagenui, or however u spell it. lol

@DawnandDuskInc lol u have to kill bombshells from lhusu mines u know the span where its close to sector 11 and sector 5 yeah between there but u need to kill lot of them to get at least 1 of them and it takes a long time to spawn them X_X but yeah i wanna get my chars to have 1 hp but its so hard when i do soul eater so i am gonna stick with 624 hp lol i think yiazmat is easy he is just to long and he gets cocky when he has 4 life bars left and things starts to get ugly

@DawnandDuskInc lol u can get danjuro from killing larva eaters at great crystal which is a pain in the ass spawning him and i am missing danjuro then my ultimate weapon collection is finished but damn it!! hey do u know how do i keep my damage dealers from dying from sap when i want to make them have 1 hp - hp critical to do 12 hits at yiazmat.. on a vid i see their chars not dying and even with sap and it has1 hp.

Can I also ask why you cast float on yourself? I thought Yiz's overdrive "Cyclone" was a wind elemental. Wouldn't that double the damage you take?
The only reason I could think of was to avoid the traps. If that was the case at the start of the battle wear the boots that negate trap damage and run over all of them.

Some people shred me saying it a piece of piss and that I'm a newb... It really is quite hard.
Although running off to re-heal at the save crystal is most likely the worst decision. I think it recovers one of it's small health bars in about 10 seconds. :(

I did the research, and it says that Omega Mark XII has more power than Yiazmat. But, only a little.
The HP says that Omega's is 10,370,699 at the most, and Yiazmat is 50,112,254.

He has too much HP. That's all there is too it. I beat him, and I just think they went too far with the HP. Freakin'...unnecessary. In FFX you could do 99999 damage per attack, and even then the bosses didn't have more than 10 million HP. He's got 50 something million HP, and your characters can do a max of 9999 per hit. At least in FFXIII they learned their lesson.

Well, you get about 255 LP when defeated. And when you report back to Montblanc, he'll give you 30K Gil and a Godslayer Badge, and along with the Lu Shang's Badge and Omega Badge if sold, the bazaar will have a weapon called the Wyrmhero Blade.
The Blade itself has the Holy element with Bravery and Faith buffs active, and a 80% chance of doing a combo, downside is is that it takes a long time to charge and well you already beat the bosses that would of been useful against.

Well you can get it for bragging rights, and the weapons has a pretty nice design too.
You can always use it to get any rare monsters you missed, or grind for some rare armors and weapons from drops.
Omega is pretty easy with the right gambits, but it can go wrong in an instant.
As for the Lu Shang's badge, you get it from the fishing minigame, only advice I can give you is practice and memorization, plus a guide.

to be honest the wyrmhero blade IS in fact the strongest weapon of the game it may be less powerfull then tournesol and zodiac spear but it has more chance of scoring multiple hits even more then masamune (way more)

I did this without casting Reverse once. Maintaining some sort of existence when he was down to 5 bars of health was hard though! Equip wind absorbing gear (or at least wind resist gear) when you see cyclone come up. 9/10 times you'll be able to do it before the attack goes off.
All in all, it took me 5 hours to beat Yiazmat over 8 stages (Most of the extra stages was at the end when he goes insane-combo with his physical attacks) but when you beat Yizamat, boy does it feel good.

remember to switch equipment back after changing to avoid death strike or use a high ether, as long as reverse is up all the time yiazmat is easy. take about 50 high ethers and as many elixirs and megalixirs as you can but i think if your reversed they will hurt you but i never tested that i just made sure i wasnt reversed when using elixirs

fully expose him, switch to shell shield to try to avoid death strike, later in the game once you can only do 6999 damage you will start losing mp faster so when almost out and just after a fresh reverse (to avoid dieing) switch to the pendant and use a high ether for an almost full mp recovery. people die faster towards the end but i did it with only 3 chars without ever having to bring anyone else in

I had this bastard down to the last 3 health bars yesterday before I altered my working strategy and he killed me:
Vaan, Balthier and Ashe, lv99, with Yagu, Koga and Iga blades, 2 with cat-ear-hood and 1 with genji gloves, max damage. Each wears a black mask. Gambits make them attack each other when <40% hp (raised it to 50 and then 60% as he got tougher). They heal each other when they slash each other with good response time (although they sometimes block each other which is annoying).

Damn! I ran away from the battle too much! I'm on stage 27 now, with Yiazmat 2.5 HP bar left (HP critical. This is madness, its freakin' combos!!!) The side-effect is that it could now does a one-shot kill on my characters, and he has a 50% of chance to deal a KO through Reverse! And, Death Strikes are now so frequent that I got a Game Over once!! Also I forgot to steal Genji Glove from Gilmash since I focused too much on taking him down :(

Genji glove problem, eh? Never got one, either. Try using a Cat-Ear Hood. Also, spam Haste-Bravery-Berserk. Do not forget Protect and Shell. Take time, you'll beat him. Except God, nothing is immortal. There is no such thing as impossible! If it lives, it must also die. Yiazmat is no exception. I do feel your pain, as I also have yet to beat the superboss. BUT HE WILL FALL BEFORE ME!!!

Want to kill him legitimately with no goofy exploits? Here's how I did it in about 1.5 hours. Was doing laundry at the time so maybe I could have done it faster. ^^
GEAR:
Weapon: Yagyu Darkblades (everyone)
Helm: Duel mask (both of them) and someone else wearing Renewing Morion
Armor: Mirage Vests (everyone)(why? Major speed boost while wearing cat ear hoods. You can score up and over 50-70k damage while DEATH STRIKE is being cast from just normal attacks.

I managed to defeat him yesterday, on my second attempt!!!! it took me 4 HOURS to kill him (without Decoy nor Reverse), i'm happy about that n_n
I have to say: That was the longest boss battle ever!!!!!!! beside of it's 50.000.000 HP, it seemed that Yiazmat had Genji Gloves too cause he attacked my party with 9 hit combos everytime, and off course with that K.O effect on his attacks my characters keep dying (even with Curaja and Renew).

I was lucky that he didn't do that Death Strike spamming in the begining (i never left the arena), otherwise i would not survived. For me, the key to victory were the Bersekers, they distracted him from using death strike, instead he countered with physical attacks or breaths, and without mention the 4-5 hit combo rate (thanks Yagyu darkblade and orochi).

I would like to upload a video that shows my accomplishment (The Godslayer's Badge, The Bestiary, and Sky Pirate Den) because it was NOT easy to beat a guy with that much HP, can kill you with a single attack, stopped your healing character while 2 of your bersekers were attacking, and casted reflectga on you to fully heal itself with one of your Renews!!!
