  • Was looking for 'As The End Draws Near' by SD6 but couldn't find it. If it's on YouTube I would be grateful for the link. That said, I decided to give this tune a listen and it's pretty good. Now I'm not very good at history and famous people but is that Winston Churchill at the end? Also, can anyone please tell me what's going on at 0:15 where somebody has a gas mask on? Have seen another music video with a similar clip in. Thanks!!!

  • @fishyfingersparty That is indeed Winston Churchill- Inspiration to so many. A man that won WW2. Superb Public Speaker. A true Inspiration. I directed the video so I know. I could explain all aspects of this music video, but my personal time is limited. Someday I will. I look forward to that as well as explaining all the other aspects of the band MANUFACTURE. No time right now, perhaps time in the future. All of you just let me know........ Many many stories coming.

    Thanks for your comment!

  • this is a very cool track.what ever happened to manufacture?this is great!

  • i just discovered these guys from a documentary on cyberpunk and i love it so much. i must have listened to this one track over 100 times. stuff like this always makes me wish i was born a bit earlier so i could have fully enjoyed this during the time it was produced.

  • Brian, I'm a big fan of Manufacture, I always wondered if the Gregg Hawkes that worked with you guys at some point was the same guy from The Cars? (since you're both from Boston)

  • @bsynth8

That indeed was the same Gregg Hawkes of the Cars. Manufacture always admired his work with the Cars and we became friends and worked together on "Voice of World Control". It was a real pleasure then to have his input on the album. Brian Bothwell, Perry Geyer remain friends with Gregg Hawkes to this very day and we wish him the best for the new Cars album "Move Like This" , which recently was released.

  • @Surfinbirdnyc Thanks for the back story Brian. I have the new Cars CD and had the pleasure of seeing them perform in L.A. earlier this year.

  • @bsynth8

Caught the Show in NYC too. Was awesome. I hope the Cars will continue. Their work was brilliant in the past.; One of my favorites was "Double Life" from the Cars album "Candy O". It was an inspiration!

  • @bsynth8 - Absolutely True! Gregg Hawkes worked with us and remains a close friend to this day. Gregg was an inspiration and a true pioneer. Gregg has a certain cool factor that has never gone away. His influence can be heard in many areas. Thanks for posting! -Brian B----> MANUFACTURE.

  • I was sort of friends with Brian Bothwell, the director of this video and the member of the band that is hitting pads with the drumstick. He was into harder industrial music, and really hated the pop direction the band was going in. True story: They had a local hit in Boston in the early 90's (forget the name of the track) , and at their first show after it's release he was so annoyed he started yelling "This song really sucks" while the other guy was trying to get the crowd amped up.

  • @AgentXPQ Was it Control Yourself? That's the only song that really resembled a mainstream pop direction for them. Even "New Direction" with the same vocalist was a good song.

  • @AgentXPQ

That sounds like something I would have done at that particular time........ !!! LOL! That was a long time ago, I am all better now! LOL!

  • @AgentXPQ The song that was the local hit must have been Control Yourself. I can't think of another song that was poppy from them. Plus they released it as a single.

  • wacth what you buy. this season

  • Love this Album!

I was listening to Control Yourself on my iPod and thought to search for Manufacture to see if there where some videos and sure enough, several!

    Excellent work!

  • @bmw916

Thanks very much for the comment! Manufacture appreciates it!

  • dj over kill houston tx wats up

  • Ahhh - great Boston music from a great music label. I miss those days of Nettwerk. These guys put on an awsome show!!

Cool to see Brian reply to a post - you still doing stuff in Boston??

  • @johnmcboston

Hey there ! No I (Brian Bothwell) am in New York City working as an artist / photographer. Perry Geyer is still in Boston and owns and operates Cyber Sound Studios where he records and produces.

  • @Surfinbirdnyc wow,such awesome music.

    80s were a blast~!

    thanks

  • Brilliant track; great song, great vocals; great arrangement. Manufacture's "Terrorvision" is still my fave of all cyberpunk-e.b.m. genre albums.

  • And I love the video - never saw it before!

  • One of my favorite dancefloor songs EVER!! A DJ friend of mine would play this at the beginning of the night (my fave time, since the dancefloor was practically empty and I had it to myself) then drop it again in the middle of the night when the crowd was at full capacity...showed who the posers were when the floor cleared, except for a handful of peeps who appreciated good music. I STILL play this CD often, some great electronic music!!

  • I recently became aware of this song because of Sanctuary Radio (dot com...).. Amazing combination of elements.. And, it feeds my love of samples.. How did I not hear this at Kontrol Faktory in the mid 90s!? Not stompy enough perhaps?

  • This is one of my all time favorites...

  • magic song from nettwerk. always 100% kvalitet!! GREAT STUFF!! :D

  • anyone know where to find the uncensored version of this.

it used to float around out here in cyberspace?

    thanks L.

  • LOLOL dancing to this in black light and not much else in an underground club in Wichita, Kansas....gone forever, but my memory's reeeeal good :)

  • Sexy!!!

  • I feel as though I've been transported back 20 years and I'm, dancing at Medusa's. Still a great track!

  • found the vinyl for a dollar...crazy

  • When i die i'm taking this cd with me

  • hey Brian...went to a local bar tonight..retro industrial theme night....they played this...was a blast hitting the dance floor

  • man oh man takes me back to my early days at Axis and Ground Zero. I think I actually saw them at Axis a couple of times. I remember seeing them somewhere!!

  • actually, this is how i found sarah mclachlan, then i rushed out to buy "Touch", before anyone knew about it. She started out on Nettwerk just like Skinny Puppy, etc. but Terrorvision was kickass on its own merits

  • Moev (whose members were responsible for founding Nettwerk) wanted Sarah McLachan to front for them but she decided she wanted to go solo. But yes when this song came out she was a complete unknown. I remember seeing one of her first gigs in Vancouver when she opened for two other acts. No one had a clue back then she would go on to stardom, she just seemed like another one of their artists that did one album and then disappeared (Lava Hay or The Water Walk anyone?)

  • i had no idea she was associated with moev. (i always wondered why they werent more popular, like say clan of xymox). i do remember lava hay from a nettwerk sampler i had. i think it also had greater reward by SEVERED HEADS. haha. remember all saints day and big car? fun stuff. )

  • It was around the time of Dusk & Desire and Moev was on a revolving door with female vocalists (having lost Michela Arichello who had replaced orignal vocalist Madeline Morris.

Sarah somehow caught their attention but she didn't want to front a band, so she pursued a solo career signed to Nettwerk.

  • Comment removed

  • @winniefrankwilliam1 I'm just recalling what I read in local music rags back then. I used to follow the Nettwerk bands of the late 1980s pretty closely and go to their gigs here in Vancouver where most of the bands were based. First music review I ever read about Sarah (for Vox, I believe it was in The Discorder) mentioned how Moev had approached her for vocalist

  • HAH! i danced to this saturday night at the club!! woot woot great fucking song

  • The best Industrial video next to Stripped by Depeche Mode.

  • @fr0ntl1n3 Now that you mention Depeche Mode, the backing of this song sounds VERY close to that in DM's "Policy Of Truth" I must say...

  • @pianoman74

The track was completed and released far earlier than "Policy of Truth" Just sayin........

  • Klassik Houston underground!!

  • I remember first seeing this back in '89 on 120 Minutes, and was quickly taken aback. I've bought bought both Terrorvision and Voice of World Control on cassette, CD, and now on iTunes. Without a doubt, my favorite industrial band; I just wished there was more material.

  • Had the album back in the day and now the CD. I hadn't heard of SM until I knew she sang in the song, then i heard her stuff on the radio. Maybe Manufacture gave her her start.

Manufacture rocks as I find that is one OF the best albums/CD in my collection. I still listen to it and can never get enough.

  • Wow youtube is amazing! I never thought I hear this song again let alone a video! This takes me way back to when I was 13,sneaking into clubs in Chicago..incredible times!!

  • Wow, who knew there was a video! I still love the song, especially the samples of Churchill and the ones from The Illustrated Man. Thanks for posting this!

  • dj roger wilson would rock this one out in atx clubs way back in the day

  • Used to soin this track as part of my regular sets at 1415, Red Square, Club SPY, etc...Manufacture Rocks!!!

    Breye 7x

  • Breye I didn't know you DJ'ed at Red Square! I was there every Friday for '80s and Saturday for 90's. I do remember Blake Davidson.

  • I was in the upstairs room on Wednesdays, an occasional guest on Fridays as the closer.

    Breye 7x

  • This is probably the best band that ever came out of Boston.

  • still love this song! i never even connected sarah with it back then even tho i was into her stuff aswell ;) doh .. and i even worked @ nettwerk for a while heheh madness ;p

  • Man, i love these old school Nettwerk artists....freakin' sweet!!!!! Thank you soooooo much!!!!!

  • Hell yes!! Excellent choice! This rocked back in the day, still does! Thanx for sharing

  • This is way more hypnotic than I remembered from when this CD first came out. Classy vocals from Sarah McL. make the track work.

  • Thanks Everybody for the kind comments about my video work!

    I greatly Appreciate it!

    Brian Bothwell (Manufacture)

  • where is the new music?

  • @classof77

would have been fine without her ... but yeah she's a plus here

  • Still looks and sounds great!!

  • awsome.

  • BB - wasn't there a video made from one of the "Voice Of World Control" tracks as well? I saw about 30 seconds of it on one of the TVs in a record store, never saw it again. Could you post?

  • I miss Kkkkkkk....kelly walking up and down Newbury St. and that little Tania too!

  • thank you...thank you...thank you... still a great song!

  • Wow..Its nice to see this blast from the past...dusting of the cd as we speak...lol

  • Thanks Blane!

  • @Surfinbirdnyc

I discovered this by accident,I was a huge Sarah fan from when she released into the fire from her Solace release) but also a fan of bands like Skinny Puppy & F.L.A. . I was at an indie record store & they had the Manufacture cassette(that I still own! on sale for $10,Had no idea what the band would sound like or who they were but the name grabbed me and said "you will like this!" So I bought it full price - took it home & heard this, was hooked! Wish the band would have cont...
