i did all this, and it didnt work! like i cut out a design of a gun and a skull with an x acto knife, and it looked real good! then i painted it and it bled through tape! i used like really expensive painters tape, and it still didnt work!!!
@1blackhawk2 i didnt use spray paint, i used like regular brush on model paint... i guess i shouldn't have? Ill try it again with spray paint though, lol and i said that it was expensive tape cause i didnt want you to think that i was using crap :)
@1blackhawk2 i just wanna write my clan name on my controller, can i make the letters with tape, then tape up all my controller paint my thing and then put the glossy shit, or will it not feel the same as the controller and I will have a little clan name that doesnt feel like the rest of my controller
I can't be bothered to make them even though you can kind of customize them but you need to much to do it. I did buy some Xbox 360 call of duty vinyl stickers for my 360 controller and I'm loving them!!!
hu... thats strange.... i dont really have an explanation for that, thats really stange.. i cant really think of any reason why that would happen. maybe you got some oil from your hands on the controller or something, but i wouldn't think that would make it crack right away.
Hey man, I just finish the colour on a tiger stripe controller, I noticed you can feel the groves of where the tiger stripes were, would a clear coat even that out?
Lol no I wasn't even thinking about skipping it, but that's sick.
I think I'm going to have to sand the controller i just finished :( When I put on the cover coat, the black started to crack. around any edges on the controller. Damn, any idea why it did that?
@flayflier you probably used the wronge clear coat, different clear coats dry differently, i would tell you the correct kind and the kind that doesn't work, but i cant remember off the top of my head
@1blackhawk2 I haven't even gotten to the clear coat yet, I'm using Krylon Fusion, and I put a White base coat, when I applied the Black cover coat it cracked.
@flayflier were glovers and before u paint wash the controller with soap and water. if u leave finger prints it will crank and fisheye. trust me ive done that twice.
@stupify4life you can try it, it sounds like it might be a little hard to do it on plastic. If you dont want it to get ruined i wouldn't, if its just scrap, then why not, but i think your probably gonna dig into the plastic with your knife
@taylorforbes ya, the same way. But if you want youcan taje a verry fine sand paper and just barley scuff it up, then clean it up in warm soapy water and paint it. Make sure when your sanding your verry gentle tho, dont leave any deap scuffs or hey will show up even after you paint it
Ok so I have a question.. I wanna get started doing this, and I think (emphasis on think) I should use some Krylon spray paint made for plastic, and automotive clear coat sealer so the paint will last. Comments? (Oh and I'll dye the rubber pieces and buttons and such..)
@TheSleightOfHandPro Krylon for plastics is great paint, im not sure what the automotive clear coat will do but it should be fine, i would just check around some other videos to make sure first, certain clear coats can dry in such a way that it cracks the paint under it. when you go out to get your paint check and see if they have the krylon for plastics clear coat
im not sure how you plan to dye the buttons tho, but i know nothing about it, haha.
@vKiLLBoTv well, if there is a massive ridge it sounds like you sprayed a bit to much paint, haha. all you can do is clear coat it, it should smooth it out pretty well. there may be a bit of a ridge still, but when your using the controller your not even going to notice. make sure you get the right clear coat tho, preferable the krylon fusion clear
@TheSmurkey Well I don't see how they would look horrible... Maybe your technique is just wierd, when your doing this it should all be fluid motions, no stoping in the middle of a curve. And they don't necissariky need to be smooths, you could do jagged stripes to, that would actually look pretty awesome
@ledzep245 yep, but make sure before you start painting on the red coat that you clean your controller very well. i like to wash mine in warm water with dish soap first, and then rub everything down with a cotten swab and rubbing alcohol, maybe i will do a vid on it later on
it doesn't have to be blue tape, it just needs to be painters tape (wich is most commonly blue) and yes, once your all done taping it off you spray paint, but you need to have the correct spray paint
my controllers were white to, just because your controller is white doesn't mean it has to stay white...
but to answere your question its all up to you. you could do a zebra if you wanted, or anything else for that matter. look around at what other people have made to give yourself an idea.
@paulman64 once your done with your color coats you need to give it a good clear coat, be carful what you use tho, some clear coats might crack the paint you have allready applied. Try and get a hold of an acrylic lacquer, do not use an enamel. Make sure that coat everything on the controller, if you miss any spots they may chip off.
gonna have to do the same thing as the dude that wanted to know how to put MLG on his controller. your gonna need a real steady hand to, lol. i also beleive there are places you can go to make stensils if you want to go that route to.
i would print out the mlg logo on paper and then cut out the letters very carefully and then take the letters and use scotch tape to tape them onto the blue painters tape you have layed out on glace and just trace it with your knife. i will try it myself when i get some time but that could take a bit, so try that and let me know if it works
when you buy an xbox controller it has triggers on it right?? well when you take the controller apart you detach the triggers from the circut board. the LB RB is even more simpler, thats just one piece and it isn't connected to the circut board. i wasn't saying when you buy a controller you get a baggy with extra triggers and buttons, i was just saying use the ones that are on your controller.
you buy paint masks

1, what spray paint were you using? 2, did you get the sticker down on the controller good?
i cant see why paint would "blend" threw painters tape.... especially if it was expensive... (which it didn't need to be)
