  • Nuendo has had clip gain for a long time. Protools is so far behind Nuendo.

  • What REALLY pisses me off about Avid is the cost of their upgrades. I bought PT9 about 5 months before PT10 was announced. Now, I have to pay $300 to upgrade! That's more than half the price I paid for PT9! I will forgo the clip gain and new plug ins.

  • @Michael55443 Torrent=Free

  • @GoGecko631 Yeah, but I never use pirated software. It's just how I am.

  • I laughed out loud at the clip gain part. I guess I've been used to having it in my "non professional" setup for about a decade!

  • Logic is better.

  • I would love to demo Pro Tools, but I'm not par with the concept of "paying 40 bucks to demo something and not having my money back if I don't buy it."

Those iLok things just force me to hold my urge to murder someone... Nice job Avid. Deacdes to provide a demo and a shot in the feet in the first try!

  • I wouldn't mind owning this new tool in conjunction with vocoloid miku, NI's apple studio drums, that fancy guitar vst, real strat, ( something like that at the trade show,) and a few more things, I am more familiar with like harmony assistant8, FL9, and so on. Only problem, I'd need a new laptop, a usb mike like M-1 or Behringer's, a new 12 string ect..or else I just will have my RAM freeze up and spend half my time, waiting 4 renders and windows crash reports, ect I think I need 16gigs4 this..

  • lol 32bit... another 1000dB of gain. What the sound engineer :-]

  • 47 people dont understand protools 10

  • 1. who has enough money to pay for this kinda thing?

    2. you dont need it

    3. this is why todays music is so boring and overconstructed

    4. if you have good music to play then you could record with a 4 track and it would still be good music

    5. FUCK ALL YOU NEW AGE MILLIONARE PROTOOL MOTHERFUCKERS!!!

  • @andrew19vato Answers:

1 People who do this for a living

2 No, YOU don't need it.

3 No, today's music often sucks because no one knows how to write songs anymore that last for over two weeks.

4 Yes it would, but it would take forever and not have the quality we are now capable of.

5 Your GPA must be just amazing lol

  • @oceantracks ahhh sorry if i opffended you, i was merely expressing my own personal dislike for pro tools lol whats GPA?

  • clip gain is so awesome, cubase had it first.

  • Wile protools guys get their updated software, I had it since the biggining with Studio one! Ha!

  • Haha avid the best.. these guys just love money. And I hope people choose a new "industry standard" soon before pro tools 11 comes out in 5 minutes with a cost of, let me guess, too much

  • 04:13 There are supposed to be two T's in committed.

  • avid knows well they are loosing to logic no disrespect but why dont they do a survey thumbs up for logic !!

  • i sense some hositlity here. why blaming avid for shit music producers? i mean, with avid they just sound like high tech shit... you don't have to buy them if you don't like them. plenty of music options here in the west...

  • Sorry LOGIC IS DA WAY 2 GO 4 Me !!

  • @YUNG247MUSIC Then why are you watching a Pro Tools video?

  • Well if your reading this AVID I'd like you to rewire like PRESONUS STUDIO ONE.. Thanks!!

  • Yes clip gain is way past due on pro tools i had that on magic studio back in 2000.. alot of things they consider is new is old and over due..

  • I think Adobe Audition 3.0 had clip gain.

  • @RedOrangeSystem It Does and I use it to Master every Track!

  • fake and gay avid. cant believe they consider themselves as the best .

  • too much blah blah blah and not enough demontration

  • @mtwoproductions i know XD its ridiculous i heard a lot about pro tools and decided to check it out but seems to be for movie editing not creating music lol

  • @curtgavin1 It's all about the sound YOU can produce, not the DAW. I made Hot music on an MTV Music generator back in the day... Properly Mixed, you can't deny it. Pro Tools is just the Standard industry DAW. It doesn't mean that they don't have a "Reason" or a "Cube Base" hiding on that same computer. The Industry endorses it ... not because they are the best. Buy all of the WAVES audio plugins and load them on Fl Studio, then tell me different. An SSL mixer makes any DAW sound marvelous!

  • alot of good points made here as to why music sounds like shit, but i agree it is NOT the DAW. keep in mind that todays world, with record companies going in the tank and people stealing music everywhere, the mixing and mastering budgets for albums have been cut DRAMATICALLY and have instead been steered toward touring and merch, things that actually create profit. IF YOU WANT MUSIC TO SOUND BETTER IN THE FUTURE STOP STEALING IT

  • So funny, Cubase has clipgain and instant fades since like 10 years, and now it´s big new thing :-)

  • @mtwoproductions Yes, but Cubase is made for MIDI, mores than Tools, Hence why it's hyped over more on PT10 ;)

  • 0:37 It's a sad life when nothing excites one more than when a new version of a piece of software is released...

  • I'm glad pro tools is finally trying to catch up. Clip automation is awesome. I've been doing it for years in cubase. 32 bit float is awesome too. Been using it for years in cubase as well. Keep working hard pro tools maybe one day you guy's will finally catch up with the rest of the world.

  • @987654bc You won't see major films mixed in Cubase or Logic. PT is it's own thing, with an easy established workflow, fantastic automation, and features like VCA automation that most people don't even know their program doesn't have lol. And please...PT is not considering "clip gain" new....it is NEW to PT. All DAWS have things the others don't....you can't even hide tracks in Cubase for heaven's sake or move channels around in Logic's mixer. PT has had THAT forever.

  • Funny to see Tony on the video.

  • @thebigvahjayjays But you do realize it's 300+ tracks per feature length movie session? I mean what did you expect? That they will use 16 mono tracks and trigger samples from drumrack? You must have no idea how complicated scoring a movie is.

@2009korte Yeah. If you can do a complete film score with 2 drums, 3 guitars, bass and a synth then good luck...

I mean I agree, they exaggerate a bit, and it's not THAT great, but face it, it IS industry standard now, whether you like it or not.

  • this should've been a Pro Tools 9 update not a whole new version of Pro Tools. they're hardly even catching up to ANY DAW yet calling themselves the best..Who are you kidding Avid?

  • @CashbyProduction I agree that this should have been PT9.5 or something. But they are still the best pro solution out there, much as I hate their pricing. Working with audio and mixing in PT is simply the best. The others are better for midi production, but that will race will start tightening up in PT11.

  • Pro Tools 10. A gigantic leap in non working software, constant headaches, 10 hrs of troubleshooting for every 10 seconds of productivity, feeling ripped off every time you sit down to try to make music with their total shit products. Worst company ever of all time ever.

  • @ShredGuitarAcademy ...that's amazing, most of the pros I know love PT10 and are not having those problems. I know I haven't had them.

  • @oceantracks I tried unsuccessfully for years to get Pro Tools to work for more than 10 minutes at a time on a PC without major glitches requiring hours of troubleshooting just to get 5 minutes of productivity. I have now spent about $5000 on a MacBook Pro, Eleven Rack, Apogee Duet 2, and an upgrade to Pro Tools 9 (Don't feel like wasting another $500 on 10) the Lemon Rack is currently on it's way back to Digidesign. I'd say thankfully I have the Apogee but I can't run a ..cont...

  • @oceantracks cont...guitar signal through it for more than 5 minutes without it suddenly turning into the most grating digitally distorted sound Ive ever heard. That goes away if I restart everything but it tends to make it a tad on the unproductive side to have to do that every 5 minutes. No toll-free number. I have to pay digidesign if I want there help making their total bullshit software run. I have never ever ever had 1/1000 the issues with any other software in my life. cont..

  • @oceantracks Cont... The only thing reliable about Digi products in my opinion is that they reliably never work.

  • @ShredGuitarAcademy Then you should spend some time finding out what may causing errors in your system. Do you seriously think feature film studios recording 100 piece orchestras would depend on a system that didn't work? It would be out of there in five minutes.

  • I wonder of any of these guys play guitar..or anything....

  • what's up with the long comments?

  • Wow, Track automation and changing gain structure of wave forms? Studio One that I use was doing that in version 1.0. And I love how you just jumped into the native DAW game and already call yourself the "Best." Avid, I absolutely LOVE your consoles, but don't kid yourself. I cannot afford you. You are waaaaaayyyyy to out of my league if I need to get some dedicated HD stuff.

Granted, you guys do amazing things with midi routing and have convenced me with Venue. Can't complain on that...

  • Does the built-in Sibelious score editor allow users to print out the sheet music? I am planning on purchasing the student edition of Pro Tools 10 soon but I need to be able to print the sheet music. I currently do not own Sibelious or any other notation software and was wondering if I could just use the built-in score editor in Pro Tools 10.

  • Also daws have nothing to do with why music sounds like shit. Digital recording was originally made to aid in making better quality music. Instead artists are doing less musically, using plugins as crutches. The problem is people who actually buy and listen to the music. People keep making crap music it because there is a demand for it. If there was no more demand for it, they would stop making it. Just look at the Axis of Awesome, 40 number 1 songs, same 4 chords. Society is oblivious.

  • I honestly have used almost every single daw out there at one point including Cool Edit Pro, and others most people didn't know existed. I think Pro Tools 10 is actually very useful for midi now. I was a Logic 8 user mostly and loved everything about it but is no longer supported on Lion and Logic 9 is VERY buggy. Truth is every daw has slightly different features with different advantages and Pro Tools 10 worked perfect as a replacement for Logic. But It really isn't for everyone though.

  • The "major facilities" in the world are all going tits up, just like the greedy record companies. it is the independents and small studios that rule now. I predict Pro tools will not bed here as a major player in 5-10 years. Most other DAW software blows it away already in features quality of sound price and customer support. AVID RIP.

  • @anniedogmine The major records are still mixed on PT, as are virtually all films. That isn't going to go away because the HD systems are still the most dependable systems on the planet. Also, try getting customer support from Apple, Mark of the Unicorn, or Steinberg sometime. And I know you haven't heard the new AVID hardware or you would never make such as silly statement about their sound. They are as good as anything out there, killer sounding.

  • @oceantracks Well, "anything out there" won't charge you a grand for a update.

  • All hype. Much better feature rich software available these days. Hardware has been bested for at least 5 years. Resting on past glories. Just because you were one of the first does not mean you are the best solution. Over priced for features and quality. rely on lazy engineers not willing to change DAWS

  • Clip Gain? I think I've seen that before, I was watching some guy doing a mix, I think he was using Sony Vegas, that was 6 years ago...

  • 110% ok PRO TOOLS 10 I M VIREY HAPPY....

  • It is true that different DAW's sound better or worse with different equipment. u just have to experiment. I've used Sony acid pro because the workflow in that DAW is extremely fast for me. But I've also noticed that reaper and pro tools received better quality in my audio.

  • For music, yes that many tracks aren't necessary, but this is movie sound effects and stuff so it's a bit different.

Pro Tools is still overrated as fuck though.

  • the less trackcount i use the more powerful/clearer my music gets.

    2 drums, 3 guitars, 1 bass, 2 synths - adios

  • Do you still need audio hardware attached to your computer to run Pro Tools 10? I'm not a musician- just a film/video editor- and I just need to use Pro Tools to send my MC timelines. Can you do true round tripping between Media Composer and Pro Tools like FCP and STP or Premiere and Audition?

  • okay let me sum this up protools is behind the feats they just with others daws been had it! and the only thing good is the daw eq curv when you export so just do your work in other programs and export in protools so you have that summing sound on a song...and they charge allot for old ass feats ahhahah yea right! I aint buying it

  • OMG Are these top engineers so ignorant? the volume rise and 32bit float has been in Cubase for the past 4 years. Is this a JOKE?

  • ......FORTY!

  • my dream is to become an audio engineer. right now i am going to college for computers, if i wanted to get started engineering, what should i start, what should I start doing?

  • @bderonck You should start learning any DAW you can get your hands on, so you can understand the concept of audio, how to manipulate it, and begin understanding tools of the trade (ie: Effects like compression, delay and reverberation). Every DAW has similarities, therefore skills will be interchangeable. Likewise for the functions of each of the effects.

  • Hey Avid , How do you Make a Feedback Loop in Pro tools ???,

because when i try to add FX it mutes the sound ,

is this why digidesign sold pro tools?

  • Damn who needs 300 tracks to make music (talking about over kill)

  • literally

  • SO CAN YOU USE THE TDM PLUGINS WITHOUT THE TDM SYSTEM??

  • no big news here. This is will not help anyone making music.

the only one that benefits is George Lucas and his sound trolls.

MUSIC IS MADE BY PEOPLE NOT D.A.W.'S

and yes this is why music sucks today. If any one uses 300 tracks making music they should be shot.

  • @thebigvahjayjays

So besides a great chear leading video WHAT is actually better or new here? Clip gain. Yawnnnnnnn....

  • @thebigvahjayjays AGREED

  • @thebigvahjayjays I could easily see why a film would require 300 tracks. But off course if one is working only with karaoke instrumentals, he won't see the use of 300 tracks.

  • @thebigvahjayjays its not just for music. its used in post production as well. hence the necessity for mass amounts of tracks

  • @thebigvahjayjays congratulations for missing the point by miles! 300 tracks is not for the music but effects as the guy said. In movies there usually is no actual sound from the set. Every sound you hear need to be placed in the stereo image respectively and music needs to be faded and sometimes same piece needs to be have different mixes in the same film. The 300 tracks give you flexibility for doing all this and a symphonic orchestra with individual mics is 100 tracks alone.

  • @thebigvahjayjays 300 tracks for a movie, dumbass

  • @thebigvahjayjays i think he was talking about a video project, i think 300 tracks seems pretty normal for that

  • now i know why todays music sounds shit

  • @2009korte look I know a lot of people feel the same, but this is the first time I actually hear that. Listen to the 'ASOT' radioshow? It started being crap, thanks to this

  • I'm sorry but I'm starting to think protools is made by apple they run there businesses the same way promote old shit like it's new. Now that this technology is in our system were the most powerful daw in the world. When you hear that talk people there not. When its good you need no convincing.Just word to mouth. PS profools

  • Does anyone know what is the song played in the background at the beginning?

    Thx in advance ;)

  • Zweiner do u have the mic near speakers? Thats gonna give u feedback. Turn down the monitor & listen thru headphones when the mic is hot.

  • PLEASE HELP...I just bought a Mackie Onyx 1640i and I cant get signal into pro tools at all it wont let me even select an input or output. Is the mixer compatible with PT10?

  • I have a question. I have my mbox 2 hooked up with protools 10 to a brand new iMac. I have my sound preferences set to; Output - Digidesign mbox 2 USB. Input - the same. Now, for some reason when I record enable a track I get major feedback from my microphone on my computer. WTF! Please help!

  • no wonder all these famous people got awesome beats, freakin Jesus makes em.

  • Compared to Cubase 6, Pro Tools looks 10 years behind.

  • Alle u do is:"Input sound people." You react like it's a beyond horizonism?

  • i disagree

  • 2:25 would you need the ilok for everycomputer or could you network that ilok too? or do you not have an ilok with hdx?

  • the best pro tools system in the world doesn´t help if one can´t manage to create a constantly lip- sync youtube video ;)

but wait, wow! clip gain... congratulations! the wheel has just been re- invented! thanks to another expensive upgrade with hyped features that are included in most of the other daws out there...

  • anyone know why HDX is better than native?

  • To expensive. Stay on my own system. Nobody need this in a fucking mp3 age.

and all old systems are good enough. I am very pissed and will never buy a protools system again.

  • You must be kidding me!!!! Protools is finally trying to catch up to the Sonars and Logics of the world. If it wasn't for some of the great HARDWARE that company makes the PT's software would fade away. 32 bit?? old new...ease of use? old news. Only die hard PT users who have never used any other DAW are going gaga over this. The guys in this video almost seemed relieved that PT's is becoming less of a pain in the ass to use...keep it real

  • is Pro Tools 10 out already ?

  • Hummm...? Using a Wacom Tablet? Sound like a good idea.

  • The background music sounds exactly like a 8 bit Amiga music from 1991!

  • hmm. that intro song sounds like something you could easily make in ableton live

  • I stopped using pro-tools with this release. I had just bought pro-tools 9, then this came out, with AVID asking for another $300 for the upgrade to PT10. Instead of PT, I bought Cubase 6, which is 64-bit (so it can address much more RAM), it has much better multi-processor support (I can run way more plug-ins at super low latency), and it has all of the features I had hoped PT would implement in this release (track freeze, for example). There is no way I'm going back to PT now !

  • I just used the PT 110 Plug-in Promo and I don't know how to download Hyrbrid. Where do I go to download hybrid 1.6 using the PT 110 Plug-in Promo?

  • Good job avid.....adding a lot of things that cubase and logic have had for years.........keep on the slow progress.....PT doesn't sound better just different..:-)

  • @andersveinholt EXACTLY!!!

  • @andersveinholt Yeah maybe you want to try moving a channel around in the mixer in Logic...you know...like PT has been able to do for years...oh wait...you can't, that's right.

Or maybe HIDE a track in Cubase....oh wait....you can't...that's right .....don't you understand all DAWS have things the others ones don't?

  • greatttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOWWWWWWWWW

  • Is there Pro Tools for Windows Xp ???

  • @zlacanplavekose The last version of Pro Tools for Windows XP was 8.0.5 for LE, 8.0.4 for M-Powered & Pro Tools 8.1.1 for HD systems. As such, none of the features introduced in Pro Tools 9 or later will be present, which also means you can only use Pro Tools on Windows XP with certain Audio Interfaces (depending on if you're using Pro Tools HD, LE or M-Powered). - More info can be found by searching The Avid Knowledgebase for Article Number 352437 - hope this helps (if not, hopefully AVID can)!

  • @portessa Thanx

  • Yawn

  • 24 to 32bit! pointless. please stop perpetuating these audio myths please please! no one need 192khz ever!!! ever!!!!

  • @alexgowers you are wrong¡, the higher sample rates, it's better for the plug ins processing¡.

  • "best sounding"

    hilarious.

  • At 0:13 "I know that guy!" I went to school with him! So cool to see Shebib in a video such as this! Good on ya, bro! Been playin' a big game back then and playin' huge now! Well deserved.

  • Comment removed

  • @IAmAFugitiveOnTheRun no fucking way! seriously???

  • @DreadHeadStoner Yes. Seriously. I had no idea he was up in the game this much. 2003 back in Toronto was the precursor to where he is now. Congrats to him!

  • woooooooooow

  • real time fades, clip editing and such things ...... hmm, as i said: FAIRLIGHT, for instance, had that already more than a decade ago. and speaking of processing power and workflow in a post pro environment: PT is cool and great so far, but - from a technical and a workflow-standpoint - not the most powerful and best solution. nevertheless, respect to AVID to make old technologies look brand new. :-) they are masters on that!

  • I just can`t help it: again and again AVID pushes their product out with a very aggressive marketing campaign, although their technology is not new and exciting at all - well, maybe it is for all-time-pro-tools-users, who do not take a look on other manufacturers, such as FAIRLIGHT from australia, which already provided such features a few years ago. i mean PT is an industry-standard, there´s no doubt about it, but i just don´t find AVID´s latest "baby" as amazing as they say. anyway... :-)

  • How about you write a Lion patch for the ProTools 8 I bought 2 months ago?!

  • Comment removed

  • I like ProTools but I love Cubase 6. ProTools is the industry standard but overseas ...nope. Now Cubase 6 already had that clip control. I got ProTools 9. The audio signal in ProTools is better hands down. Cubase has a good audio now waaaaaay better than they did back in the 90s. When Cubase started to base their system off of Nuendo ($1100+) and came out with Vari-Audio (like Melodyne) I was sold. If ProTools come out with their own Melodyne built into their software....it's good-bye Cubase. O

  • whats better cubase or pro tools someone reply

  • @JCRecords95 I Got cubase n iwant know the same thing... But I Have to say cubase is cool... I Dont see how it's not the "industry" standard... But

  • @DreadHeadStoner yeah i have cubase 5 right now and like it but i hear that pro tools is better but i dont know i think im just gonna stay with cubase 5

  • @JCRecords95 i kno i always hear the same thing... But everytime i ask someone how its better they just say "its industry stantard"... Most of the things they advertising here is on C6. But i stilll want pro tools to see what the hype is about tho..

  • I'm now ready after a year or two of producing my own music to lay down stupid amounts of money I have saved up on some audio production software.

I've been using Cubase and i'm used to it and i'm seriously thinking about getting Cubase 6, the only other contender is Pro Tools, I can't try it....there is no trial , no demo.....so am I supposed to choose based on marketing?

No i'm going to go with what I know, Cubase. :/

  • 40: "Clip automation, the volume automation on the clips is mindblowing, its going to save me hours and hours on editing." - Welcome to Nuendo, 7 years ago. You are toting this as a break through? I'll go back to literally saving hours and hours with my Part Editor, which somehow you haven't managed to steal yet.

  • Pro tools is starting to catch up now. I should be happy when version 12 comes out

  • Noah 40 promoted this program?? This MUST BE a very efficient program. I'm getting it, when does it come out?

  • i found a place that sold me 8 and i get a free upgrade to 10

  • @yerkmantm where?

  • @DerrickWayneJrTV well its just a store here in colorado but its called wind over the earth.... if i where you i would just ask who ever you want to buy it from

  • @yerkmantm oh i got 8 from Guitar Center like a month before 9 came out....no upgrade

  • so how long will it be before hdx is useless because of pcie going away...

  • Comment removed

  • NOAH 40 SHEBIB! love you

  • IT is NOT Thinking with you or us.

  • I just went onto AIR User's Blog and found their article "We Hoped For A Price Cut Instead Avid Cut Jobs." Yeah. Needless to say, I' don't see myself supporting Avid in the neat future.

  • I'll stick to Logic 9.

  • To this day I still haven't gotten a good explanation for why I NEED Pro Tools for any other reason than "all the studios use it".

"It SOUNDS better" . . .Umm, I would think that has more to do with my interface's A/D converters and my signal chain than my DAW. And the features they introduce as "cutting edge" are incredibly dated--gives me no reason to believe that the sound engine is "just better". Sounds like when someone told me I couldn't make beats without an MPC.

  • @jonQuest82 I use studio one and I bet I have a better workflow than with pro tools.

And workflow is the only thing that counts nowadays(every sequencer has the same good quality)

  • @jonQuest82

You don't need Pro Tools unless you're going to be an audio engineer in a professional studio. Otherwise, it's total overkill.

  • @TheShockMaster -- Touche.

  • WOW if Pro Tools 10 was any better it would be REAPER 4.10!!!! LOL. A fool and his money are soon parted...

  • Ableton Live has an equally good clip gain system which was in almost more than 2 years ago... PT just looks much more fancier i guess?

  • This software is dope.

  • go 40 go

  • I just need that clip gain...fuck.

  • Hey 40 if by any you chance see my comment please check out my channel. i don't know how to put words together to show my admiration and appreciation for how you changed the face of hiphop music alongside drake.

  • im just here cuz of 40

  • Octobers Very Own brought me here.

  • I really like MIXING and Pro Tools, but I've seen pretty similar (if not exact) features like these in other DAWs. Personally, I was looking forward to more MIDI support so I could COMPOSE and MIX in the same DAW. These are great features, but they've been around in one form or another.

  • Everyone is talking about Cubase Nuendo Cakewalk and whatever inferior software but the guy said it in the first sentence..."It's really nice for us to have a platform that you can count on being used in every major facility in the world" Pro Tools is the industry standard it is more complex than other software. I wouldn't use anything else.

  • I just looked it up: The CEO of AVID, Gary, made 882 thousand dollars in salary in 2009. In addition to that, hwe made 322 thousand in other compensation. He also makes 85K a year as compensation as a director at Novell, and 92k as adirecutro at Vocus. There is NO WAY I will give this company another cent. Protools 10 should have been and upgrade, period.

  • This is the last straw, AVID! I just got Pro-tools 9, and it sucks! There isn't even any free user support ! You have to pay now !!! Yes, pay to talk with a technician about why pro-tools hardly works. I've been using protools for years, but it keeps getting worse. Protools 9 has terrible multi-processor support and is terribly buggy. Now they want $300 more for pro-tools 10? I'm done with Protools forever.

  • they did a great job on the marketing aspect!

for a second i thought pro tools wasn't over hyped and inferior to other daws
