So many commentors have failed to recognize the link between the mumming plays and pantomime which i beleive it gave rise to. If you look at the date ( yule ) or Christmas time , and the central players ... the jolly man/ woman or pantomime dame an the hobby horse used in panto !

@twinsinoveralls This is not actually representative of Mummers in Ireland but a mixture of Strawboys and Mummers and other unrelated material.
