  • jasonricci are u left handed?

  • w3w its difficult....X_^

  • Thank you for this.

  • Hey there, I'm really interested in learning this awesome instrument, but it looks like I'm stuck with two ancient 48 hole harmonicas, one octave-tuned, one tremolo. I'd go out and buy the blues harp portrayed here, but I'd really prefer learning on these giant family jewels.

From tinkering about with your videos the only hindrance I've found is cupping the beast (it's as long as my entire hand) and tongue-blocking is impossible. So, are your vids fit for my instrument?

  • real useful videos bro, all of em. ty vm :)

  • mmkay :D kekeke nice videos ! tnx a lot

  • I've been trying to figure out good cupping technique for quite some time now, buut I have really small hands and I can't seem to be able to get all the holes....

  • You can get it just lay your hands like me, It might take a while for something that seems uncomfortable to feel the opposite but you'll get it.

  • Thanks JR: all of your stuff is an inspiration!!! I'm left handed and I hold the harp in my right hand and cup with my left. I've been doing this for so long I can't now change. Should this present any real problems to me in terms of restricting wah-wahs on the low notes? Thanks, Mark (UK)

  • Man, Butterfield, Sonny Terry, Bobby Rush, William Clarke and many others were alright you should be too.

  • @hillspring13 wha wha what!? Weird...just getting into the harp and I'm right handed and hold the harmonica with my right hand? Am I doing it like a lefty? I couldn't imagine doing it with the harmonica in my left hand. That would just feel awkward!

  • bender

  • did I hear right butterfield held the harp unside down like sonny terry

  • you say 'mmmmkay' like mr mackay :D. anyways, incredible performance dude!!!

  • Yes! I use to...then I saw this video and that was the reason It never came out for sale...and I gave it away for free here. I then began the arduous task of removing the MmmKay from my vocabulary. You will not see it much if at all in any of my other more recent videos. This was also about four years ago I think...

  • Hey Buddy. Thank you for you tips. So...I am thinking of buying one nice and reasonable blues harmonica. Which one would you recommend me??? Thank;s. Alex from Brasil.

  • Great video, even the "mmmmkay" at 38 :)

Seriously, thanks for all of your advice - it´s priceless.

  • Brilliant, I wasn't getting proper wah and vibrato until I saw this.

  • No side vents in the Golden Melodies back then?

Oh yeah, what key harp was that? ;)

  • That was very helpful! Grazie!

  • Is there any reason for holding the harp in the left hand ?

All seem to instruct that way, but it doesn't feel right for me . I feels better in my right hand. Any reason why I shouldn't use my right ?

    Thanks

  • It does help to keep the low end compressed as the low notes are on the left assuming you hold the right side up....if you do hold it with the other hand you could play it upside down...just kidding I'm sure you'll be fine...it might be tough for you to get a good seal but i bet there's some great maybe famous players out there just like you.
