  • Is it just me or does Tom Peloso look a lot like Toby from the Office? And are the members of Modest Mouse extremely difficult to keep straight?

  • Grew up outside seattle.went to my 1st modest mouse show in 1999.maybe 75 people there. And even then Isaac was an awesome musician.he has had such a wide range of styles to his music over the years. And that is what makes them truely great.Issac alone is a show by himself.Hate on them all you want. That just means that i wont have to see you stupid haters at there shows. They are not 1 of those bands that is gonna pump out 5 albums that all sound the same like this crap now-a-days.M.M. for ever

  • If you're a bass player go figure out the tabs to this song, it's a blast to play.

  • @TheWorldofAaron Heck yes.

  • giraffe pimp, although you could be right, dont make assumptions. we're not in modest mouse.

  • Love the passion and the fact Brock never seems to do half-assed performances like plenty of the diva's do these days.

  • @giraffepimp Are you kidding? Modest Mouse live used to be a gamble of a drunken mess of shit, or an amazing performance like this. He finally realized that people payed to see a show, not a drunken mess, and now tries to perform normally.

  • @shizzzbiscuit I was referring to contemporary shows too, not the period when they were too ****** on drugs to care.

  • haha I looked up a tab for this song and for the bending part it said *demolish the strings, they mustve watched this vid lol

  • Those audience members have seem to have a short attention span. I think they might be high.

  • @miamifootbal maybe but if they were theyd probably be staring and drooling, lost in the trippy noise lol

  • that guitar is fucking amazing... thats really all i can say

  • R u kidding me? So sick! I would give up a whole lot to see them live. Killer.

  • Every time I hear a new Modest Mouse song thats been recorded. I think to myself 'There's no way they can play that well live', Every time I am wrong

  • Holy shit, it's so badass when Isaac starts playing his.

  • 3:18 orgasm

  • What guitar is Isaac using, Please respond

  • @rabbitofterror its a custom made guitar by wicks, costs about £4000, custom bridge and pickups ect.

  • makes the guitar sound like a fucken seal

  • bukan main livenya..

  • I know I was a scout, I should've found a way out "tho" everyone could find a way out.

  • the sickest guitar i've ever seen. look at that body. dead sexy. good job mr brock

  • the build up during the bridge is so good

  • if issac had said "hello boys and girls, this next song is about a whale. no! it's a song about being happy, it's the happy happy joy joy song." and played the intro to the happy happy joy joy song i wold have died laughing

  • People who say newer Modest Mouse sucks obviously haven't heard this, Ocean Breathes Salty, or Spitting Venom.

  • @MistaGrieves or The Moon and Antarctica

  • @TrajektorieLogik Eh, I always considered M&A to be part of the old Modest Mouse. I guess it depends on whether you think of new as major label or as indie pop. I see it as the latter.

    M&A is awesome though

  • I LOVE when artists put this much energy into their performances. It's absolutely beautiful <3

  • Well, I do prefer the older Modest Mouse stuff to the newer stuff. Albums like Building Nothing out of Something (which is a rarities album nonethless), Interstate 8 and The Lonesome Crowded West absolutely blow me away. There is definitely a difference in their newer sound from their older sound. I just think it was them evolving, though. I don't hate their newer stuff, I listen to it still, and I don't complain. I just, overall, prefer many of their older albums. It doesn't make me arrogant.

  • @MassHero Nah it doens't make you arrogant, they definitely were at their very best back in the 90's, but I think they're such a good band that even when they change it up they still can make some pretty great music. That being said, We Were Dead had a lot of pretty weak songs on it haha but I pretty much love all of their other albums.

  • @cKunke2 Well said.

  • The amount of instruments on that stage :L

  • That blew my mind all over my face.

  • Don't you hate when people say "OLD MODEST MOUSE IS BETTER, NEW MODEST MOUSE IS GAY AND I LIKE OLD BLA BLA BLA....." I mean yeah it's their opinion and all but fuck, ANY modest mouse is good to me and when I discover an old song... it's new to me. So people stop dividing the band into two when it's just simply MODEST MOUSE.

  • @hbwcrackwhore So nice to hear, the first song i heard from Modest Mouse was Float On since it was a radio hit. But years later I bought Long Drive and loved it then I bought all their CD's alternating from old to new each time so i listened to old and new in a row and it is all just simply wonderful Modest Mouse music. They can do no wrong

  • @JcGrubbsFilms I agree they can do no wrong and yeah Float on was the first song I heard too but then I quickly discovered The Moon and Antarctica, The Lonesome Crowded West(favorite) Long drive it's all just wonderful music. You should definitely listen to the songs "Head South" and "Edit the Sad Parts" by Modest mouse if you haven't already heard 'em... amazing instrumentals.. and vocals of course.

  • @hbwcrackwhore Y'know what's funny about that? There's two types of Modest Mouse fans; Us types who think everything Modest Mouse makes is godly, and there's those that only like the older stuff.

I have yet to find one Modest Mouse fan who only likes the new stuff and bashes on the old stuff.

  • @NeptuneMS385 actually i prefer the newer stuff. could be the quality of the old records being a bit of a turnoff, but good news and we were dead were both phenomenal albums all around. i didnt think as albums, the older shit was as good. see? now you've found someone :)

  • @NeptuneMS385 Eh, some people complain about the old music being kind of rough sounding. But those people can get on deeez nuuutz.

  • @TheSpoonRooster Is it bad that I kinda like the bad quality sounding ones that were never released, like Nothing New...? 'Cuz that kinda pulls me in..

  • @NeptuneMS385 It is an entirely natural reaction to anything made by Isaac Brock.

  • @hbwcrackwhore meh, it's good when they express their opinions in a way that doesn't claim a part of them yo be gay beyond their own personal opinion. I personally do think old modest mouse is much better, but i'm not going to dislike their newer stuff because it's new, because alot of it is actually still really good. Ocean breathes salty, for example, is an awesome song.

  • @hbwcrackwhore pretty sure people who like diffiernt era's of modest mouse and dislike other era's of modest mouse are just posers

  • i love how he is so into it....how could he not be...awesome song by an awesome band.

  • Fuck Prozac! Give us Isaac!

  • @ferret12 Oh my GOD you are right. Isaac is a fucking genius!

  • Hearing this reminds me of watching them play Tundra/Desert live in one of their 90's videos. Isaac put an asston of energy into this, it's insane.

Who ever says Isaac lost his touch over the years and that Modest Mouse isn't as great as it used to be is very, very mistaken.

  • @MrFreddychiva Thank YOU!

  • Where can i get Eric's hat?!?!

  • @mosaphat

filson (dot) com it's the Tin Cloth Wildfowl Hat. Filson makes some nice stuff

  • @beaverbrookroad Eric is wearing a Stormy Kromer. Isaac is the one that usually wears the Filson wildfowl.

  • i spy Pat Graham

  • Sorry to nitpick at a superb performance of a modern masterpiece, but does anyone else wish the guitars and drums were just a little higher in the mix? Not much, maybe 15% louder. The bass is nice and clear, however, which I totally dig on; usually when I see a live band the bass turns to unrecognizable mush.

  • @LosSkeltosMusic I completely agree. The unique guitar sound is what makes this song so awesome. I'd give the drums 15% and 25% for guitar.

  • @OvertheHills821 Forgettting big part. Is eric Judy, bass is awsome especially in this song.

  • one of eric's best

  • one person couldn't find a way out

  • Comment removed

  • amazing

  • can any one tell me what style guitar isaac is playing? it looks well lush

  • @metal1man15 its a custom wicks guitar, you can go to their website and go into gallerys and its there

  • @mikemedina72g thanks, i just did that.. but $3500? fucking hell.

  • @metal1man15 prob was 1500 back when he got it

  • oh i came. come to n.z please i beg of you pleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase

  • the bass in this song is just so awesome

  • I want to see them live so bad.

  • @mjturner1 They are amazing live! So much energy!

  • 1 dislike!!!..... someone get me a hammer and a sword

  • @ProjectedIdea it's because jrcsgtpeppers said something. Most likely not intentional, but just to be funny, which turns out to not be so funny. haha

  • @ProjectedIdea OH NO!!! I MISSED THE LIKE BUTTON!!! or thats what the poor sap who didlike this should caome forward and say.

  • i see a sunset over red dirt and a couple native americans going to war or something when i listen to this. i guess i'm stoned.

  • 0 dislikes

    thats how it should stay

    this song is fucking awesome!

  • fuck yeah modest mouse! fuck yes

  • how is he doing that? i can't find the tremolo.

  • They saved the best song for last (excluding the encore) last night. This song is incredible live

  • truly amazing.

  • i just saw this song live LAST NIGHT in kc. it was amazing. prolly my favorite song of the whole set. soooo much energy. modest mouse killed it. definately going to have to go see them again.

  • one of the best guitar solos of all time in my opinion, so much emotion

  • @merrsshee Yeah, angry angry angry angry angry lol

  • what the fuck i was here and i never seen this i got tix to this year too wtf

  • What we have here is possibly one of the best ways to convey imagery in music with very few words and mind-blowingly atmospheric sound

I'm seeing them in a few weeks - July 23, Brooklyn.

I want to hear this song live again.

  • the weird is wonderful

  • The Whale Song is one of many things that can be used against people who say that Modest Mouse is no longer Modest Mouse.

  • @TheSpoonRooster

    amen brother

  • best bass line

  • My mind is still blown from seeing this set live. If anyone knows of a good doctor that can unblow minds hook me up with a number.

  • also, for the most part, this song is actually quite easy to play. figured it out the other day.

  • This goes beyond words

  • Modest Mouse = Greatest of All Time

  • Thanks for the uploads, awesome to have on YT!

  • how the fuck can issac brock do it?? my friends dont really like modest mouse they're not really into this kinda grungy, punky sad sappy sucker music, but yet they will always tell me they're very catchy, alot of people think they're really catchy who dont listen to them and thats saying alot. all that means to me is isaac brock instead of being flashy and trying to get his guitar laid, lays down licks he feels through himself and his band, and it is HIS band. ever see them live??? DO IT

  • Isaac goes crazy at the end!!

  • this isn't even fair how good this is. save some talent for the rest of the world modest mouse

  • he uses the digitech whammy pedal thats why it goes up like 2 octives randomly and stuff

  • daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg, he's goin nutz!

  • Radiohead pisse me off. I don't know why, they make good songs, and work really hard at what they do. Just don't like it. Fuck. Pisses me off because most mm fans like radiohead so they are all "wtf is wrong with you? dont like radiohead wtf" and i'm all "go fuck yourself. Don't tell me what I should like" and whatnot. Idk

  • @Synd465 WTF DUDE YOU YOU DONT LIKE RADIOHEAD?

    blasphemy!!!!!!!!!

  • @Synd465 Yeah a lot of people say Radiohead is like a bummer. I happen to like that type of music but it's understandable that other people don't. If I'm hanging out with people Mouse is my number one choice for music. Radiohead isn't fun to listen to with people. Like at all haha

  • @AlbinoScout hahaha yeah it's embarrassing when fake plastic trees comes on shuffle while im in the car with friends

  • @AlbinoScout Only if your friends are into Radiohead. Then songs like High and Dry & Jigsaws Falling Into Place are good. :)

Idk

  • I was at this show live. Modest Mouse is the best band of all time.

  • Tom Peloso isn't playing guitar in this, no i meant the guy on the pale blue guitar

  • @Confusling Jim Fairchild, started touring with them when Johnny Marr left for the Cribs

  • Who is the other guitarist with the black hair, i haven't seen him play with the band before.

  • @Confusling Tom Pelonoso. He plays with them a fair bit.

  • why do they have two drummers?? That hecka bugs me....

But this is probably my favourite song in the whole world of favourite songs

  • i'm so devo that they'll prob never come to australia =(

  • Comment removed

  • Lol they're ridiculously out of tune. Great song, but the studio version is way better. Still my favorite song by them.

  • Lol, well the studio one has like 11 isaccs singing. He deos so many back up vocals of his own voice in studio, thats what makes it awsome.

  • he's pressing with the side of his palm on his recessed floating tremolo bar with every stroke where he does the bends.

  • cant stop singing to the guitars :-D

  • one good song

  • i dont see a whammy bar so how is he doing those sounds

  • @nomorenames6393 it looks like there's something on the guitar where he presses his palm near the bottom of the strings and stretches the strings giving a whammy effect. I do know his guitar is custom and he can do some crazy shit with it

  • @vyzhayt oh i see it, it is like a lip so instead of a whammy he just has a little metal lip on it that he can push with his palm, damn that is so cool

  • @nomorenames6393

    It's a floating trem without a bar.

  • ah, no bends?

  • @nedak

He does bends, but he uses his floating trem, too.

  • i'm not sure but i guess he does a lot of bending and he uses the whammy pedal..look at him at 4.18. before that moment he's moving around doing bending but after that he gets his foot on his pedalboard and that's when you can hear something very similar to the whammy pedal

  • bends

  • damn JaphyRyder63420 mine too..isac fucked it up

  • Isac was putting off so much energy in this song he just kicked a hole threw my fucking monitor!!!!

  • Lmao...

  • hahaha, Pat Graham @ 1:01

  • Eric might not be the greast bassist around. But, one hell of a bassit. Love is up strokes to make it sound alot better. If MM gets a new bassist A) wont be as good. (B) might not even listen to them again

  • isaac plays his crazy guitar in his own catergory. ive never heard anyone do it like he does. look what shredding did to the awful music of the eighties. its not about chops. its his wonderful style and songwriting that are what need to be discussed. not what yngvie tunes he cant play. come on now

  • I couldn't agree more!

  • Is Johnny playing the same as Issac?

  • I believe the guitar player is called jim fairchild? hes real good

  • what other bands was the guy in

  • i believe youre talking about Johnny marr from the smiths

  • no Johnny Marr isnt always touring with modest mouse, Jim Fairchild was in a band called "granddaddy" ill have to give them a listen

  • Marr quit to tour with The Cribs. Fairchild is the guitarist touring with them now, and in this video.

  • hmm no wonder he looked so young.. and here i was thinking i had seen johnny marr live :(

  • He hasn't quit, he's just touring with the Cribs. Then Back with Modest Mouse after :)

  • love it. Issac getting into it like no other

  • Brock is a savage beast.

    and a completely underrated guitarist.

  • hahahh, love modest mouse but no way is brock underrated. its a cool riff but not complicated, no mm songs are.

  • it isnt the technical difficulty of his music that makes him underrated. It is that he has developed a great, unique style of playing that isnt heard many other places. To learn a modest mouse song may be easy, to write one is not.

  • no doubt he's a songwriting genius. but as far as his guitar skills go i think he's unamiously pegged.

  • unamiously pegged?

sorry man, I legitimately don't know what you mean.

  • i dunno pretty much everyone knows hes no jimmy page, and that's just an analogy. don't come back and say that's not his type of music. he's a fucking genious and modest mouse is amazing love their older stuff way better with the exception of this song though. anyways isacc brock = great songwriter, average guitarist.

  • im glad hes underrated, i dont (every mm fan or ugly casanova fan) want him on the radio, exploited by douchy fucking dj's and soldier boy lovers or even worse, "reality loving" mtv dicks

  • Hahahah! I'll agree with you there, man.

  • I hear ya. kinda got pissed of at Dillinger Escape Plan. They got 2 of their songs from the new album on a few tv shows. I havent listen to the stuff with the new lead singer cause of that

  • I mean, imagine a world where Modest Mouse would tour with Lady Gaga.....makes my head hurt.

  • if they did that bye bye. Might listen to them. but not buy albums. This to me is a pretty big show for MM. but if they play with Lady GuyGuy i'd might consider them sell outs. dillenger escape plan is on my list to almost quit listening to cause 2 of their songs have been played on tv shows

  • oh man i saw them play this song in salt lake in september... it was amazing! the way they did it was 12 times more amazing then the album version. i always think about it...

  • MM is one of very few bands that deserve to be famous. They came a LONG way. After all of these years their music is still good.

  • the last two minutes of this video inspired me to live.

  • I just shat myself listening to this. Freaking Brilliant song.

  • I WAS SUPPOSE TO GO TO THISSS!!!

    :(

  • What a GREAT CLEAR video, This song just kicks so much ass, thanks

  • just herd this song last nite while getting high in my friends car.. shit is amazing

  • Wish there were more quality live videos of Modest Mouse. This is just brilliant.

  • I didn't even know you could play a guitar like that. only Isaac Brock could pull that off.

  • WOW!

  • My favorite kind of music, is the kind you can fuck up while you're playing it and it makes it better.

  • whal song official video is out!!! check the website to see where you can watch it...

  • Only a solo like that could come from Isaac Brock...thank you Isaac...mmm..

  • FInally, a decent live Modest Mouse video. Thank you to whoever posted this. I love this song (probably my 2nd favorite behind Spitting Venom) and the new album. I can't believe anyone can not like their new album (this song, Satellite Skin, and King Rat).

  • It creeps into my bones

  • wow, loved this one a lot, harkens back the Night on the Sun a bit for me, which is still one of my all time favorites.

  • the transitions at 2:25 and 3:57 are amazing

  • this is historic

  • Amazing.

  • wow. they all grew up so fast

  • thanks for uploading this is definitely one of the (or the) best song of the year!

  • love it at 3:58 when isaac starts freaking out!

  • no one gets into like him. no one.

  • thom yorke does. MM and Radiohead are my favorite bands. This is my favorite Mouse song in a long time by the way. Possibly back before The Moon & Antarctica. Possibly my favorite ever. It's amazing how he can turn a few notes into something like this. For me the tone of this song is like anxiety and desperation all in one. I feel like I've had this song in my head for my whole life and now I can finally listen to it. Not to be overly dramatic or anything.

  • I feel the same way!

  • Thank you for writing a novel, joking. i know how you feel i feel like this song touches me deeply for some reason the bends and everything have real emotion in them. its so beautiful

  • awesome comment :)

  • @sh0rty08 too bad Radiohead are shit.
