Um, she is his true gandmother. She is the mother of Barack Hussein Obama Sr.; Barack Obama's father. That is how one becomes a grandmother, in case you didn't know. He doesn't shun his mother either; she died of ovarian cancer many years ago. I'm not aware of any evidence that he shuns his surviving maternal grandmother.

Barack Obama never tries to claim he's 100% black, hasn't ignored his paternal family (if you were educated you'd know his father left him at age 2 to return to Kenya) and certainly gives credit to his entire family for where he is today. Probably she disliked it just because it was a deviation from the culture that she knows. Think how your mother would react if you wanted to marry a young woman from Kenya who came from a farm, instead of a white girl from your own suburban neighborhood. They would probably raise eyebrows at the least.
