Thank God we have land and grow our own vegetables and have laying hens. We are about to put up two greenhouses. That is really sad, people are trying to survive and prices on the biggest needs are going up and up.
I really hate going shopping lately, I usually will have at one store or another a retired elderly person who is in front of me deciding which of the items in the cart to leave cause they cant afford the few items in the cart. And its always important items, never want items like chips or icecream. On occasion well try to chip in so they can get an extra item but cant do it all the time :( Thanks for sharing.
Went to a family reunion in the West Indies. Let me just tell you that everyone pretty much shops at the farmer's markets. The prices in upscale grocery stores are astronomical!
Yes we should have always been taught to have supplies for minimum of 3 months, instead of living on a just in time bases. Actually prices aren't going up. The value of the dollar is beginning to reflect it's true worth. The money we have is backed by nothing more than a promise and a handshake. And other countries are getting tired of buying our worthless debt just to prop up the dollar.
It's a shame...if they didn't notice it before and have to notice it via the news - whereas folks like you and myself have been aware for awhile. All I know is that I am happy I am able to can and put up the three B's that cost the most: Butter/Beef/Bacon - and the rest of it I balance through. Great Share Lady!
@TheSheChef lol! I am cracking up cause I thought you were going to say the 3 B's were Beans, Bullet, and Bullion. lol! Yeah it is a shame folks just aint gone really wake up till they see those store shelves empty. Then it will be a panic. I like prepping cause it helps keep my stress down. I can watch stuff like this and not freak.
@Ejahi i think they are quietly panicking now they are just playing it off - i'm sure you see it as well - they look confused or frustrated while shopping at the grocery store!
Boxed food is more expensive! The less ingredients to your shopping items the cheaper they will be. Just a thought. I learned how to make my own candy today and I am going to do yougert as well soon
@nagaempress awsome. let me know how the yogurt turns out. The reason why the cost of beef effects everything is cause that effects not just cows but the farmers who sell the grains like corn, soy, and wheat. If the beef goes up so do the other basic staples of most our food industry.
@TheMommiefive That is awsome. Just start with a short term storage plan like 30 days, then 3 months, 6 months and so on. That way it wont get overwhelming. I am glad you are going to grow your own food as well. That is something I got to learn and do myself.
oh yeah. there r many reason why people should start getting used to prepping, storage, etc. diy saves so much money in the long run. thanks for the info.
Thanks for making aware of recent food increases.Summer time is great for growing vegetables which is around the corner.
