  • 2 people went down in flames.

  • Pretty good live version. Besides Dave Hope, do not forget that Kerry Livgren wrote everyone's part and, as Rich Williams once said, " I just play whatever Kerry writes.".

  • @staceyjamesm

Wow ....very cool reading that ....can you tell us any more of that type of information.

  • It's such a shame that there ever had to be a rift between Steve and Kerry- they were the perfect songwriting duo and had so much potential to write so much music together.

  • This from 2002 not 1996. This clip was from the CD and DVD of Device Voice Drum.

  • what year is this performance?

  • @leonakita

    From 2002

  • Always loved this band....Steve Walsh...you are amazing.

  • When Robby says "Here they come" sends shivers up my spine.

  • at 3:44 what does Robby whisper i wonder?

  • Robby whispers Here it comes just once!

  • @tannertehpianist

    Robby whispers "Icarus - Icarus"

  • this song still reminds me of early morning convoys in Afghanistan......"In the darkness I rise now before the dawn......"

  • @maxximumforce Wow...so true..this works for that as well. Godspeed.

  • Best live icarus II though the violin is low; but still excellent... Steinhardt's violin added a rustic feel to Kansas. Ragsdale is good but Robby gives the ship over the end of the world effect...

  • @ 3:58

    heavy as hell jam MEATWALL!!!!

  • Yeah, when I heard it, it automatically made me think of Dream Theater's Stream of Consciousness.

I really like this one, I need more prog rock bands...

  • Oh man. So do I. I first got into Dream Theater, then Rush, then Yes, and now I've started listening to Genesis, ELP and these guys. It's like this is the kind of music I've been looking for my whole life.

  • @anexistentialdilemma you are on the exact same track as I am. I can't get enough. Its funny though; I started heavy and have worked backward in sound. I think its because the heaveyness is not defined by how much gain is used.

  • Kerry can no longer play guitar. he lost use of his right hand. There's a testimonial by him on YT...it's sad- he thanks God for giving him the stroke....*my* God doesnt afflict people, but his must. Clogged artery/clot gives a stroke, not God. :(

  • Kerry has a deep faith in Christ. I would rather not limit his "God" to a good-time Charlie...no disrespect to anyone who disagrees...

  • They might be without Kerry forever.

    Kerry had a stroke.

  • meh. Steve sounds better than the 02 footage, but still a pale shadow of his 70's self. It's a good song, but the arrangement without Livgren and with the violin so low in the mix is very sparse. 70's Kansas rocks, nuff said.

  • This from the DVD?

  • Yep

  • Damn, I love this song.

  • I miss Kerry like a mother-fucker, but I'll still love Kansas till the day I die... And I loooooove this song!

  • Walshy is a different man! Different but nonetheless astounding.

  • Saw them do this song in Pittsburgh,Kerry was with the band.

  • I miss Steve's B3. He rigged up a bar on the front of it so he could do handstands on it. So cool.

  • I remember the Monolith concert which was my first in Tulsa at the Pavilion and Walsh did his hand stand. It was October 3, 1979 the day before the REO....

  • One of the greatest songs of all time!!!

  • I'm not a huge Kansas fan (I like them OK), but I saw them open for Yes on this tour and they absolutely rocked WAY harder than I expected. Great show...

  • Kansas is on the same league of Rush and ELP if you ask me, i like Yes better too, but the same thing happened here, i went to Kansas expecting just Dust In The Wind and Carry On Wayward Son-type songs, and they freaking blown me away, never expected they were this awesome!

  • Yeah man, Kansas is one of those bands with so much to discover besides the like, 2 popular songs. It's sweet. :D

  • Walsh's vocals are outstanding in the LPs Songs for America and Masque from Lonely Street to Icarus (born on the wings of Steel); Kansas peeks it in these two LPs

  • Way Way too Kool ! K Rocks USA !

  • This is a great song from the 2000 release "Somewhere to Elsewhere." Steve's voice is very good on this one. Wonderful job!

  • wow i never heard this but its sounds great especially steves voice is very strong..icaris born on wings is my favorie song from kansas maybe magnum opus.wow this is awesome still iw ish theyd feature rich in some heavy wailing parts more on there music cause it fits in so well and wow hes awesome too when i saw them in 77 the spotlight was all on kerry pretty much. not on dave hardly.

  • well, that teach us not to underestimate rhytm guitar players, Rich is amazing!

  • @rodcrippler

    Oh yeah!!

"dodging all the tracers" section makes my hair stand on end!

  • Rich williams played lead riffs in the earlier days 1973, 1974, 1975.... Kerry Livgren was playing more keyboards during those times but seemed to break out more leads and rhythms during the Masque LP. Rich and Kerry sort of alternated leads as Steve and Robby did lead vocals....

  • @GRILLBUOY101 I think Dave Hope was one of the best bass guitarist that Ive ever seen...

  • This song reminds me of early morning missions here in Afghanistan in my up armored Humvees. Somestimes I sing this as I prep to move in the mornings.

  • You have awesome taste in music! Thank you for all that you've done and continue to do for our country!

  • Dude, I wish you safety and many blessings. You guys are the unsung heroes and dedicated Americans. God Bless You and keep you safe!

  • iv never heard this.. i got masque and wore it out LOL.. seen them 77 DC capital centre.. what a show.. i love this band very progressive and beyond their time..yea great vid

  • I don't know how long ago this has been, but it is really good. I think Steve sounds great.

  • This is from the Device-Voice-Drum DVD which was released in 2002! Walsh sounded good then and you can find live posts from just a couple of months ago where he still sounds great!

  • On the Kansas box set "Sail On, the 30th Anv. Collection" there's a hidden easter egg that plays Distant Vision form this same concert. Don't know why they didn't just include in on the Device Voice Drum DVD...

  • I believe that it's because they hold little items out of most of what they release to use as incentives for other collections to be released later! They have so many releases(best of,definitive collection, extended versions and then remastered versions!) that you would go broke trying to own them all(I'm trying!)Distant Vision was also released as an "enhanced CD bonus track"(A video on a cd!) on the Device-Voice-Drum CD!

  • Robbie looks sexy in this one!

  • great kansas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mui linda cancion *.*

    n_n

  • The only thing that I don't like about this song is that it is so freaking hard to hear the violin!!! Why is the volume so low?? But aside from that, it's awesome. It picked up where the first Icarus song left off.

  • You guys need to check out Steve Walsh's CD release from last year called Shadow Man, it's the best rock N roll I've ever heard!!! Can't wait to see Kansas in Miami this coming July 19th!!!

  • How was the Kansas Show? Photos ? Sound? Lights?

Send a review to me, for K People USA. Thanks.

NEW LIVE CD up. See my YouTube FAVORITES for samples:

  • I will not disagree with those who perfer Ragsdale to Steinhardt, but I personaly think Robby and his 'look' has become synonymous with Kansas.

  • awesome! My Dad is so proud to own the plate "dust in the wind" and i think you i dont have to tell you why =D.

    Greedings from Germany =)

PS: i already rated this video , 5 stars for sure ;)

  • -you ...sry^^

  • This cd was an awesome addition to the many albums of Kansas. Released when rap crap dominated the pop market, this prog rock music was a breath of fresh air.

  • @Dupes78 Actually Somewhere to Elsewhere was released in 2000 and it combatted all of the boy bands (NSYNC and The Backstreet Boys) and it totally trucked them.

  • Good stuff. I own this cd, "Somewhere to Elsewhere." It is great, and includes all the original members.

  • billy greer is not the original bass player.

the great dave hope is. the audio on this sounds great on the dvd. I saw them two weeks after this dvd was done and they sounded tired. it was the worst performance I have ever seen kansas do. I have seen them play live 18 times since 1976.they really missed the great violin of david ragsdale during this period. he is back with them now.

  • Both Billy Greer and Dave Hope are on the c.d. "Somewhere to Elsewhere". Technically lobo is right all the original members plus Greer are on that c.d.!

  • yes! I agree.

  • And they purposely do not tell you who played on what track .

  • Your right Billy is not the original bass player BUT he has been with them longer than that Dave hope

  • This is from the "Device Voice Drum" DVD which also was released as a CD! The song was originally released on "Somewhere to Elsewhere"

  • are youc shure

  • I've been huge Kansas fan most of my life and this song really reminds me of the old Kansas. I do miss Kerry Livgren being part of the group -- although he seems happy with Proto Kaw.

  • WOW! Greatest Kansas song ever, Thanks a lot!!!
