  • Look at thos chins

  • You can close apps, you do this by dragin them down to the bottom of the screen and they fade away. Then close.

  • this is not that bad on a tablet! =D

  • ok. i take Android

  • Have you actually tried to install Win8 on a tablet before? Else I do not need to argue with you, it's my review after trying, you don't believe it, why don't you try it out your self? For me I rather save all the storage for more useful purpose, personal opinion, we all do respect, I don't find your comment "meaningless", just you have a diff view that's it :)

  • microsoft and sony copy to much

  • @thetwolegendbros Copy from what? Awesomeness??!!

  • @NeofirenX nintendo

  • actually thats not a god damn tablet ITS A GOD DAMN MINI PC

  • can't wait playing battlefields on a tablet.

  • hmm I don’t think ‘Windows 8’ will work well as a ‘tablet OS’ for a whole host of reasons. MS, if they want to get into the tablet business, need to start from scratch on a new OS for tablets only, not try to rehash Windows to fit the purpose; this may end up being a calamity for Microsoft!

  • News:They redesigned the windows logo and now it looks like a piece of shit!

  • Well seriously, after I watched the whole video, I'll suggest to take away the mouse and keyboard, this OS is not so much usable, you'll find you torturing your self to write in Words, click that small "Start" menu with your finger, hardly tab the "file" menu just to save the document. Yeah and you wanna' do "drag and drop" on this OS with just your fingers? Why the hell do we still need that mouse cursor there? hahaha ... this is a joke ... really!

  • @ngcheewei21 Yes, this OS is so much more usable for touch. A touch screen.....motion sensors whatever you like to think of will never be as practical as a mouse and keyboard. Not only are they cheap, but they work and do what they do at its best.

The best thing I've seen so far for a mouse is a software that actually can sense where you're looking at the screen and you can literally click anywhere you want as long as you look at it. But even then it doesn't sound as practical.

  • Win8 is like just picking up Windows 7 and just plug it with Windows Phone UI, then renamed it to Windows 8, not much of sincerity work.

Other OSes like Android, only 100MB+ in image, iOS were just merely few hundred MB, Win8 will take at least 16GB to install ... that will make me throw it directly straight into the drain.

  • @ngcheewei21 1.Android and iOS are not full-fledged OSs(Unlike Win8). The PC counterpart of iOS is the Mac OS which is a LOT different from the iOS you see in the iPad.

2.Win8 will take 16 GB? What are you, nuts? Win7 takes 4-5 GB. And as you said 'Win8 is nothing but Win7 plugged with a new UI'. Well I'm pretty sure a UI doesn't account for 10 GB of space. So how come the whole OS will eat 16 GB?

    Dude....your comments are meaningless.

  • why is windows making a mac?

  • Well done Microsoft, naming a phone/table OS a full operating system. I'm sure the gamers, techs, and hobbyists will flock to this golden apple. Tablets aren't a replacement to notebooks. Good luck with this release.

  • where you buy that tablet and how much?????

  • @kostastsampiras You can get one from the Microsoft Store but its dumbed down a bit from the one at the handed out at the developer preview. and the "Consumer Preview" is supposed to come out on the 29th of feb.

  • how much is one? because here in Brazil has not , this country is shit .

  • this is wack IT IS NOT THE COURIER!!!! that was a true tablet and in my opinion a true contender to the Ipad ( Kudos to the kindel fire though) but I agree i dont think this will sell very well simpley because windows is in the Name the design of the Courier is soooooo much better then this trashtablet.

  • too complicated. just buy a 11inch notebook for 250box.

  • 3 reasons why windows 8 tablets won't sell:

1: 20 GB to install is required, iOS requires 1 GB

2: Uses 230+ MB of RAM

3: People are not open to anything with 'windows' in it's name. Microsoft need a new name for the tablet version, like just calling it 'tablet' or something

  • @nhking4 To a standard buyer imports the fluidity and speed, not the hardware specifications.=)

  • @nhking4 Meanless (Microsoft Windows 8 will go on sell as the Windows 7 users over 90% in OS market share in the world)

  • @WhattanabeeCHHD In that respect u r definently right but in tablets i think people ( the general market) would reach for android or ios.i hope windows 8 beta shows some nice things l8er on

  • @nhking4 You're comparing a full operating system to a mobile one. Currently, the gap between the two is wide open. The iPad is fun, but it lacks practicality and compatibility because it's designed by Apple for a young demographic. There's no reason for the tablet and notebook not to converge, and unless Apple does something smart soon, I think Microsoft could do just that with the release of Windows 8 tablets.

  • @Fagottron Microsoft has the tendency to remain on top as Microsoft's history has proven before. It's the circle of life.

  • I want a tablet with some serious power under the hood like that one and the OS looks really elegant

  • I want a tablet that I can download things like .exe files on it and still run it. I hope that microsoft makes something like that. The tablets that they're coming out with now are cute little portable game toys and internet surfing gadgets, but I want a laptop without a keyboard.

  • Follow my channel

  • @cameroncroggers1995 i am similar but i like all things Microsoft no matter what but i think what they are trying to do is achieve some form of uniformity that has made Apple so successful, i like Metro but a big change like this was always going to divide opinion

  • metro is created to be use whit the finger no by mouse!!

  • Ok but is this slate posses an : Three-axis gyro Accelerometer Ambient light sensor

Which is important to new software

  • will it play cod black ops? or crysis?

  • @PAKISRULEZ it will say fu when you try

  • @PAKISRULEZ too bad they use intel's crap on-board graphic :P so no you can't

  • @PAKISRULEZ Probably not. :P

    Doesn't have a dedicated GPU... I think. :P

  • i still think Windows XP is the best Windows OS.

  • not as powerful as a laptop so what's the point with the desktop windows..keep it all metro!!

  • Landscape only? (because position of home button)

  • thats cool 4 a tablet..... not desktop

  • super computer/tablet cost?????

  • This is a Windows Phone operating system, but not Windows 7

  • actually looks pretty good. I'm glad that windows is really taking some EFFECTIVE action into tablet, 10 years after gates predicted the domination of tablet 10 years ago...

  • Can't wait to install this to my iMac!

  • I'd rather have Windows 7. I'm not looking forward to this OS.

  • Sooo im confused now... the Windows 8 tablet PC is different than the Samsung 7 Series tablet PC right??? Or what....

  • Now if this runs on (or something like) the transformer prime then well that'll do.

  • هههههههههههههه ويندوز حلوو

  • @ham4id Sorry, i dont speak squigly line.

  • @Grubbyashes He just said "hahaha beautiful windows" in Arabic. though I understand you frustration :)

  • @Sazad93 lol thanks

  • @Grubbyashes this is the arabic language, show some respect

  • I am really shaky on the metro thing. I think they should revamp the whole desktop and everything, focusing on improving stability and convenience.

  • A lot of power under the hood ? My computer runs i7(overclocked) to 4.5-4.8Ghz

  • @Thebeaner123456ify Its a tablet. It is a lot of power.

  • @Thebeaner123456ify i7? You're out of date. 2600's are out.

  • A Computer on every desk and in every home, running microsoft software

  • @haddybabe you're ignorant...

  • microsoft- now trying to put a pc os on a tabet

  • Dude, I thought you're a priest :D

  • ponte haser poquito ejersisio

  • @rodolfogoncor Y tu a aprender a escribir en español. Troll.

  • so.. steve jobs dies and the pc market goes to hell. Im a microsoft fanboy all the way unless its xbox, and the reason i hate xbox is because of the metro look which is childish looking. Sadly microsoft is making windows look like it...

  • this will be the death of the ipad because ipad does not support java or flash. ipad is going to be for kids.

I cant wait to use this for work. outlook at work and now outlook at home. fuck ipad.

  • Amazinggggggggggggggggggggg

  • i wish i will be able to use autocad like pc

  • hmm, maybe something that's finally actually worth switching away from linux for... still highly unlikely

  • Hate it.

  • this looks absolutely disgusting. I am not going to be using windows 8.

  • Splendor

  • Stupid! I dun like the interface!

  • Does this have Zune on it?

  • @Starstreakauthor yeah,,,,,,

  • Looks cool but it still needs another 2-3 years imho :/

  • nice my boss has one and plays everything flash vids, etc finally i can watch videos other than youtube vids

  • Windows Aids

  • a windows 7.5 phone and a windows 8 tablet -- im ready to sell 1 of my kidneys!!!! :p

  • This is what software should be all about: tons and tons of options! flexibility, my friends! Can't wait for a tablet with Windows 8. The fact that you can switch from desktop to metro, metro to desktop without any kind of monkey business is what we want. this is option and flexibility. it gives the user more freedom to perform tasks the way it fits better to his needs. thanks you, MS, for beating the crap out of you know who.

  • What keyboard is he using in this video? I want one!

  • This thing is more than a tablet! This is a computer!!!

  • "Traditional methods". So Piratebay.

I'm happy there's a store though, this will sit lovely with my WP7, and very soon upcoming my Xbox metro look!

  • When Microsoft Said Windows 7 Kills Snow Leopard Windows 8 Epicly Kills Snow Leopard & Lion!

So Fuck Macintosh. im Switching back to PC! :3

  • @robloxlover55 Windows 7 kills nothing. It's better then it's predecessor but not better then Snow Leopard or Lion.

Windows 8 is not out yet so we have yet to see how people react to and adopt it. If people don't like it then it won't matter if it's better then anything.

  • Dumbing down desktop computer to the level of a tablet is outright scary. (Yeah, I know the Metro can be turned off in Win8 DP... using a registry tweak.)

  • @deggis4 Obiously, you can still access the normal classic desktop from metro (looks very similar to Win. 7)

  • @TheOz1999 That's not the problem. Problem is that I'm afraid users are going to forced to use Metro in some ways, e.g. the start screen. I understand many things might be unfinished in the Developer Preview but there's no way to turn Metro off _completely_ other than doing a simple registry tweak but majority of casual users will not do that.

  • @deggis4 I really hope it's possible that you can fully turn it off in the control panel becuase otherwise Windows won't be an OS anymore - more like a mobile os(like iPad) good thing this i just in Alpha session and not the realese.

  • This is the first windows I liked.

  • @pzdandrea Why?

  • @pzdandrea does windows 8 includes already a player that automatically plays FLV or MP4 videos? or do we still need to download and install a codec pack?

  • this is a real big hit to other OS aimed towards tablets pcs.. no more honeycomp or gingerbread , this the real OS whick will be covering the whole world of pcs desktop ,tablet ,pad and laptop etc....

  • shit due to name of that - "Winows".

  • Yep MS copied ideas as did Apple, the Windowing environment was not created by Apple it was created by Xerox PARC in 1980 as was the mouse. So Apple people can get off their high, "I'm superior to you" horses and actually learn something about computing, rather than showing their ignorance, and perpetuating garbage for other Apple users to learn. Windows = choice, Apple = no choice

  • @markra I assume you're referring to the X Window System which was developed for UNIX and UNIX-like systems?

  • @markra This need WAY MORE THUMBS UP (Tweeted)

  • @markra i'm just wondering if you have ever owned or used an apple computer? They are far more user friendly with their navigation. Mac OS isn't built for a home, it is built for a professional environment. Mac

  • @markra Actually, Apple didn't "copy" Xerox PARC's work. They saw the value in a project Xerox saw as a useless toy & PURCHASED the rights from them. Many companies do steal from each other. MS did in fact steal when Apple hired them to write a WORD for their Mac Operating system. At that time MS had DOS only, they took what they learned from their project w/ Apple to build the first version of Windows, tested and distributed it overseas in secret. Seems you have some learning to do as well.

  • @genesishep Hmmm.... Apple BOUGHT rights from Xerox?

May be you're right! It explains why Xerox counter-sued Apple when Apple sued MS for copying the GUI "look-and-feel".

They heired MS to write some real-world programs while they fidgeted with some silly font settings. Apple was still was, and is, impotent in writing their own OS. Writing a shinny new shell on FreeBSD and boasting about network security?!? What a ripp-off!!!!

    Happy learning, Genius!

  • @nicknet18 Yes, bought...or rather secured rights by offering pre-IPO Apple stock at the time they toured the Xerox campus. Also, many of the original programmers of the Xerox project left to join Apple and continue their research as Xerox treated it as a nowhere project. So lets see, the original programmers ripped off their own work? Please, you truly have no idea what you are talking about. Back to school for you. NeXT was far more than a shinny new shell but I won't even go there.

  • looks amazing! apple are screwed now that all these tablets with windows and USB ports are coming... GOOD BYE IPAD!

  • ARRGGH! 11 minutes and not even a second to spare to show how touch screen keyboard works.. how write to eg. notepad or word. Any "smart" writing?? Thats more important to see thnt your damn finger clicking multiple times firefox close button

  • Press your finger on the screen and hold it to right click in Windows n00b.

  • Those who say this is utter crap because of the Metro interface can still switch to desktop mode, gosh, take the time to take a better look. Don't know what the big deal is, appart from having a full os, with a touch-friendly interface available for tablets...

  • Bring back Windows 98 SE please.

  • Excellent touch response at 5:00 lol

  • Tried Windows 8 Preview, all I can say is UTTER CRAP! Microsoft is clearly shitting their pants over iFad but they're making all the wrong moves.

  • hey dude.. what keyboard is that?

  • Windows is almost completely redone w/ Win8, so right now, many people hate it, but let's be honest, we all get used to it, the accustomed to it then, sometimes, like if not love it!

  • me da lastima que una empresa de mierda como microsoft copie todas las ideas de linux, no tienen verguenza

  • Ok, testing it now. For Desktop it's a Nightmare...

Testing it on a notebook with integrated graphics(128 MB) and the animations are pretty slow(it's alpha yet anyway)... And why do they think that ugly edges for windows is more beautiful than rounder a little bit? And in the "Start Menu" when u click to move to the right or left they should of done a smooth scrolling instead of jumping, it's kind of ugly comparing that all is animated in here...

  • Lo voglio!!!!

  • Can someone tell me why the Metro style apps does not work on my 10.1 inch MSI WIND U160DX Netbook?

  • @TakingShapeCreations Because it has resolution of 1024x600..........Metro tiles only Support 1024x768 and higher

  • @TheShawaal That is soooo stupid. God this is crazy. Why make a feature that is not supported by netbooks? Yet is works on a cell phone. Its just beyond me. Micro$oft better fix that thing fast. They are gonna have alot of angry customers. I know they can fix it.

  • @TakingShapeCreations netbooks came and gone were you living under a rock... future is in the touch my friend.

  • @excite236 What are you talking about? My netbook was manufactured early this year, and i am sure millions still use netbooks and a desktop like myself. Not everyone has money to buy a new technology every couple months. People have responsibilities. So microsoft should cater to us and make the feature work with the not so old and new. Like AMD for example, they look out for people who dont have money to waste, making their new chips work on older boards.

  • Maybe the Samsung slider pc will finally come out. Been waiting for that tablet for like 8 months now. Samsung slider pc with Windows 8 will be the greatest!

  • I think people don't quite yet realize how customizable this new UI is. With the Live icons and everything, imagine the possibilities. It's going to be a lot more powerful than simply changing colors or opacity. Like it or not, small form factor computers are dominating and the future. Desktops are fading.

  • Can't decide between getting a Samsung Series 7, or waiting for the first Ivy Bridge tablets!

  • @Andy0n7 sux?

and by sux i mean alot

  • 98 good

    2000 bad

    xp good

    vista BAD

    7 good

    8 guess what?

  • actually the metro ui doesn't look so bad, but there are lots of full-control features such as the task manager and control panel that still require the classic desktop ui. hope that will change in the final release.

i still prefer the classic desktop btw.

  • what was wrong with with the start menu, desktop and explorer being the main shell?

  • I really dislike it so far

  • Microsoft has nailed it. Same great experience across all "3 screens"

  • @bufbarnaby lol

  • @fckdsht hah

  • Fantastic...OSX is toast !

  • Comment removed

  • Since it appears the actual desktop was an after-thought, I hope they plan on supporting Windows 7 for the next 15 years.

No interest in a tablet or touch-screen PC.

  • do not know if want.

  • At first i thought this version of windows looked promising but after seeing this video and how it mimics a desktop, it just seems messy.. I realllllly really want this tablet! if only it were running osx. This tablet with wacom + OSX + zbrush = a dream come true.

  • can you install zune?? i would be sad if it's not availalbe for this build...

  • i wish there was a way to have a black backbround for amoled screens~ Also Tellme voice recognition would be a big plus

  • Windows>Macintosh

  • Windows>Macintosh

  • just another microsoft's piece of crap

    ok, now, I've seen it.

  • @VCaesar Another sycophantic twat who would know a good product if it sat on his face and wiggled.

  • I thought I will buy a Asus Transformer now, but when I saw this..Maybe I should wait for a year to buy my first tablet..Great!Oh it's not just a Tablet but a Desktop Tablet..(what??)

I hope microsoft office and other essential apps like Adobe PS5 will run smoothly here. And I hope, my favorite alt+tab shortcut key is still here..:D

  • 20 000 views in a day? I guess Anandtech must be doing something right...

  • lol look at this piece of shit operating system on an awful tablet. WATCH OUT APPLE. REDMOND IS COMING

  • @jonny290 apple is an overpriced crap...

  • The problem is not Micrososft, they have to many people to please if the just built windows 8 with metro alone all of you would be moaning saying great another tablet that i can't get real work done and then all of you would say fail before it was out the gate when they do add office you guys then moan that it's weighing down there progress and the should just make a tablet either way people who make comments here would moan and complain.

  • as long as it allowed me do all the thing I can do with windows 7 I welcome windows 8. The same windows for tablet and PC should means I can play my GOG games and big fish games and steam games on the tablet. right?

  • ipad the past,win8 the future

  • uh wtf where is quake diablo and halflife 2... thats what a PC is for not this feelgood mac crap

  • damn, I hate how some menus look like a cell phone

  • Finally, a tablet that CAN replace the desktop!!!!!! This is exactly what I want from Windows 8! Keep up the good work guys!!

  • It feels like KDE with methmouth!!

  • Microsoft is failing bigtime, I believe/hope this will be the end of another mainstream corporation. Linux is the future and current.

  • @Sodlig the only way i would ever run a linux OS, is if they got support from all of the game developers out there....doubt that'll happen..

  • @Sodlig but yeah, i generally like linux OS' more than Windows, and especially mac OSX... but Windows 7 is pretty damn good

  • Ubuntu > Windows

  • @Sodlig What is Ubuntu? Only 100+ people know it. lol!!!! WIndows known to a couple of billion people of the planet..My kid tried Ubuntu and could not use wifi with missing incomplete drivers.

  • I applaud Microsoft for at least doing something different though, even if I believe that something different is confusing, schizophrenic, and essentially a bad strategy.

  • I know it's beta software, but it would be nice if he would even acknowledge that it takes 8 swipes for some things to work.
