I'm not defending these pageants. I don't really like them either. Just saying they are "child abuse" is a little bit of a stretch. True some kids are forced because their parents are otherwise too stubborn to care and there are many other outside dangers, but if thsese kids are being "abused" then I must have been "abused" as a child as well.
It was a difficult decision to make, I do miss competing, and I wouldn't take those years back for anything, but It was a sacrifice I was willing to make because I knew that if I wanted to be on Broadway someday, I was going to have to get as much experience with theatre as I could. From ages 14-18 I performed in 21 productions and about nine of them were associated with professional companies and last summer, I recieved my first paycheck for performing in a musical.
And we were majorly judged as well on technique, difficulty, musicality, execution, body lines, if we looked presentable etc. I had fun doing it though and it greatly improved my skills as a dancer and performer. However, the acting/musical theatre bug bit me hard when I was 14 and after my freshman year of high school, I stopped competing to pursue a better background in theatre.
If you're calling child beauty pagents "child abuse" you might as well say the same thing about dance competitons. I competed from the ages of 6 to 15 and I had to wear a considerable amount of make-up (mascara, eyeliner, blush, lipstick, eye shadow), have my hair pulled back and pinned in a bun (changed into just a ponytail when I became older), and had to wear a few flashy costumes here and there.
I saw this ad and I lost all remaining faith in humanity.

I think pagaents are a good thing to do for young kids. Mainly because it makes them believe in them selves and gives them confidence, also they will always feel beautiful, and they should because they are, feeling beautiful is something everyone should feel. Its also good cause it leads into a career of modeling and when you start young you become really good and can go far, i dont see anything wrong with it.

And as a BFA Musical Theatre Major, my dancing skills are a huge plus because most musical theatre majors don't have proficient dancing skills.
I'm not defending these pageants. I don't really like them either. Just saying they are "child abuse" is a little bit of a stretch. True some kids are forced because their parents are otherwise too stubborn to care and there are many other outside dangers, but if thsese kids are being "abused" then I must have been "abused" as a child as well.

It was a difficult decision to make, I do miss competing, and I wouldn't take those years back for anything, but It was a sacrifice I was willing to make because I knew that if I wanted to be on Broadway someday, I was going to have to get as much experience with theatre as I could. From ages 14-18 I performed in 21 productions and about nine of them were associated with professional companies and last summer, I recieved my first paycheck for performing in a musical.

And we were majorly judged as well on technique, difficulty, musicality, execution, body lines, if we looked presentable etc. I had fun doing it though and it greatly improved my skills as a dancer and performer. However, the acting/musical theatre bug bit me hard when I was 14 and after my freshman year of high school, I stopped competing to pursue a better background in theatre.

If you're calling child beauty pagents "child abuse" you might as well say the same thing about dance competitons. I competed from the ages of 6 to 15 and I had to wear a considerable amount of make-up (mascara, eyeliner, blush, lipstick, eye shadow), have my hair pulled back and pinned in a bun (changed into just a ponytail when I became older), and had to wear a few flashy costumes here and there.

in my opinion, little girls should be playing outside with their friends, dressing up/pretending, and playing with dolls...not being forced to starve themselves and drastically change their appearance to win a beauty pagent.

Wearing more makeup then a porn star is a different matter all together. It isn't the child beauty they are seeing. It is all fake. Fake hair, fake teeth, makeup, spray tanning, and some of the outfits are strip club worthy. They do not look like children at all. :(

I think pagaents are a good thing to do for young kids. Mainly because it makes them believe in them selves and gives them confidence, also they will always feel beautiful, and they should because they are, feeling beautiful is something everyone should feel. Its also good cause it leads into a career of modeling and when you start young you become really good and can go far, i dont see anything wrong with it.

Most are just so strict and mean, they don't even listen to their child if they are in pain, its just "Mommy i don't like it, stop plz" Mom: "OH SHUSH you big baby" and most children are supposed to have a fun happy childhood, not things that make them aware of their insecurities, that happens when you like a teenager. I happened to be one of those children who were dressed up and stuff, it's frustrating.

Also, i am a teenager myself at the moment, and i would loved to have been put in things like this, it would have given me more confidence in myself, but im from Australia, and although most Aussies are 100% against it, i am not. we are two different people, that are 2 different ages from 2 different countries, with 2 different opinions. I will stick to my word.
