My mom has been shopping at this Kroger since before I was born...she insists, even though I have told her about my nice modern updated Kroger thats only a couple miles away. Although, like a few people said it IS known as the "Ghetto Kroger" around here(with good reason), it is still employing people and as long as people still shop there it is a great thing, the last thing we need is more stores closing.
They have the updated Checkout- Light up lane signs, but the isle signs are probably from the 80's. I know quite a few Kroger stores in small towns that have about 5 isles and 3 checkout's and no u-scans!!
Nice footage! This store actually looks like a hodgepodge of styles: The exterior looks the same now as it did in the 1970s. Inside, the floor tiles are original; the grid motif on the walls dates to the early 1990s; the checkout stand markers (and possibly the green paint) are from the late 1990s/early 2000s decor package, and unless I'm mistaken the aisle signs are from the 1980s.
What can I say; I've been shopping at Kroger too long. ;-)
WOW! This looks like the video was shot years ago! It's amazing how vintage it looks. I work at a Kroger, so it seems like a before and after type thing for me! Thanks for posting this!
liking retail history; why is that, did your parents have a shop?
.
Margaret Thatcher's parents had a shop.
.
I like looking at early shopping malls; those that were not fully enclosed, and others which were completely demolished and a modern mall put in place.

This looks like the Kroger on Allen and West Road's in Woodhaven. The store in Woodhaven has 4 regular checkouts and 4 U-Scan's though.
