  • hrm have big eyes with love inside

  • erm Always a good time with me

  • Paco de Lucia.

  • flute player kills it imo.

  • lol Hot, frisky and outgoing girl, who wants to have fun

  • nice

  • I think this was a fine rendition & i have seen the McLaughlin, Meola, Lucia trio live! Great work, I hope to cover this tune myself one day :-)

  • uhhhh when playing al di meola, its key to have the right tempo...... and rhythm, i hear none of that in this........ dont cover al unless your going to not butcher it

  • picks are good, but flamenco its for finger (personal opinion)

  • great stuff!

    check out my version!

  • que buenos! parece que hay calidad.

  • this is very nice !!! it's quite pleasant to listen to.

  • this is very nice !!!

  • I think the name of Al di Meola should be write in the title because this song it's his song...very great cover!

  • @retorium: Of course Paco's version is a million, a thousand million times better. But who care?

  • Shut up and listen

  • Personally, I don't get all these you tube criticisms, if you don't like it, listen/watch something else. Not that complicated a thought process! Of course, there is always the alternative: STFU!

  • I am uneducated and I don't know about timing or who is playing which interpretation but I sure do know what I like. I LIKE !!!

Sending mile high stars from Denver, CO to Elegant Gypsy Trio *****

  • they're time isn't that good.

  • sorry bad interpretation

  • @Arturito28 why?

  • You have reason, it is not because to say it that I put, personally I like the interpretation of the trio: Paco de lucia, the dimeola and John McLaughlin, but I realize that this well, the rapidity does not please me in this case, there gets lost the sensibility of musical expression.

  • Hey, flute player! You should've taken some more! LOL

    NIce arrangement.

  • sweet:)

  • if only the original artist could perform their music, it would all die with them. nice job, i love adding the flute.

  • Its actually al di meola's song not paco de lucia

  • It sucks

  • @OmarPeruXXX yes cause you cant play like them

  • Good job, very nicely done "Mediterranean Sundance" rendition.

  • There is no one better tham Al Demiola!

  • @br2dive it would have been nice if you knew how to spell his name correctly.

  • playing tooooooooo fast thats a disgrace to the music!!!! if i was there i would have got up and punched them in the face for doing that!!!!

  • nice playing but i'm tired of people who throw out their weak opinions. Yes we all know Paco De Lucia is "better" than all of us. I have been playing 30 years and I am better than lots of cats but who cares? Music is not a competition nor a contest.

It's a nice arrangement of a complicated piece to play so we should say great job!

  • @mardebcin - best comment by far. You're right it should not be a competition or a contest and these guys did a pretty good job of what is a difficult piece, my congratulations to them. From my experience the people who are most critical tend to be those who are least likely to be able to play, fellow musicians tend to encourage rather than criticise. My real concern, Mardebcin, you say after 30 years playing you are better than lots of cats - there are still some better than you? ha ha

  • now as i read my comment-it sounds funny and of course there are a lot of players who are more proficient on the guitar than me but that is always the case I think.

and i think people are conditioned to compare-hell we learn this in school.

let's enjoy is what you tube should be about-let's enjoy the fruits of someone's hard work and dedication.

too many negative comments on you tube which make one realize opinions are like assholes and sadly there are too many of those types here..

  • Damn, these guys are playing like if there would be no tomorrow.

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds great with the flute, but the guitar leads need to be attacked more precisely, but it's not bad at all.

  • Una mierda. Seguro son españolas las perras.

  • @27copas

  • compassssssssss

  • @0645868701 Sorry, but what a compas in Mediterranean Sundance?? It isn't flamenco... This more jazz, than flamenco... I think. Rumba maby? Answed, plz.

  • @PiterNight

    es rumba

no digo ke esta mal :)

lo contrario , pero se puede mejorar

    suerte

  • this is not Paco's but AL Di Meola's composition

  • The classical/flamenco guitarist is using a pick!

  • awesome

  • congratulation!!!! awesome !!!!

  • you guys are being too harsh.

OBVIOUSLY these guys are not paco de lucia, but nobody even comes close to him.

this is about as close as it gets.

  • i hate the flute guys im guitarrist and my girlfriend is messing around with him =´(

  • the bombdigity

  • Hey dudes! You are so close. Drop the flute-get a guy who can fingerstyle the classical and have the ovationist really get the 128th notes-he could play with al and paco back in the day.-super talent. Thanks alot for keeping this music alive.

  • real nice, good job

  • the guitarists have the ability here, but the clave is off. I would drop 10 bpm here, just to get some clarity, and to get the steel string guy to stop having to rush the quick parts then wait to catch up. But this stuff is hard, make no mistake.

  • Nice Job Guys, Keep it up...

-3.klassig!

  • Absolutely beautiful. I love the flute! These guys first of all deserve credit for taking on this song and secondly for doing it well!

  • they have made a great job, but original version will always be the best, with paco, al and john.

  • It sounds much better with a spanish guitar...and with Paco de Lucia playing it...

  • some people doesn't know how hard this piece is... I think these guys are doing a really impressive job!

  • great but theyre playing it too fast...!

  • They're not playing it too fast. They're rushing it. There's a difference. Contrary to what people have been saying here, the San Fran recording (which I actually think is too fast) sounds very different. It is much steadier. At least these guys try their best.

  • @zombieraddish I agree, in some parts the song is not 'breathing'. it's a matter of a second or half-second, but those are important.

  • That's awsome when more then one acoustic guitar plays the incredible sound generated... guess spanish guitar show a sound like no other. Thats all!!

  • just awesome !! - love the flute !!

if you want to get an idea of this song as it was written - go and get the album

"A Friday Night in SanFransisco" - then you'll all know that these guys aren't rushing - it's the way the song was written. Nice work guys !

  • i cannot tell you're bad neither totally perfect. What I can say is that you play veeeery well, but you need cadency. Mainly in the begining and in the end you rush the most emotional part of the song. Sometimes to play a bit slowly is much better. Well, the improvisation was good and the recording is not your fault (lol). it's it. congrats.

  • it does sound rushed... the quality of the recording and the stage it was played on are all factors on why it doesnt sound quite right. if we were there first hand im sure this would have sounded fantastic! very nice piece gents!

  • Guys, you are great! Don't pay attention to those envies people who are leaving their bad comments, they are bad people and definitely bad players!

  • were they playing with picks?

  • only Paco can play without ;)

  • seems as if they are rushing way too much

  • cherryy something is so fucking frustrated you guys are AWESOME don't pay attention to those baad comments you are great

  • I think the same, if it were well recorded I'd give you 5 *

  • Just some wannabes with no sense of rhytm. This sounds like homosexuals srewing each other on a boat in the Mediterrean while it is sinking.

  • What the hell is that supposed to mean? You could have left it with your first comment.

  • sound like total shit

  • good, BUT ..... Paco de lucia and Al di Meola..better...very....!

  • They can play guitar!

  • this would have sounded SOOOOOO much better if it was a better recording.... its killing the sound right now

  • Omg sucky... my ears.. :(

  • complimentoni! very good!!

  • SWEEEET....!!

    Great Performance....@@@@

  • Comment removed

  • pacos version is a million times better

  • Sure. But pacos are guitar GODS!

While they r just covering :)

  • true

  • what shells ...where is youre try ? :-P

  • @retorium

fanculo, è paco! i like you guys! flute has been a great idea!

  • Actually comparing Paco de Lucia to these guys is extremely retarded. Paco de Lucia is the greatest guitarist ever. Of course it isn't as good as Paco de Lucia playing that. i knew that before i opened this video! No one can play it like that. Doesn't mean you cant arrange it to your standards without destroying it.

I think they did a pretty good job. Well done!

btw its Al Di Meola's song not Paco's

  • @pintinslim No, it is Mediterranean Sundance which is Al di Meola's until 0:58 but after that they go into Rio Ancho which is Paco's song.

On another note I really like this arrangement and song.

  • @retorium Because it's about Paco! These guys play really well... it's just different, nothing else!

  • @retorium thats because paco is infinitely better

  • I like your shoes

  • verrrrrry good, good idea with the flute

  • does anybody know if they guy in the middle is using a cordoba 55 fce

  • cant understand why 4 1/2 stars..

  • thumbs up guys (y)

  • tooohooooo fast

  • Thank you again...you are great.Would love to see you live...

  • this is Al Di Meola's song...

  • it's paco's , check Rio Ancho. It's originally flamenco rumba

  • man ! you cannot compare a God of Guitar as Paco to some youngster from nowhere... But this is as cool as it can be... Go on youngsters ! One of you is probably the next Paco !!!

  • I love how everyone is a critic and says "Uh...these guys are o.k.....their timing during this part or that part was off....." enough already people!! This is an amazing performance of this song....Nothing before or after should be compared to Friday Night in San Fran.....but let's all appreciate other people who perform music that we all love!! In the words of John Lennon....."Let it Be"

  • In the words of Paul McArtney!

  • Recording lacks presence of individual instruments.

  • very nice guys!. congratulations, is amazing

  • their timing is so terrible in the mediterranean sundance section.

  • not bad... check out the hoene duo!!!

  • I like it. They did their own thing with it, which is cool.

  • Brilhante

  • It's good, better then I thaught acttualy.

Can't compare you guys to Paco de Lucia and his group, but gj.

I cant believe you play with a fret instead of fingers... =\

  • fret? don't you mean 'pick' mate!

  • wow! que bonito

  • the timings were a little eratic even though the notes were perfect.

  • You tried and almost succeeded. Now i'ma watch Paco's version.

  • great guys!

  • super cool !

  • sure you could say that its your own version and phrasing of this song, but in my opinion, yout time is terrible.

    nonetheless good job

  • Well, it's not bad, but it isn't excellent

Anyway, it's better than most the other versions that i've seen

  • very good job

  • Sencillamente espectacular...

  • bravissimi..........!

    non ho parole!

  • Yeah ... What he said!!!

  • Super de donde son ustedes?

  • wow!! nice one ^^

  • great!!

  • Well done

  • good Favor!!

  • nice cover

  • awesome, but the base guitar could play more softly while the other guitar solo.. but i think this fullfied music without silences is the energy of gipsy music.. i wish i could see it live to feel the heat, awesome

  • AQUI una version desde el Perú

  • it is really good, no doubt. but there is really no feeling into it, i feel like you just played it like its supposed to, i play it with a little more improv to give it something of my own

  • p.d:"puffymuppet":sorry if my english is bad i'm latino and i don't know how to write well.that is a proove of my ignorance. happy?

calm down before talking because you have to control your emotions.are you an emo or what? if you're not show it ok?i hope you see my point

  • does anyone else think this rendition is pretty off kilter from the de lucia/di meola original? the flute isn't a bad idea but something about their timing...it sounds rushed and the whole piece seems lacking in content

  • hey bloodyfinger is just fucking practice with fingers you're very ignorant

  • Ok, well thats your opinion. I don't know how I was being ignorant but fuck it whatever! BIOTCH\

  • Really? You can tell if a person is ignorant based on whether they use a pick or not? amazing. I don't know if that's reasonable or fair to say. I think though that it's reasonable to assume from your quick to render a judgement about someone based on a few words. Grow up Maylo.

  • And it takes a bigger man to tell him that.

  • i'm sorry but the flute ruins it.

  • I think they're trying to blend the sound from Rio Ancho, the song that the Mediterranean Sundance is based on, along with the version found on 'Passion, Grace and Fire". I think the flute works fine.

  • does it really make a difference if they use a pick or not, it still sounds fucking amazing. i don't know how you would play that fast without one.

  • Just type "Paco de Lucia" in and do a search.

  • yea, sometimes when i see paco de lucia playing i think his fingers are alien or sumthing..

  • this isn't paco.

  • pick or no pick, the sound is a matter of personal taste. The real score is how these players stand against the art form they are trying to imitate. What about their originality and the depth of improvisation?

  • These two seem to use picks and the string plucking style (my name for it, I do not lnow what else to call it) I have seen elsewhere (eg Jeronimo). Paco de Lucia does not use a pick, usually classically trained types do not. It sounds great both ways and neither is easy! Takes a lot of practice! Cool video, thanks!

  • I don't even know how anyone manages to do this without a pick

  • How 'bout Paco De Lucia? I think he plays it without a pick. Chris Carrington, Tomatito countless other flamenco guitarists who have the speed to play it without a pick. But yeah McLaughlin and Di Meola both play with a pick.

  • right but i'm mystified as to how any of those flamenco players managed to obtain the speed in their fingers to do so. Lots of practice I guess.

  • Rasgueado. It isn't the contractors but the extensors that can be attributed to their speed.

  • Rio Ancho on meth with a pick?? Lose the pick it is an abomination.

  • I understand where you're coming from, but it's just his style. John McLaughlin plays with a pick on nylon too, and he's certainly done okay becoming one of the greatest jazz guitarists ever.

  • why the fuck is using a pick on the last video i watched some kid was using a pick on a classcial too but anyways sounds okay

  • great version (correct speed, loved the flute), but I didn't like the abuse of the nylon-string guitar with that pick!=P Personally I think classical guitars sound many times better if played by finger.

But otherwise, a really, really good version!

  • Its speed is perfect, listen to the original recording, you guys are great! Flute was spot on as well.

  • this is probably the best cover of M.S on Youtube, a bit too fast though.

  • really good, but slow it down

  • Never heard this with a flute before. Nice version!

  • geez nice but fast.. to be great you should be slower

  • timing is...way off

  • good, but a bit fast, slow it to make clear
