Most surgeons will tell you, that because of the acidic nature of the abscess, local injectable anesthetics don't work well - the drugs lose a lot of their potency due to the effect of acidic environment of the abscess (low pH change) on it. That said, ouch!

Not that painful, it would be a waste of the vets drugs to pump the are full of lidocaine which is the most common local anaesthetic. Butorphanol is also out because the proceedure is so minor. Anaesthetic would also be so impractical, as you would be waiting about an hour for the cow to become usable.

this is pretty common, not this size but they contract alot of abscesses, but usually not ths big lol. dont call it animal cruelty, cuz it happens alot, n thats how you get it out, a human has a mouth to tell someone, and a brain to notice its wrong, the keepers somwtimes dont notice it
