Most of the commenters must be nuts. No cat, not even a moody one, behaves like that without being threatened, scared or feeling endangered. I got cats for almost two decades and I never seen anything of this sort happening in my house (maybe except of two tomcats fighting in the middle of the night over a cute mate ;-) )

But it is difficult to convince people who never lived with a cat in one household. They just think they know everything about them.

My grandmother helped abused or abandoned cats by taking them in her home in collaboration with the animal protective service and lot of them were scared and confused, but this was because of the way they were treated by bad owners or due the fact that they had become wild ,because of lack of human contact!
