Random that I clicked on this video... I just graduated PA school and my wife is a RN... Its crazy how ridiculously different the fields are. I kinda laughed when you said you had 2 six hour shifts in a row considering we do 80-100 hours a week lol... None the less I couldnt be a nurse, ever. So kudos to you for the crap you put up with. Doctors and PAs make the descisions, but nurses are vital to what we do.
For all the nurses out there who are BEAT and tired of the lies..for all the nurses out there who regret going into the field, know that it isn't recession proof and are SICK of people glorifying this pathetic field, give me a THUMBS up. It takes an intelligent person to pass nursing school and it IS competitive, but if the demons you face in nursing school aren't a clear indicator of what lies ahead, I don't know what it. I regret becoming a Registered Nurse. I will not live in denial about it
im a guy too our nursing uniform is completely white and it looks really nice with a opatch on the side of valencia college, you know i feel a bit burned already but ill hang in there and complete nursing school.
You have a great sense of humor! It's too bad that you didn't have more updates, but I congratulate you on the updates you uploaded! I can only imagine how intensive and extensive nursing school must be. I'm starting my own "vlog" of sorts in a similar fashion as yours (only mine is called "The Writer's Journey," since I will be studying for an English/Drama major). Much respect to you! :D
yea 6 hour clinical? thats pie! we have at LEAST 8 hour clinical from 7a to 4p usually. my feet kill me everytime! lol and yea those hip replacement patients are really sensitive, gotta be careful w/ turning and such. Wait until you get to the ICU haha w/ all of those IV lines and pumps, u thought turning was difficult..lol
You are really lucky to only have 6 hour days. We ALWAYS have to do 12 hour clinical days and it get rough after 2 days of class and 2 of the 12 hour clinical days during a week. Tip for home health rotation: BEWARE OF DOGS, I almost got attacked by a patient's dog who is unable to walk. It was very scary. My preceptor panicked, because that had never happened to her before, but she had warned me beforehand about the selling of drugs out of the home, but forgot about the dog. LOL!
Great videos. I will be starting nursing school in August and the times are Mon-Friday 8-5. So my question is when will I have time to study? Can you give some good study habits advice? HELP
I wonder how many mom's of nursing students you have watching your videos. I'm a mom of a nursing student and I love them. It gives me insight into what my daughter's doing. Keep the videos coming. Oh, my daughter was one of 20 students accepted as a freshman into the BSN program; the school will admit 40 more sophmore year. It's highly competitive as you know but such an honor.
I love that ur making videos its so informative! I am majoring in nursing & your program sounds so much better then what i am doing. I live in NJ & i am going to community college where i will get my associates & be an RN but i am planning on transferring after to a University to be a BSN. But right now i have to finish Chem so i can apply to the nursing program & next week i am taking the nursing entrance test. I find Chemistry so hard that i can even study. Do you have any tips for me?Thanks!
Hey... I'm a guy who recently switched from business to nursing major and I've applied for fall admission. I've been a little nervous after hearing how difficult and stressful it is, so it is cool to watch your videos and get a sense of what it is like. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
hi hannah you look tired and your eyes are so depressing....well anyway im a 4th year student too...so i think you can carry on and you could do your best don't worry bout the tired it's part of the job
...... hmmmm sound a bit sickly there don't I ??? LOL ah well never mind thats us brits for ya Take care and hope your sisters having a better time of it xxx
Well looky looky whos sharing the teaching with the PCA pump LOL. Great nice to see your confidence Don't worry about the music thing on your videos its something you can work on but I can hear you ,so so can everyone else. Would be nice if it were a little louder but I thinks its great you fit the time in to do this full stop and you give it so much thought. Keep it going and help all the wannabees and current students out there accross the globe , you can help so many people , you help me.
I'm in my 2nd semester. We are passing meds, pushing IV meds, catheters, NG tubes, starting IVs, phlebotomy, and all the basic nursing assistant stuff. Last semester I spent 3 weeks of clinicals in Long term care and 5 weeks on an Oncology floor. This semester I have been on a med surg floor, and surgery floor. I have a few more weeks of med surg left and then I begin my OB rotation. I am super excited about that.
i have a rather stupid question....how do you choose what kind of nurse you want to be? does it just depend on what department you apply for and hires you?
when you go to nursing school it's already comprehensive like medicine, this will equipped you to be a better nurse and along the way you will be introduce to different nursing specialties which is also your major subjects ex. maternal and child nursing , medcal surgical nursing and psychiatric nursing..... etc. so after you grad you can have masters degree depends on what major you would like to have but some would prefer the word specialization but yah i think the department can be one thing
Hey Hannah, Today was my first clinical day at the hospital for this semester. I was on a Vascular floor and had a really interesting patient. It was a short day but i'm looking forward to seeing how things go. Hope all is well with you!
This is inspiring, I only need two prereqs before I can apply for the nursing program and I have 3.2 GPA and am a male so I am not really worried about not getting accepted.
My only issue is that I have IBS and I know that the amount of stress I will encounter will only make my IBS worse, so my fear is having an accident while I am doing the clinicals.
My sister has IBS! If you are on the medication for IBS you should be fine....atleast I would think. As long as you practice stress relief...and calming techniques you should be good...it really isn't extremely extremely stressful...clinical isn't by any means the most stressful part of nursing! Atleast not for me. I would let your clinical professor know about your problem...so if anything did happen he/she would be understanding and aware. Don't let something like this stop you from doing it!
I am in my 3rd of 4 sem. and It is OB now. I start Ped's in March til May. Some days i wonder what in the world I got myself into. haha. I got to see my first Vag. birth on Fri. It was VERY cool. Though I dont' think I want to go into that field. I have been able to do many clinicals in the ER and ICU and I really like the fast pace environment. Though I am sure it will be a while til I am ready for that. Keep making videos!! I love hearing about your experiences :) Thanks **Stephanie*
I loved L&D actually! I find that you either love it or hate it!! haha. Yeah...if you like fast paced then thats awesome!! You have to be a certain kind of person to be good at that...and they are kinda rare so embrace it!!! I love you watching! Thanks : )
I had to be up that early Michael!!!! Even on non-clinical days I have to get up for workouts (track/cross country)! haha Feel bad for me...do it!!! haha
Sometimes I dont know how I do it either... I guess I just have to take it one class, one day, on assignment at a time...ya know....and sometimes I don't get everything done...ya know...and its good to remember that its not the end of the world. Everyone gets that bad test grade, shows up to clinical without a penlight, or forgets a homework assignment. Life goes on. : )

12-hour shifts are not harsh because that's how you will be going to be scheduled as an RN... here in the US at least.
