ive got the nokia 5230 touch and its so sick u get a free sat nav maps with the phone so you can choose it 4 walk or drive its so sick lol my vote is 6680 because its goes quite good then the n95
Does anybody know the ringtone on the Nokia 6680 that sounds like a jazzy gramophone with possibly a sax over it, it last like 10 seconds. if you kno that would be very helpful. strange qustion yes, but i have my reasons :) thnks
Nokia 6680 is a great phone, I've had this phone for years & its Still Working, As for N95 i have had three of them in a Year & they have all Got Faults. Nokia 6680 Rocks.
How to install that software into mobile phone,i have TomTom on the computer but don't know how to install into phone, can someone explain that...Thanks:))
you could simply transfer it via bluetooth or via USB port from your PC to your cellphone just copy and paste the application to the cellphone directory found on "mycomputer". np =P
You CAN use tomtom 6.02 on the n95 i hav had no problems whatsoever with tomtom 6.02 only thing is u need an external gps reciever. I am usin a 4gb micro sd card? did u install the sis file to ur phone memory or ur memory card? The N95 is a good phone bar the fact it does crash every now and then. But im happy with it
It certainly sucks in this video but I have commented that by removing POIs the performance improves, unfortunately not to the 6680 standard but it is acceptable. I now use my N95 over my 6680 for TomTom all the time.
Are you struggling to connect to an external GPS receiver using a Bluetooth connection, or are you struggling to connect to the N95's Internal GPS receiver?
If you are trying to do the latter (internal GPS) then forget it until a new version of TomTom is available as the N95's internal GPS receiver is not supported in TomTom 6.020 and earlier versions.
im planning to buy either a NOKIA 6680 or a NOKIA 5300... of course, the 6680 is better, but they say it sucks.. it freeze often or reboots often.. is this true?
I was very happy with my 6680 for two years but it did occasionally reboot when I was running TomTom and somebody called me. Not only did I miss the call but I also got lost!
i had the nokia 6680 and it turned off and freezed constantly plus one day i turned it on and said it failed to boot i was so annoyed it was a great phone:(
wow...I'm currently using a 6682, didn't know GPS software worked so well with it. Wait a minute, the US version doesn't have 3G so will this run slow then?
I have to say that I'm really unpleasantly surprised about the n95 performance with tomtom, as it was going to be my next phone. I'm used to tomtom 5 on 6680 and it really works well on the phone, shame it isn't the case on n95.
To be honest - I had huge performance issues with TT5 on 6680 after uploading Speed Camera POI-s, but after opening it with some poi editor and saving back it runned smooth again.
??? I think tomtom "optimazation" not so good on N95 thats all... N95 is very fast, include 300 Mhz processor , try run Nokia N95 navigation on 6680 dude...
Hmmm weird. I no longer have my N95, sold it because the battery life was rubbish. I'm getting another though as I've found a double capacity battery now.
When I had tomtom running though it was far faster then that. Not as quick as the 6680 but very useable. Could it possibly be the memory card? Did you try formatting the card through the phone?
Hey mate i noticed this too, my 6630 is WAY faster and accurate then the n95. Fingers crossed TomTom will do update to sort this issue and maybe internal GPS.
And to the guy who made the stupid comment, are you retarded?
Thank you bellendbellend for your insightful comment. I'm curious, how did you come across this video? Did you search for "tomtom n95" or "how to aveliate boring bum sex"?
(I'm not claiming to be the first person to discover this, it's just that I've never come across this suggestion when looking for N80/N95 TomTom performance tips, but I'm sure this one is out there)
...that removing all POIs from your current map improves performance to a usable level, approx 5 frames per second. So for all of you who do not rely on speed camera warnings (blast!), here's the short-term answer.
Are you using the internal GPS or bluetooth? Its possible that TomTom is hogging the resources on the phone making it difficult to switch between the GPs/BLuetooth(Navigation) and TomTom processes - Its probably a Bad app, I will wait for TomTom to bring out an official N95 version before investing in this fone
It runs badly during real navigation using the bluetooth receiver and also during the demo navigation with bluetooth switched off.
I don't think that resources are being hogged, but I do agree about it being a bad app. I've read on other forums that a new release will be made available that is N95 compliant. Hopefully that means fast, portrait/landscape switchable while running, uses built-in GPS, menu options in the right place, etc.
I asked TomTom why the N95/N80 was poor compared to the 6680. Their response:
The answer is rather simple. The N95 is not a compatable product. Navigator 6 has not been tested to work with the N95 unit and this is why the performance seems so poor.
On the other hand, the N80 is compatable and performance on that device should be of a high standard. If you are having problems on the N80 then please provide us with similar footage and we can further investigate your problem.
1) How does Nokia Maps work on your N95? Does it work like your 6680? In fact, as you may know Nokia Maps is beta now and final version is going to be released soon.
2) I know it may sound ridiculous but if you really navigate instead of simulating, it may work properly (1% or so)
damn this is bad news, cause i was planning on running Tomtom on my N95 as soon as the internal GPS was being recognized by Tomtom.... i hope a solution for both problems (internal GPS and performance) is coming soon!

This is demo, so you don't need GPS signal available, and 6680 can use bluetooth external module.

i dont understand why its smoother on 6680.
i had this phon one time and it was sooooooooooo slow in everything.
n95 is much faster!
maybe its because tomtom dont uses the graphics hardware acceleration of the n95 ?

Who said that 6.02 would not work on the N95?
matthewrleech 4 years ago
It would be a more fair comparison to have TT 5 running on both.
I have a medion satnav with TT5 and the instructtion I got for that said not to install TT6 on it or it will run slow.
Have you tried TT 5 on the n95?
dtrmad2004 4 years ago
TomTom 5 is not available for Symbian 6v3 (N95), and TomTom 6 is not available for Symbian 6v2 (6680), so this is as fair a comparison as we can get.

1) Nokia Maps runs extremely well, i.e. fast and a smooth frame rate. Google's MGMaps also runs fast and smooth.
2) The N95 runs just as badly during navigation as during the demo route, but have you ever tried filming two phones while driving?
However, see my next message...

No funny business going on here, I honestly wanted the N95 to perform well.
Please read the video description for more info.
If anybody has a suggestion for improving TomTom's performance on the N95, do tell!
Note that no other apps were running.
Phone was in 'offline' mode.
Fast memory card in use (Sandisk Ultra II).
It was even muted, the sound is coming from the 6680.

Thank you! That is awful performance on the part of the N95

It's only fair that I enter a follow-up comment here:
Take a look at youtube. com/watch?v=WSiADOfoPro
I found that by removing ALL POIs from the TomTom map the N95 version runs better, but still nowhere near as well as the 6680 version.
