This song is good, but Stevie & his arrangement & singing style takes it up a notch. I love the double vocal of the two. The audio sucks....but it still good.
I'm a white guy, & not generally attracted to black women, but I could've loved on every inch of her, all day long-& all night too-for several days before I even thought about sleeping. Graceful, beautiful, soft, & sexy as hell. Such a great smile, great cheekbones, & so much love in her eyes. She's absolutely adorable. I love the encouraging little pats on the back she gives him while they're singing, too. To me this is everything a man could want in a woman. She's the highlight of this video!!
Er, this is not a Carpenters cover. It's a cover of a bank commercial jingle written by Paul Williams & Roger Nichols. Do a YouTube search for "Crocker Bank wedding."
@parachuteboi Just because you want to convince the world that the Carpenters wrote this song, that doesn't mean that the original, actual writers of the song couldn't receive credit. Both this rendition of the song AND the Carpenters' version are covers of a song written for a bank commercial. Sorry if that shatters your little world, but it's time to face facts.
@MiloDC The Carpenter's brought the song out of it's obscurity and were the first to record the song in it's entirity in a recording studio. THe other renditions copied their's years later, FACT. :)

@cube9887 Sorry!!! I appreciate Stevie's talent very much, but this is not one of his best pieces .... I love Lennon and even him has very lame songs .....nothing personal ...
Very amusing and Stevie made this song his own. It's hard to make covers that will do better than originals, including self-covers, too. Though I'm a Carpenters fan, I love this version. Yay, Stevie.
This is a great performance! Anyone who says otherwise, needs their head examined! You should see what he does after the next song! Please upload the rest!!!!!!!!
Love the original (carpenters) and like this! The carpenters version is sweet and melancholy and this version is sexy. I wish some current singer would cover this version just like this.
And listen to the bass riff throughout the song, and especially beginning 02:24. I actually think I like the bridge "sharing horizons" better in this song than in the orginal, and I love LUV the original version.
This Version is live...it is so obvious that they are free styling it....vibeing with the music..feeling it...ya taking it way too personal...they added soul to an already beautiful tune...enjoy please ...it is not the original it is a live vibe session...thank you
Yeah, she's struggling. Its a hard song to sing. All Carpenters songs are because of the unique tone of Karen's voice. Bad as it sounds, she is doing a good job, LoL She is a skilled singer. Very much so. Just not enough rehearsal time to get her voice to do what needs to be done. Listen close, when she sings a kiss for luck and we are on our way, the word "on" is nailed spot on. She does have a sense of pitch. One note nailed, and about 50 others that need work, LoL.
(cont.) Its not a race thing, or a certain 'level of musicality' thing, its just a rendition from an artist of a different genre who loved the song enough to cover it in their style. This happens all the time. Some will like it and not, no hard feelings.
Oh and guys.. this is how Stevie has always been, or at least his old style. Granted, there have been times he's had a different energy at other live events back then. But more often than not, this is the (live) Stevie I'm used to. I personally love the Carpenters and their music, but I have more of a passion for soul/motown side of music. So naturally I love the essence of this rendition. I think there are nuances in this (live) rendition that some of us just relate to more than others.

Not too many people can sing this song well. Stevie Wonder sounds really bad here, along whoever that woman is. Sonny and Cher tried it too, and it was bad, but not as bad as this version.
I can't understand how do you think that Stevie sounds bad in this version, for me this is heaven!!
And it's impossible to imagine Cher (Is she a really singer?) playing this song better than Stevie. Well, you have your taste (in listen bad music it seens..).
Heaven? HAHHAHA This irritating rendition is enough to give anyone who is unbiased an ear ache! If this is heaven, I'd rather stay buried in the ground! Either YOU have bad taste or just bad hearing.
Stevie Wonder is an excellent singer, but I don't know of one single person who thinks his voice is beautiful. In fact, on this song, his voice sounds downright ugly. Compare his to Karen Carpenter's voice, and you'll know what I am talking about.

Every singer has limitations, even great singers like Ella Fitzgerald..who also couldn't and shouldn't sing Stevie's signature songs. Karen stuck with what she did best, and she shined. Ballads are meant for singers with beautiful voices; Stevie Wonder simply does not have the voice for ballads.
There's no doubt that the show's producers made him sing this over-covered song but to say that stevie does not have the voice for ballads...Have a listen to his back catalog.
Even if he could he would not sing within his "Limitations". Also note that a number of his multiple grammys were awarded for the penning and singing of ballads.
Most of these T.V specials back in the day made artists (especially black artists) sing the most popular "white" songs to draw in viewers..wonderlove bitch!
stevie wonder has a very versatile voice, along with michael jackson. karen, stevie, and michael are my favorite singers, michael being first sorry to say!
