  • Very soulful! Stevie was feelin' that background singer though! Lol!

  • Beautiful version! Thanks for the upload!

  • This song is good, but Stevie & his arrangement & singing style takes it up a notch. I love the double vocal of the two. The audio sucks....but it still good.

  • Belongs to Karen.

  • Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Tupac Shakur, Christopher Wallace, Styles P, Pimp C All Gods in my book.

  • The bass player is playing as if it's his last tyme!! I LOVE IT!!

  • Essa era época que existia a TV Record, é uma pena que hj não existe mais!!!!

  • É o bom se torna classico, não vira moda, e dura eternamente

  • I'm a white guy, & not generally attracted to black women, but I could've loved on every inch of her, all day long-& all night too-for several days before I even thought about sleeping. Graceful, beautiful, soft, & sexy as hell. Such a great smile, great cheekbones, & so much love in her eyes. She's absolutely adorable. I love the encouraging little pats on the back she gives him while they're singing, too. To me this is everything a man could want in a woman. She's the highlight of this video!!

  • Hey man i'm frow Brasil. This group of girls was very famours band frow Brasil that was invited to sing with stevie.

  • Er, this is not a Carpenters cover. It's a cover of a bank commercial jingle written by Paul Williams & Roger Nichols. Do a YouTube search for "Crocker Bank wedding."

  • @MiloDC Seriously do you think if the Carpenters didn't publish the song first that anybody else would be doing it. get real.

  • @parachuteboi Just because you want to convince the world that the Carpenters wrote this song, that doesn't mean that the original, actual writers of the song couldn't receive credit. Both this rendition of the song AND the Carpenters' version are covers of a song written for a bank commercial. Sorry if that shatters your little world, but it's time to face facts.

  • @MiloDC The Carpenter's brought the song out of it's obscurity and were the first to record the song in it's entirity in a recording studio. THe other renditions copied their's years later, FACT. :)

  • So Beautiful

  • Lovely Song.

  • ruined the song.

    some songs demand restraint.

  • @relshdan Didn't ruin it for me. Some people like more than one version of a song.

  • My guess is that Dee Dee Warwick, Dionne's dearly departed younger sister, is singing lead with Stevie.

  • @skyavalanche I think it's Fred Sanford's sister in law, Esther!

  • Meu Deus Não acredito! estão julgando Mal o Stivie Wonder por uma apresentação feita com uma tecnologia de 40 anos atras, imagino o que vão dizer no futuro da lady Gaga e CIA!

  • Looks like they are fighting for the mic. But it sounds great!

  • give me karen anyday

  • Ahhhh shut up. You all wouldn't know real music if it walked up and bit you in the ass. Classic, anytime we see or hear something a little bit out the norm, everybody wants be a Clyde Davis!

  • who is that lady singing with him?is that mary wilson from the supremes?

  • @tiana1017 I was wondering the same thing

  • Well done, fantastic version, excelent musicians, great song!

  • FUCKING TERRIBLE

  • @paddy9i99 Yes. Stevie at his worst. Let's be honest people. Listen with your ears how bad this performance is.

I'm sure Stevie would agree and be embarrassed by this one.

  • @NOTMARBON My ears are working just fine. Feeling and Science can at times clash, but neither are really wrong.

  • @NOTMARBON you and paddy must both be musically inept...and colossal tools.

  • @NOTMARBON yeah...could use a bit of reverb on the vocals not to mention the overall quality is a bit trashy

  • @paddy9i99 like your mom in bed we should have used protection too bad i came in her and she gave birth to you

  • it gives me tears man!! it just sounds Greattt

  • Everything sounds better when it's been wonder-ized.

  • that bass is whoopin some major ass!!! i love my Stevie!!!!!

  • i love the vamp(tag) they added at the end. it would've been nice if he could've done it with Karen Carpenter.

  • My ears are bleeding-horrible,horrible rendition of a great song. And I like Stevie Wonder........

  • @cube9887 Sorry!!! I appreciate Stevie's talent very much, but this is not one of his best pieces .... I love Lennon and even him has very lame songs .....nothing personal ...

  • THIS is what you call REAL MUSIC!

  • Love the culotte dresses on the back up singers.

  • Wow, never heard this. Amazing cover. Stevie does excellent covers. I love his version of We can Work It Out by the Beatles.

  • hORRIBLE ....

  • @JohnLennon100: you've got to be kidding!

  • I think he married that girl. She co-wrote "Signed, Sealed and Delivered" with him.

  • LOVE IT! HAHA! Carpenters cover.. when the Carpenters covered it in the first place. Wow, peeps be silly :)

  • @davejstewart The Carpenters didn't "cover it". What are you talking about? The bank commercial?!

  • stevie adds an upbeat thrill to everything he sings

and holy shit that girl singing with him just kills it

  • Timmy your dad could see, this look was a good joke on his part. He is a great singer, too bad he didn't get the credit! Life would have been better.

Ask Elizabeth, she is supremely wise, she agrees!

  • Who is on the bass......he is my hero.....he is having a blast and making me dance like crazy

  • it's not Stevie, it's that girl singer that screws it up. she is so off-key. Stevie rules!

  • Stevie is unbeatable!

  • YOU'RE AN IDIOT

  • @Apsu72 I'm entitled to an opinion, Stevies okay, this cover is not, fuck off

  • Very amusing and Stevie made this song his own. It's hard to make covers that will do better than originals, including self-covers, too. Though I'm a Carpenters fan, I love this version. Yay, Stevie.

BTW, who's the lady singing next to him?

  • Pathetic pretty much sums up this performance and I like Stevie but he needed to leave this one to the Carpenters.

  • No you don't understand. Stevie kicked ass and ripped this song a new one!!!

  • What more can be said about Stevie that hasn't already been said? Words fall short :-)

  • haha awesome :D

  • This is beyond awesome. His voice, his soul....it's just incomparable. I do wish he had recorded this. Thanks for the vid!

  • this is awesome

  • the bass player is killing it.

  • very good version, too bad the sound isnt the best.

But no matter who tries to do this, they will be bested by The Carpenters... and no shame in that.

  • This is a great performance! Anyone who says otherwise, needs their head examined! You should see what he does after the next song! Please upload the rest!!!!!!!!

  • Tuliojazz, Fantastic upload...nuff said!!

  • alright stevie how 'bout "do you know the way to san jose"

  • q(⌒◎⌒)p \(⌒◎⌒)/ q(⌒◎⌒)p

  • I would've loved it if Stevie recorded this.

  • They should've given Stevie his own mic so this lady wouldn't have to keep GRABBING it from him! Geez!!!!!

  • This is the luckiest woman in the world.

  • Sorry, this version gives me a headache!!LOL!

  • Its a Paul williams song tho

  • The year should be 1971

  • Love the original (carpenters) and like this! The carpenters version is sweet and melancholy and this version is sexy. I wish some current singer would cover this version just like this.

  • And listen to the bass riff throughout the song, and especially beginning 02:24. I actually think I like the bridge "sharing horizons" better in this song than in the orginal, and I love LUV the original version.

  • still will never sound like this

  • im confused didnt the carpenters record this song in 1970? it says this was recorded in 68?

  • @lacesoutpalmer It was 1970.

  • This Version is live...it is so obvious that they are free styling it....vibeing with the music..feeling it...ya taking it way too personal...they added soul to an already beautiful tune...enjoy please ...it is not the original it is a live vibe session...thank you

  • I wish I was the girl in Stevie's arms!!!

  • Who's the girl beside him singing? She just can't carry a tune! MY EARS!

  • Yeah, she's struggling. Its a hard song to sing. All Carpenters songs are because of the unique tone of Karen's voice. Bad as it sounds, she is doing a good job, LoL She is a skilled singer. Very much so. Just not enough rehearsal time to get her voice to do what needs to be done. Listen close, when she sings a kiss for luck and we are on our way, the word "on" is nailed spot on. She does have a sense of pitch. One note nailed, and about 50 others that need work, LoL.

  • I think this is definitely the SEXY STEVIE.

    Oh I love him!

  • (cont.) Its not a race thing, or a certain 'level of musicality' thing, its just a rendition from an artist of a different genre who loved the song enough to cover it in their style. This happens all the time. Some will like it and not, no hard feelings.

  • Oh and guys.. this is how Stevie has always been, or at least his old style. Granted, there have been times he's had a different energy at other live events back then. But more often than not, this is the (live) Stevie I'm used to. I personally love the Carpenters and their music, but I have more of a passion for soul/motown side of music. So naturally I love the essence of this rendition. I think there are nuances in this (live) rendition that some of us just relate to more than others.

  • soul/motown music just puts me in the best mood. and i love it itself as well, the grooves they make. its great stuff.

  • 3:22 Stevie, you old smoothie.. hehe :)

  • I can listen to Stevie sing anything, even the Dictionary!!! His voice is beautiful!

  • hehe I do think the same!!

  • @motowninvestor he's simply a genius! that's all!

  • @motowninvestor True Dat, True Dat

  • Actually, I find this version rather annoying to listen to. Bring on the Carpenter's version!!

  • I can't understand how do you think that Stevie sounds bad in this version, for me this is heaven!!

And it's impossible to imagine Cher (Is she a really singer?) playing this song better than Stevie. Well, you have your taste (in listen bad music it seens..).

  • Heaven? HAHHAHA This irritating rendition is enough to give anyone who is unbiased an ear ache! If this is heaven, I'd rather stay buried in the ground! Either YOU have bad taste or just bad hearing.

  • As a musical director, this version is sublime

  • You're foolish and obviously have no idea what you're talking about. This performance is superb.

  • the Carpenter's version is way better. Karen didn't have to over sing a song to sound great...she had a one in a million voice!!

    RIP Karen!!

  • Stevie Wonder is an excellent singer, but I don't know of one single person who thinks his voice is beautiful. In fact, on this song, his voice sounds downright ugly. Compare his to Karen Carpenter's voice, and you'll know what I am talking about.

  • Im 95% sure it comes down to personal opinion but i get what your saying for sure.

  • if you were there you were change your mind in a second

  • Why? His voice only sounds ugly on recordings?

  • 4 sure in this!

  • stevie wonders is beautiful. it's obvious you're being bias, because of your lack of having an ear for a beautiful voice such as mr. wonder. you are surly tone deaf.

  • Yeah...that's it. I'm biased. I don't like black and blind people.

  • No, you're just stupid. Nothing you're saying is convincing anyone, because you're just ranting like a lunatic.

  • I do.

  • imagine karen singing higher ground or you have'nt done nothin' lol infact i bet she could'nt sing most of stevie wonders songs

all she can sing is ballads stevie can do those too btw

  • That's exactly right. Karen couldn't and shouldn't sing those songs , and she didn't, just as Stevie shouldn't sing "We've Only Just Begun." Every singer has limitations, even great singers like Ella Fitzgerald..who also couldn't and shouldn't sing Stevie's signature songs. Karen stuck with what she did best, and she shined. Ballads are meant for singers with beautiful voices; Stevie Wonder simply does not have the voice for ballads.

  • There's no doubt that the show's producers made him sing this over-covered song but to say that stevie does not have the voice for ballads...Have a listen to his back catalog.

Even if he could he would not sing within his "Limitations". Also note that a number of his multiple grammys were awarded for the penning and singing of ballads.

Most of these T.V specials back in the day made artists (especially black artists) sing the most popular "white" songs to draw in viewers..wonderlove bitch!

  • stevie wonder has a very versatile voice, along with michael jackson. karen, stevie, and michael are my favorite singers, michael being first sorry to say!

  • It takes a beautiful voice for this song to sound good; Stevie Wonder is a good singer, but he doesn't have a beautiful voice.

  • I agree

  • What does that mean, exactly? His voice is very beautiful to my ears.

  • jameson on bass

  • she was so flat this entire song lol

  • Wasnt this just last year??

  • love that bass

  • shes kinda flat in the beginning

  • wow that was awesome

  • so absolutely flippin cool! stevie rock it son. is it better to burn out or to fade away!?

  • wait a minute evry one has a song in their heart.....a compliment to the carpenters.....

  • I wonder who was playing bass like that in the 60s?

  • dont get me wrong but im a big stevie wonder fan but yeah you cant beat karen carpenters voice, Too beautiful. but yeah i love stevie wonder too

  • yes, stevie is a legend and i love him but...This is a song that NO ONE, NO ONE cant/should cover...NEVER. why? cause there IS NOT/NEVER WILL BE another KAREN CARPENTER.

  • Stevie is awesome! I have just done a re-make of this song on my new CD in a slightly different style. And also a Stevie tune (Overjoyed). Check it out if you can...I'm up on myspace ot Itunes. Just go to the myspace site and put a forward slash and then sandyzio to get to my page. Or just google my name. I hope you will take the time to check it out! Thanks!

  • Im sure its about 1971 but the camera was very out of date for that time.Makes it look alot older than what it is.

  • Brazilian TV...

  • Wow stevie you are the best, there will never be another like you, love you man

  • i think it´s actually 1971 ..

  • gracias tioooooooo

  • so much betta wiv stevie boy!
