1)knife crime is here to stay I am sorry to say there is no way of getting rid of it. Different Goverments measure "violent crime" differently, the UK include anything deemed as "violent" such as domestic violence, street fighting, gang warfare etc...our measure is very honest. the US stats I doubt are as honest an are varied across the states,"vacation states" change their stats.

Criminalising someone for carrying a knife is ridiculous, I mean the idea of someone serving 4 years for carrying a knife is a joke come on. The solution is increasing sentences for murderers not jailing potentialy innocent people.
We need to increase the police force for free. To do this we give a gun to every well educated, phycologically healthy and moral person. We should also teach civalry and help the poor.
Discipline is needed in UK, teenagers should be sentanced to 6 cuts with a cane every time they step out of line. Murder RATE has to be measured in murders PER 100 000 people.
Not raw murder numbers like you are doing right now.
The US has a much bigger population than the UK and consequently has much more murders. However its murder RATE is approaching that of the UK.

Violent crime means murder, rape, assault, robbery, etc.
UK murder rate per 100 000 is around 2 or 3 (and rising).
US murder rate per 100 000 is 5 (and dropping).
In a few years the UK will have a higher murder rate than the US if it hasn't already as this map illustrates:
