@pikabko1 For the first 23 episodes (or so) "Destroy Gallactor" was, in fact, used as the opening theme and "Gatchaman no Uta" was used as the closing theme. They switched the theme songs around and revamped the opening animation into the more customary version around the episode with the Giant Bowling Ball Mecha.

And see: this is 1972, when American cartoons were still censored and all 'happy happy joy joy', these guys were kicking real ass and KILLING people in the series. That Jason was a real ganster, torture and everything. And what did they do here? They took out all those parts to put that dumb robot making his lame jokes and comments so that the American kids wouldn't be 'affected'. And more than 30 years later, you compare kids in both countries and Americans are psychos compared to the Japanese!

BUT i remember tiny throwing soldiers over the edge of a ship into the sea, thus killing them. it took like 5 or 6 soldiers to even slow him down. i also remember mark or jason tossing someone out of an airplane. and yes, i saw sandy franks version in the 70's so , they didn't censor it ALL but most of it, yeah they did. it didn't stop me from LOVING the series though. especially princess ;)

I was 11 years old when BOTP premiered in the U.S. & now that I'm 23 episodes into its' original Gatchaman series, I suddenly feel as though a part of my childhood had been PLAYED. So nice to hear Jinpei/Keyop speak like a normal kid without that stupid stutter we American kids had to endure, then there's the chance to see Joe/Jason for the real badass that he is. As for Ken/Mark...well, it's especially nice to hear him speak without thinking about Casey Kasem's American Top 40 Countdown.

@slikkwon OK. Why?  I watched it, its pretty boring. I get that this kind of song isn't really liked by most US fans. It's very 70's, and very dated. And I will say there's other openings that have aged better(mazinger z and kamen rider V3 come to mind.) But at least its a real opening, unlike the battle of the planets one. Which doesn't have much of a opening song period and just uses random animation from the show. Also the narrator gets annoying.

Acutally, it was known as Battle of the Planets in the late 70's in America produced by Sandy Frank Entertainment. This was based on the Japanese original 1972 tv series G- Force standing for Gatchaman by Tatsunoko.
