  • calsonicSTi has it nearly right and I should know I wrote this parody of Frankie and Johnie in 1956. A version of it was recorded by The Spinners and through their magazine Spin they collect the royalties for me.

  • Stanley and Dora were lovers

They lived in the Tottenham Court Road

Livin it up at the Mecca

    Where the strawberry milkshake flows

    He was her Stan

    Great big hunk of man

Now Dora worked at the Pavillion

The best usherette at the flicks

She sold Stan a seat for one and nine pence

What was worth some four and six

  • Yet he's posh

    In his Macintosh

    Now Dora was quickly promoted

To the circle she rose in a dream

When who should she see but her Stanley

With the bird what sells ice cream

    Chucked her up

    For a six penny cup

  • Now fate took a ran for our Dora

And Stan and his Wall's ice cream

They got killed in the rush for the exit

When they played "God Save the Queen"

    God save our Stan

He's the only one who can

    And that's that!

  • Thanks for the comment calsonicSTi but that is the version that I have known since the early 1960s. I have read your version and like it as I hope you like mine.
