Happy New Year! I love this song and the way the children sing it. I also love the Yoruba clothing & headwraps/hats.
I just posted this video on my blog along with videos of 2 other African children's choirs. Google pancocojams Children's Voices: Three African Children's Choirs. It's a catchy song that I think choirs in the USA and elsewhere could easily learn. Thanks for posting the words but the screen cuts off the English translations. Help please!
You are right. It is Ile-Ife. These are children from the villages around Ile-Ife. None of them attend International Schools. The choir was formed to help raise funds to subsidize the care of poor children who come to the Adventist Hospital in Ile-Ife. So far they have raised more than $4,000 and helped subsidize the care of more than 100 pediatric patients at the hospital.
They look like kids you might find at any of the International Schools in Ibadan or Lagos, or the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, IITA, Ibadan. Too bad the owners of the videos do not say. On the other hand I can almost swear the background terrain -- the hills and the rocky outgrowths -- is straight from the Modakeke area of Ile-Ife. Looks very much like Ile-Ife.
