I was nearby for the Pan Celtic Festival in Kilarney, experiencing something very similar, with Clannad and the Whistlebinkies on the bill, in 1982 . There was then still much of the 19th century in the places I saw; sadly, a lovely atmosphere now almost all gone. (Dang-blastit cell / mobile phones and com-pee-yoo-ter thingies...)
