It just takes a lot of practice and finding your range. Some people can growl like this, some people can do high pitched black metal shrieks. It is important to find out what you can do instead of trying to make your voice sound the way you want it to.

i too can do this,but it takes practice,alot of training ur throat to do this. but remember its one thing to sing one song like this,its another thing entirely to do it several times in a row. im up to being able to do about 5 songs....with more training ill get it to 10-12.

This is definitely true, it is tough to sing like this for a whole set. I am very comfortable growling in the style of Amon Amarth, but I have problems maintaining high pitched screams for several songs in a row (like my At The Gates, Wintersun, Ensiferum, Kalmah covers).

I remember Johan saying that his secret to good vocals was watered down whiskey and potato chips. But I don't think you need them. You are REALLY good. I think that if you got a good EQ on your voice and maybe some reverb, it would sound intense. Nice!

Your highs are quite good. :) it sound a little bit like Petri's (Norther) voice. This cover is really great!

I have a problem with high pitched growl. I can use diaphragm when I growl, but only in low pitches. When I try to growl higher the sound comes from throat, and then when try to use diaphragm it sound like shit... but I practice only for a few months.

Practice often, but stop if your throat hurts. Drink lots of water. Turn the music up loud at first, until you get good enough to want to hear yourself =)

Actually, girls can and have become great screamers/growlers for lots of metal bands. Naturally you will have a higher pitched voice than most male singers, but with practice you can extend your range. Many times a girl's voice is better suited for high pitched screams than a male singer's voice. When I recorded this cover I had been practicing for about 2 years.

Well, its really hard to tell someone how to do it, but what is most important is finding your range. Also, it takes a lot of practice to get used to making these sorts of sounds come out of you. I have a couple of older covers on my page from when I used to be TERRIBLE just a couple of yrs ago.

Sorry to take so long to respond to your comment. I have found that just practicing a lot, never singing when your throat hurts or you are sick. Also, timing counts for a LOT when you are trying to cover a song. If you shifted my vocals in this cover over by an eighth of a second, it would sound like crap.

I have been growling for a few years as well. If you want to practice your higher notes, I found that listening to Dark Tranquillity and trying to hit Mikael Stanne's notes helped me. Good vocals though. I can tell you learned mostly from Amon Amarth's style? I mostly try and learn from Jon Nodtveidt of Dissection's style. To each his own, keep it metal \m/
