  • Watch the #1 Official Trailer in HD (1080p) here: youtube. com/watch?v=mfI4hK9I2k0

  • This movie is SO SICK!!!! love it dude.

Going to Australia for college in July, So Stoked!!

  • this move is great i love it :)

  • my opinion on this film is mixed at 3 hours or ten reels, it's pathetic, Luhrman had vision, but he wasn't organized, when doing voice over you need a very organized structure, and it needs to be from that character's point of view, if this film were recut it would be the australian equivelent to Lonesome Dove.

  • Just finished year 12 and I still don't know shit about my own country. As people below have said, all I've learnt is how I should be feeling guilty for what I did to Aboriginals. Our education system really needs a revamping.

  • I don't feel guilty at all. When cavemen are suddenly confronted with the 19th century, things are bound to get ugly. Inevitablity is a bitch.

  • this is the best movie in the world and your pictures rock too!!!! thanx!!!!

  • I'll have to rent this movie sometime. My World History class barely talked about Australia, perhaps only bringing up mention about the penal colony and the attempts to assimilate the Aborigines.

  • It is a great movie one of the best in a really long time.

I grew up in London to stories of the war and the fight for freedom.

This movie was simply eye opening I never knew that Australia had been bombed and the Japanese landed there.

My Mum told me the story of getting up in her sleep and going out to plant potatoes in the garden.

Yes guess due to the war she was a sleepwalker.

Thought I would share a story of the war years with you.

That was in 1942 if I remember correctly.

  • Thatskinda sad, because in Australia, our general history classes go into some depth about American History.

  • Definitely do so. I learned a lot that I certainly didn't learn in school. Most World History classes tend to gloss over Oceania and focus mostly on Europe.

  • I love this movie, each to their own , brilliant film, and Hugh phew !!!♥♥♥♥

  • this Film made in Australia and USA

    say in wikipedia :-S

  • I don't give a shit what peple say. This was an amzing picture. Robbed at the Oscars! It was stunning and the performances were amzing all round! Nicole is in top form no mattter what dick head jornalists say. As an actor i know we'd all kill to have her talent. Love everythng she does. Australia was amazing xoxox

  • No offence but you obviously don't know what you're talking about! Sure, it didn't take in as much as they thought, what hyped up movie does??? It is an amazing story and it grossed nearly half a billion dollars!!! It was spectacular!!! Don't comment Australia bad again...

  • I do agree it is a great movie but in this us it made a little less then $50 million and the production budget was $130 million luckily it did very well internationally and puller in $161 million so once again I loved the movie but it did flop state side

  • How'd it flop? 161 - 130 = 31 million. Seems like a gain rather than a loss.

  • Coz studios get only half of the movie's gross which means they got 1/2 (221) = $110 m approx against a $130 m budget which is a loss.

That however doesnt say anything about the quality of the movie. This was a old fashioned but extremely enjoyable and touching romantic epic.

  • Dude you're not Australian, we get told the story about Australia since we are young children, many of our relatives died and wrs and you probably couldn't understand about the stolen generation, sure the characters maybe fictional but the events, the place all happened. And that's why alot of people over seas didn't get it.

  • who played Nullah?

  • Brandon Walters

  • great trailer.. awesome editing and theme music :)

  • Fuck you fucking retarded, and stop posting the same fucking nonsense in every Australia board in any language, you stupid moron!

  • they picked up great actors for the film, I think

  • This is the best picture of the year (in years, in fact), I got really MAD when I knew it's not even among the nominees for the Academy Award :-(

  • Same here - it's my most favourite film of all time - I was swept away with it's magic!

Baz Luhrmann is a genius, and Nicole Kidman was breathtaking as Lady Sarah Ashley! One of the most underrated films of all time, I think!

  • Maybe not my favourite of all time but I mostly agree with you, curdey, and it's certainly my fav N. Kidman flick --I prefer H. Jackman though, he's the breathtaking one for me, ya know, lol, but she shows in this movie what a great actress she is, she, as well as the picture and everybody who worked in it, deserved much more recognition IMO.

Maybe Americans have something against aussies...

  • WHAT THE HECK IS THIS ABOUT!!!!!!!!

  • this film is beatiful!!i love it!!!

  • Those boys fought and died just same as any US or Brit soldier did, and for the same basic cause, so they deserve our respect period. Doesn't matter how many there were.

  • yeah nice coment man

  • Just an observation, but I served with some Australian troops over in iraq back in 03 and 05 and I am proud to call them our ally, they are good soldiers. Plus you gotta remember, Australia is almost as big as the US, But has only 21 mil people compared our 300 mil as of 07 so take that back the 1940's it's a lot less. Bottom line, thousands of aussies dying is a big deal to them. They fought to protect their land from being attacked and who wouldn't?

  • it's such an amazing movie !!!

  • As for this movie, history beautification seems to be terrible.

The aborigine was not such handling in those days. Australia refused the entrance of the black corps of U.S. forces in those days.

And deterioration of Nicole Kidman is intense.

Even a smile is a difficult performance for her.

  • That's only a half truth, the Australian govt quickly changed that already outdated policy and welcomed black GI's into Australia during WW2. As for indigenous Australians, thousands of Australian Aborigines served in both WW1 and WW2 in the Australian army, and no, they weren't drafted, they volunteered. And unlike in the US forces, they weren't segregated and fought alongside white Australian soldiers. You're just bitter because we and our yank friends kicked your arse in WW2.

  • Thank you for the explanation.

However, we surrendered to military power of the United States to be precise. In fact, there was no power to kick our arse in Australia.

    Military power at that time

    1.The United States

    2.Germany

    3.Japan

    4.Britain

  • Wrong again, on board USS Missouri, Tokyo Bay, 2 September 1945, Australian General Sir Thomas Blamey signed the official Japanese surrender document on behalf of Australia after General Douglas MacArthur, Supreme Commander, Allied Powers, signed it. The following ships of the Royal Australian Navy were present in Tokyo Bay for the surrender ceremony: HMAS Shropshire, Hobart, Warramunga, Bataan, Nizam and Napier. There were many other ceremonies where Japan surrended just to Australian forces.

  • Of course America were the big guns, and we will never forget what they did to help us, but tell the thousands of Australian soldiers who fought and died in Papua New Guinea protecting this country from an unprovoked, cowardly, bloody war started by Japan that they only had 'a small role'. Though the world has moved on and Japan is now a friend, you should not try and gain any glory from anything the Japanese military did in WW2 - millions of innocent people died on both sides because of Japan.

  • I understand the outline of your opinion.

I want to say only a little at the end.

A past war did not occur for simple reasons. The war occurs because of complex

    various factors.

  • I have some great ideas for a movie about good old USA. For example something about slavery in the southern states or as the good americans went out to fight in vietnam.........or my best one: how the good americans treated the indians....aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh there are so many good ideas. I could get an oscar for the best screenplays of all time..........

  • because it's about AUSTRALIA not USA

and if you have a better talent than Nicole Kidman, why is SHE in Hollywood and not YOU.

    OH SNAP!

  • "Australia" is in my top 5 greatest films of 2008!

  • How is that even possible?

  • hahaha they've twisted the story at the start so much

  • Awesome movie, one of the very best I've seen this year

  • It was a beautiful film, I'd say it was almost as good as "Gone with the wind".

  • How can you possibly compare this film to such a masterpiece?

  • Yes it was a very good movie! That kid deverses an Oscar! I nearly died each time he rode up on horseback.

  • Aaahhhh, finally a movie of that kind again. I just love that kind of movies. A bitchy lady and a rough cowboy........with a biceps every girl dreams about. Ok, full of cliches, but just GOOD. Oh I loved the chemistry between them. It was like an earthquake when he appeared on the screen. I think his wife is a lucky woman......

  • This was a truly brilliant movie. As Baz Lurhmann said, this movie is not about "Australia" itself, rather it's about a story within Australia, like "Casablanca". I think that the name of the movie was a mistake... as it led a lot of people to believe that it was "all about" Aus. Casablanca is a much smaller place so a small story fit (also as in "A Town Like Alice"). Australia is a vast continent and a small story doesn't really work. Apart from that a truly BRILLIANT Film! VERY VERY Well Done!

  • It will touch you straight in the heart.Kudos to hugh jackman, nicole kiddman, and the little boy nulla brendon walters..They;re brilliant actors! This movie deserve an academy award and oscar!!!felicia ,melbourne

  • But most importantly the messege of this movie is ..never take anyone or anything for granted, love and respect everyone around you.History shapes us today.

  • The movie also shows the japanese invasion #world war 2 ...and what goes on during that period. This is a well researched movie i must say...it is History....when u watched it..you feel like you step back in time...like ur apart of the movie.

  • The story about the stolen generation (the half cast child half aboriginal half white is true! ) they took the child away from their mothers because they dont think the child belongs anywhere bcause of being half cast.

  • Kudos to the script writers and the producers too! They did a good job in bringing this movie to life! The movie sets back in the 1940s ...back in the days...aboriginals are being outkast from the society.

  • Kudos to Baz Lurhmann ! he did an absolutely brilliant job in making this epic movie! well done! I cried too :( everyone in the cinema cried (incl th guys sitting next to me,infront of me and behind me).

  • It was an amazing movie and it is best to see it the theater because the scenery is just beautiful. I loved this movie, and the best I have seen in a while.

  • Is this movie any good? Please be honest. I have an interest in seeing this, but I've heard a lot of rumors that it wasn't very good. Can someone please elaborate?

  • Its really good.

Alot of people in Australia dont really like it because it has faults views of Australia and isnt historically correct

    But I loved it

  • Parts of the soundtrack, about 0:40 is stolen! That soundtrack is from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!!!

  • oh look at the kangaroo just jumping soo beautiful....BANG! hahahahaha!!! best part. well one of the best parts.

  • AMAZING!!!! I loved this movie and Baz is simply a genius.

  • This is such a great movie shame that it didnt get off big in america it was really well done and brilliant

  • I have seen this movie and I absolutely LOVED it :D

  • this is one of the best movies i have seen ever. The critics are morons.

  • The scene 1:10-1:11 are not in the film. Sad it would have been amazing!

  • I love how Australia is nicknamed Oz, & Baz worked that right in w/the Wizard of Oz mentioning, the whole you've got to dream, & putting that adorable little boy in the flick as Nullah. He stole some screen time away from my man Hugh, hate to say. It was a super film & I'd see it again!

  • OMG! they both look so sexy and great together! Cant wait to see this film!

  • Nothing wrong with a we bit of historic content. How many people outside Oz knew about Darwin?

  • im from Canada and I had no idea australia got bombed by japon

  • you mean japan

  • I'm french canadian alright atleast i make the effort

  • lol sorry

  • While everyone one wants to see twilight, I want to see Australia!

  • me 2 im gonna b so happy when everyone walks out of twilight witha frown on they're face

  • Yeah

    I know I did

    But Australia was really good!

  • lol

  • I'd want to see this right away if Nicole wasn't in it. Sorry but she's wooden and isn't really a great actress. I'd like to have seen Cate B it.

  • I just saw a new trailer of this movie with the Pirates of Carribean theme track and editing style...are they so desperate to make people think this is another Pirates movie?

  • You sound so shallow comparing this to Pirates of the Carribean. This is an epic World War II movie. Who cares about how they sounded and edited the trailor.

  • WAT? this has absolutely nothing to do with pirates u stupid little prick

  • Yeah thats pretty awkward.

  • god hes sooo sexy!!! jackman is hott!!

  • im so seeing this! i caint wait along waiting foe the twilight movie!!!!

  • OMG! Im aussie and cant wait to see this movie - Its nice to see another side of WW2 being shown other then American and German...

  • I so agree!

  • I dont get the story

  • then you fail at life

  • Hey do you know how the biritsh ALWAYS go on about us aussies saying the word bloody it's just our sland I got 3 WORDS FOR YOU POMS: GORDAN FUCKING SAMSAY see you think were bad for swearing for saying bloody go tell him that and see what he says

  • ohh mann rofl

    its gordon RAMSEY

    whew thats funny

  • so where are the flying monkeys?

  • Why are they using the music from Kenneth Branagh's Henry V (St. Crispins Day Speech) and Hamlet trailer?? Love that song!

  • Do I smell Oscar bait? im looking forward to this one.

  • I want to see it.

  • Yeah. The movie actually looks good. It shows a different side to Australia. I wish this country had stayed that way. Unless you live in the country, not many people even like woodchopping anymore, and some kids I know were amazed when they were told that milk doesn't really come from plastic bottles and/or cardboard cartons in the first place!

But still, I will soon move to the U.S in a few years for work.

  • And yes, before you ask, I am using a friend's account.

  • And I just signed in to my own. I appologize for misleading you. But I do that. I am a living, breathing personality calculator. 10 years as a Forensic Investigator does that to you.

  • Haha yay so exciting, and to the person who posted this, love your username! Moulin Rouge! is one of my fav movies ever!

  • I can't wait for this movie to come out!!!

  • I really hope that this movie is not cliche like that. There is a lot riding on it as far as tourism is concerned and Aussies will be pretty picky about it I reckon. But I am still really looking forward to it and I have faith in Baz the Brilliant. That Henry V music is so amazing.

  • I come from/live in australia and you REALLY shouldn't judge us like that. we're not all "yeaa g'day mate put a steak on the barbie" etc. You obviously know nothing about Australia. No i don't have excessive pride for australia but even so you should respect baz luhrmans perspective about it. I'd like to see you do better

  • um hello it doesnt even matter if we talk like that anyway- what it got to do with you, we can talk however we bloody want.. and how do u even know how it portrays australians you havent even seen the movie and anyway this it does show our beautiful nature of course its not all gonna be like that - its not a documentary!

in conclusion- ur a bloody idiot

  • I was joking. I am from Australia. I was testing you. I know, I'm sick. But, testing people like that sure does give me an idea of your personality: brittred, you are a genuine human being; kirkywirky99, you respect authority too much. You really should loosen up a bit; and pinkcleo, you need anger management and should really stop swearing. It's a bad habit. You are a racist pig! Don't argue; please be truthful and tell me that you have never used a racial slur in your life. God shall judge.

  • Lol, hes being sarcastic.

    Fools.

  • This movie looks great

Good on ya mate!!!! for posting it

  • Big, epic, romance......I haven´t seen that kind of movie in ages! I love it!

  • The music is from Henry V....

  • oh my gosh!

the extended scenes are like "woahhhh!" i cannot wait for this movie!:))

thanks for posting...haven't seen this before.
