  • I wish rock stations would at least play the song "Not Now John". This album is quite underrated.

  • @ThatKidFromVancouver

Fully understand your point of view. Though your friend``s reason for liking hiphop for not being old is a bit not well thought through, to say the lest, hiphop also, or it used to have a meaning. what I am trying to say is don`t fight over music.. good taste of a fourteen year old. keep it up.. consider Mike Patton

  • He drank himsef to death trying to forget, but I saw those images, burned into my mind as if I was there with him. Insidious, the things the government will do to get you to take your eyes off the prize, whilst they steal the rug from under you. We know who controls the wars, and it is up to the warriors to stay at home & fight the good fight, not go abroad & kill, in the name of blind patriotism. Families need their warriors home with them.

  • Roman, I am sorry for your lost innocence. Im a first hand witness to the the survivors guilt my grandfather felt at shoting his yellow brothers in the USA's trumped up war. As I child I could look into his tortured soul and see the faces of the twisted remains, of the people who were trying to protect their families from invaders. His ego hurt greatly when he learned of the false words of "our" government, and what the Catholic preists did to his children while he was off fighting the war.

  • What I love about Pink Floyd is the magnificent soundscapes they create and the great time they make allowing the music to breathe. Rick Wright on stuff like Cirrus Minor, Great Gig, Us and Them, Let There Be More Light says a hell of a lot about why I love this band.

And yet, this is my absolute favourite album by then. Roger pours everything he has into. His singing, David's guitar playing and Nick's drum are at their peak. Shame there's no Rick, but as it is, it is literally perfect.

  • there was no time to whine and mope about

  • I've always thought this was such an underrated album. Roger's lyrics on this one cut right to the core....

  • i was fighting with my friend today because i love pink floyd and he likes rap and shit. i told him one of the reasons i liked pink floyd is because the songs have meaning and in a way i can relate to what they are saying. he sais he likes his music because its not old. please dont let this band, or any of the good ol bands die. im 14 and all i listen to is pink floyd all the time! keep the spirit alive!

  • After watching Pink Floyd night on the Beeb last weekend I thought I'd give this album another chance after not listening to it for years. Still don't like it much. Why did Roger forget how to write hooks and melodies? If it wasn't for Gilmour,The Final Cut would put me into a coma. Where's me copy of Ummagumma.........

  • @20thesoul You still cannot deny Waters lyrical genius, in full display on this album as much as any other...

  • Pre-1973 Pink Floyd is still untouchable and the best of all, in my opinion...

THE FINAL CUT is absolutely depressing!

  • @DerrickthePinecone

:) absolutely depressing but brilliant album, remember at the time of this album was wrote..... was a depressing time ^ ^

which makes floyd evan more so brilliant..... each of there albums always reflect the times at which it was made

  • i remember when this album first came out it was my favorite

  • As a decidedly rat faced kid, I memorized every word of this album. While I rarely listen to it anymore, I can still recite every word cold once I get started. Good times, good times...

  • @KingOfWhiteTrash1

    me too ^^

  • a magnificent album

  • Ultimately one of the greatest anti-war albums ever written. No disrepsect to U2.

  • Though I am addicted to these tunes, this clearly wasn't one of Floyds best albums. I think it was because of the fact that This was made during the bands least happy years :(

  • @KiliFili13 what do you mean 'clearly'? this was a very underated album

  • @billybobmacguyver It kills me that this album is so under-rated. It is, without a doubt, my favorite album of any band, of all time.

  • The very first time I heard the album I was disappointed. Then I was a child, now I am man and there's no other way to describe it other than as a litterary masterpiece aswell as a musical. "The Sun is in the East / Even though the Day is done / Two Suns in the Sunset / Could be the Human Race is Run". Go fuck yourself, TS Eliot. Nobody has described the end of the world in a better way.

  • this is actually the 4th track on this album, i have the first ever printed LP

  • @XEMOitionalX When the Tigers Broke Free was added to the remaster.

  • @XEMOitionalX they added the tigers broke free at #4 in the 2004 re-release.

  • @billybobmacguyver This is actually probably my favorite Pink Floyd album. Can't really explain why but it just is. I do love the majority of it all though.

  • This song sounds spooky and menacing, and it is saying don't be a damn fool.

  • One of the most underrated albums ever, and probably one of the greatest war-themed, political albums of all time...

  • This album is why I am happy to live in a peacefull part of the world!

  • @mip93 didn't realise one existed....where is it? I'm looking to emigrate...

  • @SneakyShark switzerland? germany?

    at least today ^^

  • @mip93 ah yes...for now...let's hope the Swiss don't discover any oil eh?!

  • people who dislike this album never lost anything or was damaged by any war or politics thank god for pink floyd

  • @xHauntedxByxYoux What the fuck?

  • this song is amazing to me cause it sounds like the spirit of the "Wall"

  • @billybobmacguyver I appreciate what you say about this album, But it's very much a Roger Waters Album performed by Pink Floyd, Dave Gilmour I think has said that most if not the musical ideas were leftovers form the Wall, and I believe insisted on his name being remove from the credits. However I like Final Cut and is one of my favourites, but it was the Final Nail in the coffin for one the best bands of the 60s & 70s.

  • if u think this album was mediocre then i think your an idiot. This album was if not just as than more deep then any of the other albums. Sure theyre not as trippy but this album is fantastic.

  • those of you who don't get this album should shut up and be grateful for it - and those who do should know what I'm talking about.

  • Ive been a floyd folower since my early acid years, this album is the most fucked up,brilliant , ever lasting shit going on......to beautiful for words, no, its no longer politicaly correct, but there was a time when it was alright to defend your country,...long time ago, like 15 years........

  • Yes, one of the best Pink Floyd albums.

  • This is a peek inside the broken soul of some of the solders you owe your freedom to. If you fully understand this song, you understand the silent veterans pain.

Thank you for your service and a silent prayer that no one has to follow in your footsteps.

    Roman Johnston

  • @romanjohnston great insight and appreciated gratitude

  • @romanjohnston The schoolteacher's tale is very sad and explains a lot why he was so hard on the children.

  • I would bet that members of Pink Floyd would reflect on some of their past work and probably say to themselves or each other "maybe that wasn't so great".But their artistic genius kept churning and manifested itself in the like form of The Wall. And even they (Pink Floyd) probably marveled at how good it is.They should.I would.

  • my favorite part...

    and there is something

    i've locked away.

a memory it is too painfull

to withstand the light of day.

  • Real Pink Floyd fans don't have a favourite Pink Floyd album they like all of them

  • @JReed1985 That's bullshit, there is an era after Piper at the Gates, but before Meddle, that is genuinely bad. Their work after The Final Cut also sucks. I don't have to blindly like everything they've ever done to call myself a fan, sorry.

  • @PointThree just my opinion mate all I'm saying is I don't have a favourite album I kind of find that fan like really. You can call yourself a Pink Floyd fan if you want.

  • @JReed1985 My favorite album is... all of them.

  • @WormYourHonor64 exactly my favourite too

  • @Kalaro78

The thumbs down came from an accident during ear-gasmic spasms.

  • One of the most unfairly criticized rock albums ever. I love the anger and intensity, I love how straight-to-the-point it is, I love how it perfectly expands upon what The Wall started with the tragedy of war and the often empty rewards of the sacrifices of brave soldiers who fight for a better tomorrow.

  • its a top pink floyd albumn, the stuff roger did with his first 2 solo albumns

  • This album is the best they put out.....Lyrics for sure cant be beat. Vibe and meaning makes it the best.

  • This song is amazingly insightful !

  • I really love this album - one thumb down - How did that happen..???

  • this is one album where as soon as i try to pick out a favorite, another stands out with a 'what about me' look. then the others join in chorus with it. if this were one of the questions given at the bridge of death in Monty Python's Holy Grail-instead of what your favorite color is-i wouldn't make it. i would flip flop too fast between them all. especially this one, Paranoid Eyes, Two Suns in the Sunset, The Gunner's Dream, etc

  • This is easily one of the saddest albums I have ever listened to

  • My favorite Pink Floyd song. And that's saying a lot.

  • @billybobmacguyver Dude, this is one of their best records, highly underestimated. They really found their stride here... I have been a fan since the late 70s, and this record has always spoke to me. It's about real stuff - things people should pay more attention to today.

  • @billybobmacguyver

    >implying comfortably numb should even be for radio

  • i love this song becaus of the power and the anger

  • Left overs from the wall? Have you lost all reason? This album is forged on the back of a vehement distaste for war ... the closest comparisons it has to the wall is that it is by the same group and conveys their typically strong political message.

  • @vernonpage I think it sounds very much like The Wall for the fact that it has a very "opera" sound which Roger Waters does very well. David Gilmour is more of an Obscured by Clouds and Meddle type guy.

  • This is the first time that I have listened to this album. So far it's great.

  • this is as good as the wall or better...i've been listening to this album since it came out

  • @187Blingy I think it's better, more focused and coherent.. I bought this album the day it came out when I was 13 and it's still brought a tear to my eye this evening.

    Powerful stuff

  • Comment removed

  • i love this song

  • EPIC SONG!

  • You can always know its Pink Floyd by there unmatchable sounds.

  • @aerobee58 x100 there is no other band like it!!

  • @aerobee58 Pink Floyd became famous because of roger waters period,we all know the ones waters wrote and they are the ones that stay in your head, his old stuff was total crap

  • If you actually listen to it, it's a very good album.

  • The Best of PF.

  • @billybobmacguyver besides, these songs didn't make "The Final Cut" for the Wall, which was the original intent for these, so anyone who says they aren't in line with Pink Floyds' other work is talking out their ass

  • @billybobmacguyver I wouldn't say they were at the lowest point in their prime...the lowest point of cooperation and cohesiveness indeed, but not their prime.

  • I'm very familiar with all their work and have to say this ranks with the best of it - including ABITW2! I think the problem is that this album really does cut to close to the bone - can dismiss most of their other messages as "teenage angst" etc., but this gets how you are as a grown up! been listening to them 20 years now (36 now) and I "get" this album more than ever (wish I didn't lol) always did get it, unless you "made it" you should too.

  • I bought this in the mid eighties when it came out, to much anticipation. I loved it then and I still do. The reviews were not great at the time, but then the music industry was busy with classic bands like Haircut 100 and Culture Club - serious musical / political statements missed the zeitgeist of that period. If you're looking for a lost classic, look no further.

  • i swear you could sandwich all of these songs into The Wall and it would all fit seamlessly.

  • @ZombieFish17 - this album is actually a sequel to The Wall: the story of the war continues here ...

  • @dadautube yeah to a degree it was more about the teacher than pink.

  • @dadautube its left overs from the wall

  • This song in particular has the sort of ridiculously high-level musicianship that Pink Floyd is known for... the combined keyboard/guitar breakdown near the beginning rivals anything else on their albums.

  • This sounds similar to Joy Division's Isolation. Regardless I do enjoy this song and album.

  • "Sweetheart, sweetheart -- are you fast asleep? ...Good

That's the only time that I can really speak to you

And there is something that I've locked away...

A memory that is to painful to withstand the light of day"

  • This is one of my favorite Pink Floyd Albums and this song is perhaps my favorite on this album.

  • The transition from One Of The Few to this is pretty awesome, sounds like it happens in a heartbeat.

  • This album proves again that Roger Waters was the true genius of the Floyd.

  • there is no bad pink floyd album

  • @Metallideth100 your right:)

  • epic!

  • album is truly magical i love pink foyd . pink floyd are true 100 percent unique ,its all pure, all heart! im so at one with pink floyd .

  • I'm so glad that I was shown such an amazing band when I was young. This truely shaped my music taste. Without this I might be listening to the shit put out now a days

  • i some glad i got this album before they screwed it up with "when the tigers broke free" i hate that version of The Final Cut

  • @evandylan Aren't both versions pretty much identical? Just one is remastered and has the extra song?

  • Yeah... I agree... These albums should be listened to as one long composuition...

  • agrees with lecou18 this song is from a bomber pilot "Of the gunners dying words on the intercom"

  • The bomb is everyehere. It is in our homes and beyond our walls. You will not need an intercom to hear it. By thought of it alone, it permeates our lives. As long as those deplorable missles stand beneath our soil, we all will pay to keep them shiny. 76% of the defense budget goes to maintaining and developing things that will never be used, while our troops are put in catastrophic situations with nothing to CTA.

  • just a thought anyone agree with this explanation i found? .. in the Wall, ...the father was on the intercom trying to send a message just before a bomb was dropped on him...and i think that the hero in this song is the man on the other side of the intercom

  • could well be true. the song the Final cut is meant to be an epilougue to the Wall. As I uderstand it the Song is about Pink. Some of the other songs are meant to be about the 'Teacher' and why he was so cruel. this song was originaly going to be called 'Teacher Teacher'

  • I cant find a satisfactory explanation for "the gunners dying words on the intercom" .. then it cuts to a recording of ..presumably, the gunners dying words on ther intercom.. . what is this recording? from a movie? from a battle or made in the studio?

  • The narrator in this song was a bomber pilot ("Eve now, part of me flies over over Dresden at angels one five" confirms this) and his rear gunner was probably blown out of his turret by cannon fire and thus "The Gunner's Dream" takes over.

  • Very well said. People typically don't care much for this album because they feel the other band members didn't get to have much say in it. A lot of people refer to it as Rogers first solo album! I love this album because it is much like The Wall. It didn't have many radio friendly songs as you said, but I love them all!

  • Several cuts are ones that were written for The Wall, but didn't make it in.

  • One of my favorites Pink Floyd's album..

  • Say everyone,Roger is in trouble for this album, cuts and slices all over the place on this one

  • one of the greatest albums ever!

  • I've never heard any post-Wall Floyd, but this song sounds like it was recorded during the Wall era. ^_^ With the same instruments.

  • i believe this album was throw-aways from the wall recordings. hence, the final cut. these songs didnt make it. isnt it amazing.

  • I'm not a huge fan of this album, but this and Post War Dream are very good songs.
