When you go through snow, it is very slick. if you'r tires meet a veichcles with a deep tread, you will likely lose control, because the heavier veichles build kind of wall around their tire

I've spun out with my fwd chevy even with snow tires the problem is there is no weight in the trunk it's the same as a pickup truck, i bought sandtubes and have never spun around since so to all you front wheel drive car owners spinning out get sandtubes then go and make your lane change with confidence, Have a nice winter

@TrabantDaniel I visited family there and drove down those exact roads, 4x4 f-150 with winter tires and its still very very slippery. Especially between lanes cause there's always more build up there. I had my run in with spinning out at 25mph.

This is a typical kind of accident cased by road salt. When the road is salted right before it starts to snow or while its snowing, the road becomes very dangerous. Its the same as aquaplanning in heavy summer rain, the only difference is that this is "slush" made by the road salt. Make it illegal to use road salt to anything else than "black ice". Road salt + snow is a very dangerous mix and have killed a lot of people. Remove the snow mechanicly, and NO salt! Leave the roads white and dry!

@kowal789 Well when I was going through driving school many years ago the instructor was a insurance adjuster who would travel and recreate some of the bad car accidents. He said that many times if they would have simply stayed in the ditch they wouldn't have either totaled their car or ended up hitting someone else. And when you think about it, it makes sense. All the forces acting upon the car can make things very unpredictable. And THAT can cause serious accidents.
