It's passages at 7:00 that always made me wonder why violin music never used 8va like piano does. I remember arguing with my teacher about that, becuase to me it makes no sense to read a bajillion ledger lines that make the staff look like graph paper.
@Lissbirds And I can gladly explain this. I play the violin and it would be much harder for me to read transposition via 8va like on piano than simply putting a lot of ledger lines. Because we have strings tuned in 5ths so we can only tranpose in 5ths effortlessly. When transposing in mind 8ths it is much harder because it involves different positions and different fingerings when compared to notation. And it is very confusing...
... because violinists tend to see "fingers" of left hand rather than notes. This way one can read sheets much faster. But it gets harder when it come to transposition. I hope i helped. :)
@Xyc1993 I played the violin, too, but piano was my first instrument, so maybe that's the difference in my case. I know about transposing in 5ths, but just the way my brain works, it would be easier for me to transpose and octave and then figure out the proper fingers. I suppose there's some habits that carry over into other instruments. (i.e. I also always had trouble keeping my fingers down on the fingerboard, which is definitely an influence from piano.) But thank you for explaining that!
