They have a long history of being warriors, and they (used to) always have to carry a knife with them at all times. The Brits used them during their 'ownership' of India, and some still serve in the British army to this day.

The Army has invested so much into these Sikhs to let them die by something not having to wear a helmet in combat. They should have to give up something.

I respect him for wanting to serve the country and I think the Dastar and beard are fine EXCEPT if he were to go on patrols and the sort. Clearly it's not much of a problem.

I appreciate what the Sikhs have to offer (this guy was supposed to be in my training company). I respect him for wanting to serve the country and I think the Dastar and beard are fine EXCEPT if he were to go on patrols and the sort. He should have to wear a helmet if he was to go in combat (patrols, misdions, etc.)

If you're a natural born citizen you will always be a US citizen no matter what happens or what you do, if you're naturalized you can be stripped of your citizenship and are only a citizen so long as you abide by your oath.

It is legal to carry a blade so long as it meets the length requirements and is single-edged. Kirpans meet both requirements and thus are not daggers. Sikhs arrested for "concealment" have been released without charge by and large. Further, the CA state assembly unanimously voted to include Kirpans in the training of officers but the Gov vetoed. Clearly it's not much of a problem.
