I could leave a smart arse comment like Tone Deaf King :) but I won't. His playing is not the issue. What he does, which is providing a great ability to hear tone is a great service. It helps in selecting and buying gear. Lots of people would argue that it does not compare to hearing an amp in a store. My experience is that a store is one of the worst places to audition an amp. Anyway thanks Tone King, you are great !!
i bought a jsa20h based on this review, thanks tone king. it sounds great through my line6 4x12 cab. i turned it up to 4 and it was loud as hell so yes it is definitely gig worthy even with another guitarist. the distortion on it is enough for hard rock but not metal except for old school british metal. i use a boss overdrive just to boost the solos thats it.
I own 1 of the few Soldano Atomic 16 made in the 90's....it still sounds great...it's sound is beyond compares..... can't find ANYTHING which matches up with it these days!! :/
Love what ya do TTK but I also can get feedback from a Pignose from 2 feet away. You never tell us what speakers and wattage rating you use.Isn't that important and part of the system chain?
@MrJohnnyDistortion1:15 in it says he uses his own guitar, with the head going into a 4x12 cab with vintage 30. That would be a 240watt cab and its mic'd with an sm57.
90% of vids with a cab with v30's g12t-75's or seventy 80's (just from my experience)
Thanks for the demo vid. Bought a JCA20h myself about a month ago and used your vid to help me make the decision. Hope to record something with it soon and will post it on my channel. Keep it up man!
Great Demo TTK, bro! I've been following your stuff for a while, and this is an aces demo. Percitance pays off. The miking was near perfect to my ears, and the flow of the demo was spot on. I think if you do more like this, the basis for comparison could be unrivaled.
Like the amp also of course. My teeth are sweating for the new Jet City 22H. I hope I'll have some money is all.
I've got one of this. SUPERB drive. Really good amp for the price. Used to play with a Z Route 66 w/ some pedals. After I discovered the Jet City JCA20h, I realized I could substitute the Z R66 for a "cheap" amplifier that can handle the job very well.
Well, when you're playing through a tube amp, the wattage is less about loudness and more about clean headroom. Loudness for a tube amp depends a lot on the speaker configuration. My cabinet is a huge 6x10, so its VERY loud with a relatively clean tone. If you're playing through a smaller cab, you may have problems keeping the signal clean at a decent volume, but I'd say you'd be good with pretty much any cabinet if you don't mind a little breakup.
@OniAkuma15 Have a look at the Ibanez TSA15h. It is a small head such as this one is, but it has clean tones as well as a built in TubeScreamer. So it should cover the bases. Not sure if it comes with a footswitch, but i'm sure they're available. And yes, it's a lower price amp as well. Good luck.
great review, appreciate the step by step approach and the level of detail you did, nice job. I just have to say this though, that is one of the most gawdawful ugly guitars I have ever seen, but it sounds great ;)
Tone king keep doing what your doing! I've just came into your videos and I will subscribe. I'm facinated with amps and I've learned so much from you already. Will you consider reveiwing an orange dual terror or maybe the Mesa boogie trans Atlantic. Either way thanks so much I'm glad your out there. Rock on tk!
offering an opinion since these have been out a little while now - I really think Jet City has made a HUGE impression on the market, with both quality & TONE. A new company that hits it out of the park right off the bat! GREAT JOB JET CITY (and TTK)
the bridge pick-up sounds really muddy... great amp though, tried one in person and i really like it! Not really what i'm looking for, cause i prefer a cleaner sounding amp and using pedals with that, but this amp ROCKS!
found it! and damn... I think I've found the tone... right when that amp just opened up with the presence it instantly got me thinking some GG tones X*D
I own a jet city jca20h, and I can certify that this soldano creation is without question a superb example of the finest amp DNA available to musicians at their listed price points. You would have to be an utter buffoon to not realize this. And, I've played them all, had them blow up during gigs, be brand new and fail. But Soldano in my estimation is without question the top of the food chain when it comes to amp design. Get one today and achieve your vision!!!
@nblax41 from what I have read, this amp has a huge modding community where you could achieve stuff like that, but again from what I have read in reviews is that this isn't a crazy metal amp. I have never actually played one, so take that with a grain of salt. If you play mainly metalcore/DM have you checked out the peavey 6505+? I owned the 6505+ 1x12" combo amp and just returned it, sick sounds for dm/metalcore, but horrible clean channel tone.
@Fraeg Id love to be able to afford a 6505+ combo but alas, I can't, along with the fact that 60w wouldnt be usable for me. I have actually heard this amp with nothing more than a ts9 and some active pickups and it can do metalcore fairly well. SInce I have no money to buy a new amp at alll right now, I may end up just saving up and buying a 5:50 from Mesa or another small amp.
ok, so i have a Fender Blues Deville and looking to buy a second, smaller amp thats easier for carrying around to band practice and maybe even small venue'd gigs. So: how is the clean tone? And how does it play w/ single coils?
The amp sounds terrible here. The bass is boomy and incoherent, and it just sounds buzzy and harsh on top. Ironic, because it sounds really good in the "unofficial" preview that you did, and it sounded good in the NAMM demos too. Maybe it doesn't vibe well with vintage 30s. I pulled the trigger on one today and will see how it sounds with my early '90s greenback loaded 412. I don't really dig the super high gain SLO type tone, but I think at low gain, high volume, this can sound very JCM800ish.
Hey this amp sounds nice considering my fave amp of all time is the Soldano SLO100... But this seems to have a bit less gain... If i got this amp or say the 100W version would I be able to get my sound? My sound is sort of a mix between motley crue and black label society, or would i be better off getting a bugera 6260?
Really excellent job TK! I like the way you had the text do the "talking" while we got to hear the amp being played. I also like who you showed it with different settings. Keep up the good work.
I'm not sure if it is just youtube compressing the sound a bit or what, but the lows really sound mushy. I listened to it through my speakers and through my studio headphones and it sounded the same. Good video as always.... Rock on Brother
Hi, im planning to get one these JCA20H but im kinda skeptical if it could voice out some decent hi-gain tone (of course with a help of a distortion pedal). Coz some amps doesnt really go well with distortion pedals.... hope to hear from you soon... thanks!
These amps sound pretty awesome, but before I consider buying one, I'd like to know one thing. The specs of this amp say that it has 1x 16ohm output, or 2x 8 ohm outputs. Can I just use my single 4x12 8 ohm cab and use one of the 8 ohm outputs on the amp, or would I have to use both the 8 ohm outputs if i went the 8 ohms way? This is the only cab I have, and I'd rather not have to buy another one. Tight on money. Also, I'm guessing this thing would get loud enough for smaller to medium size gigs
@hvrock13 yes you can use just one 8ohm cabinet. the 16ohm output is for 1 16ohm cabinet. you can use either 8ohm output to drive one 8ohm cabinet, or use both 8ohm outputs to drive two 16ohm cabinets.
Hey tone king, i'm looking for a new amp, and i'm having a decent amount of trouble deciding. I was looking at the Jet City line, as well Marshalls and Traynors. Is there anyway i could discuss this at length with you, possibly through email? thanks a lot!
Seven videos for one amp. And not one good lick in the whole bunch. Tone King, it's time to move on. Donate your gear to someone who can actually play, move out of your moms house and get a job. And to all the manufacturers of great gear - stop sending this guy free samples, it's not worth it.
upnothbacon: it's your choice, demo them both. My money is going on the Jet City. Dump all your rubbish 'modeling' gear and get one of these and a few select pedals and you will have all the real guitar tone you can handle. I'm sure a local tech could wire up an FX loop if you really need it.
The sound here is very poor, lots of crackle like a bad lead or something and some flapping / rattle. I think this is based on the Astroverb 16, if so, it's an incredibly versatile amp it will go from clean Jazz all the way thru modern hi gain the only down side is it's all manual, no way to switch tone during a live performance and no effects loop but for 300 bucks it makes a great single tone live amp or great recording amp. Understanding the tone controls on this amp is key to getting tone.
this is super helpful. there's a used one on Ebay as we speak..... I was wondering if this would be a useable amp for me. and my question got answered by the demo.
Soldanos are made in seattle. They are indestructable, the slo has an unconditional transferable lifetime warranty. The Jet city line is made in china, they have a thicker pc board than a lot of amps, steel cold rolled chassis, and nice jacks and switches.
That would be a good idea. Have a shoot out on 20 watt amp heads, Egnater, Jet City, BlackHeart, Orange Tiny Terror and throw in the Bugera V55 just for the heck of it.
Another fun video to watch but would have been even nicer had you spent a bit morer time on the tone controls, sweeping and goosing all three to see how much variation is inside this little beast. Still...great high gain stuff..especially when pushed with the Boss near the end.
Hey Lou - It's tough for me to say, since I don't own the Jet City Cab ... but I will tell you this. The speakers that come in the Jet City cab are voiced for that amp - so, all things being equal, one can say that the Jet City cab will sound better w/ the Jet City amp - being that they were designed and voiced for each other. But, I personally can't comment, since I don't own it, and haven't A/B'd them. Now, with that said - I did play the JC cabs at NAMM, and they sounded really good.
I played the 100 watts version today and I have to admit, that this is probably the most versatile and greatest sounding 2-channel amp that i've ever played! You can get every sound between Funk and Metal!
What surprised me most, is the way it sounds with the Master Vol. at about 0.5!!!! Nice neighbour-friendly volume and awesome sound! And turning the Master Vol. to about 1 allmost made the amp too loud for the shop I played it in! :D
the thing that bug me about this amp is that it only has one channel and theirfore i'm assuming the overdrive can't be footswitchable, so you'd have to use a OD pedal
Great demo. I have honestly not been the biggest fan of all TTK vids, but this was a very helpful demo and you have provided a great range of tones. Thank you. I already have more than a dozen tube amps, but for the price, how can I pass this up? Good job TTK. You sold me.
The thing about amp's in my opinion is I don't wanna feel like i have to push my amp to the edge and still have to add a stomp box to give me what i like to call insane distortion. With that being said I am a Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 mk i fan.
Here is one back at ya! Another great vid from da Tone King! Thanks for posting on the JCA20H. Nice little head at a great price. Gonna get me one of these... Thanks, from the Dog!
tone king you rock! because of your vids i bought a peavey vintage 30 and i think i want one of these jets. don't listen to the dorks on here who critique your playing. i don't play as well as you, i use sm57 and celestions and what you do is a great service. rock on.
Typical early '90s two channel head (that's a GREAT thing in my book), with not so typical gain and pre-amp set-up on the gain channel (2). Actually if you have used any Lee Jackson designed amps you'll see a family resemblance. Basically there are 2 gain controls
'Cause the reviewers on Harmony Central are ALWAYS intelligent and correct, right?
I've never actually heard of the amp so I have no opinion, but using a random Harmony Central review as a source of information can be even less credible than, say, a youtube comment.
Thank you for your review. One request, in a 9:54 review you spent less than 20 seconds showing us "clean". I think your reviews would be be more widely viewed if you represented more "styles" of Rock.
why is he called the toneking? his tone is only "ok" most of the time and his playing is quite basic. just an observation. Oh, and those mics are kinda hot buddy. that amp doesn't sound anything like that in real life
he has since solved the mic. he has a really good one now. and the video isn't about his playing, just about the amp.He is the tone king because he helps you find the gear you need for your tone.
His ears are pretty good, but not so much his eyes. That guitar is beyond hideous.

Hey tone king, i'm looking for a new amp, and i'm having a decent amount of trouble deciding. I was looking at the Jet City line, as well Marshalls and Traynors. Is there anyway i could discuss this at length with you, possibly through email? thanks a lot!
SixStringHeroOtto 1 year ago
Seven videos for one amp. And not one good lick in the whole bunch. Tone King, it's time to move on. Donate your gear to someone who can actually play, move out of your moms house and get a job. And to all the manufacturers of great gear - stop sending this guy free samples, it's not worth it.
ldtriplesix 1 year ago
@ldtriplesix
jealous, :)
No free gear for you?
Maybe licks aint whats needed...
maybe doing a good demo takes another kind of ability..
maybe its not about licks and tricks,
Maybe you dont get it, thats why you dont get free amps..
I just trying to help...

the tone king fails so hard at demoing amps. He makes everything sound like shit
Leonard5555 1 year ago
@Leonard5555
I respectfully disagree I thought it was a great demo. He didnt just show off his playing he demoed the amp. I liked it.
MAMAKICKSASSS 1 year ago
upnothbacon: it's your choice, demo them both. My money is going on the Jet City. Dump all your rubbish 'modeling' gear and get one of these and a few select pedals and you will have all the real guitar tone you can handle. I'm sure a local tech could wire up an FX loop if you really need it.
Patriot1962 1 year ago
The sound here is very poor, lots of crackle like a bad lead or something and some flapping / rattle. I think this is based on the Astroverb 16, if so, it's an incredibly versatile amp it will go from clean Jazz all the way thru modern hi gain the only down side is it's all manual, no way to switch tone during a live performance and no effects loop but for 300 bucks it makes a great single tone live amp or great recording amp. Understanding the tone controls on this amp is key to getting tone.
Patriot1962 1 year ago
How loud is this sucker, could It work for a 3 piece rock band in a small venue? (medium loud drummer)

is blackheart a company pretending to have boutique amps,if not then please list some.and please review the blackheart handsome devil.

thank you.

sound nice for an official copy of soldano product, is it made in korea like the new orange amp or in china ?
Meteotrance 2 years ago
Unfortunately, in china ! So big risk !
b41d3r 2 years ago
@Meteotrance I thought they were made in Seattle....hmmm yeah thats what I was told anyway.
workt71 2 years ago
@workt71
Soldanos are made in seattle. They are indestructable, the slo has an unconditional transferable lifetime warranty. The Jet city line is made in china, they have a thicker pc board than a lot of amps, steel cold rolled chassis, and nice jacks and switches.
wwllyywwmmppss 1 year ago
Hey TK,
That would be a good idea. Have a shoot out on 20 watt amp heads, Egnater, Jet City, BlackHeart, Orange Tiny Terror and throw in the Bugera V55 just for the heck of it.
hawg427 2 years ago
Another fun video to watch but would have been even nicer had you spent a bit morer time on the tone controls, sweeping and goosing all three to see how much variation is inside this little beast. Still...great high gain stuff..especially when pushed with the Boss near the end.
Maxx61 2 years ago
Where are these amps made?
MetalMike767 2 years ago
Hey TK, You said you were playing through Celestron Vintage speakers, were you using a 212 cab or a 412?
This amp should be able to drive a 412 pretty easy.
hawg427 2 years ago
@hawg427 Hey Lou - a 2x12 w/ celestion vintage 30s.
lmsjr 2 years ago
Do you think the Jet City 212 Cab w/Eminence speakers sound better or the Vintage 30's? Did the sneak peek video have the Jet City Cab?
hawg427 2 years ago
Hey Lou - It's tough for me to say, since I don't own the Jet City Cab ... but I will tell you this. The speakers that come in the Jet City cab are voiced for that amp - so, all things being equal, one can say that the Jet City cab will sound better w/ the Jet City amp - being that they were designed and voiced for each other. But, I personally can't comment, since I don't own it, and haven't A/B'd them. Now, with that said - I did play the JC cabs at NAMM, and they sounded really good.
lmsjr 2 years ago
Thanks TK, I was trying to compare this head with the Egnater Rebel 20 or the Rebel 30.
hawg427 2 years ago
I didn't know Jet City had a 100 watt version. How much is it?
hawg427 2 years ago
@hawg427 I am not exactly sure on the 100w version. $999? something like that. don't quote me though.
lmsjr 2 years ago
@lmsjr $799
tadaitstyler 1 year ago
@hawg427 the head for the 100 watts costs about $720, for just the head
BradSpead7 1 year ago
@hawg427 the 100w head is $800 new.
QuamCelerrime 1 year ago
@hawg427 The 1000 watt is $799 if you still need to know, even though its been 10 months :P

Well at least this guys entertaining if nothing else....luv the hammer ons bit lmao :)
Guitarman55555 2 years ago
I dont know if its just youtube or what, but this guys reviews always make the amp sound like mush. tighten up that bottom end!
bigfish0804 2 years ago
I played the 100 watts version today and I have to admit, that this is probably the most versatile and greatest sounding 2-channel amp that i've ever played! You can get every sound between Funk and Metal!
What surprised me most, is the way it sounds with the Master Vol. at about 0.5!!!! Nice neighbour-friendly volume and awesome sound! And turning the Master Vol. to about 1 allmost made the amp too loud for the shop I played it in! :D
So: 10* for Jet City Amps! They REALLY ROCK!
TheFaceDriftA 2 years ago
I tried one of these out at Guitar Center and couldn't believe the tone from this thing for the price.
supermarine67 2 years ago
the thing that bug me about this amp is that it only has one channel and theirfore i'm assuming the overdrive can't be footswitchable, so you'd have to use a OD pedal
rgjmce666 2 years ago
just roll back your guitar volume for a clean and roll it back up for the drive.
bigfish0804 2 years ago
yeah but then their is a gain difference
rgjmce666 2 years ago
hey ttk, check out my new vids on this amp

Hey Tone King could you do a review of a Hayden MoFo? would really appreciate it.
maxwittebol 2 years ago

This by far has to be your best demo ever. I think that this should be a format to follow in the future.
Great Job as always...oh ya also the recording sound is probably the best that you have to date .

tone king you rock! because of your vids i bought a peavey vintage 30 and i think i want one of these jets. don't listen to the dorks on here who critique your playing. i don't play as well as you, i use sm57 and celestions and what you do is a great service. rock on.

harmony central review
Product: Crate Stealth 100 Head
Price Paid: UNKNOWN
Submitted 09/24/2009 at 12:20pm by avr
Features : 10
Typical early '90s two channel head (that's a GREAT thing in my book), with not so typical gain and pre-amp set-up on the gain channel (2). Actually if you have used any Lee Jackson designed amps you'll see a family resemblance. Basically there are 2 gain controls
posiden125 2 years ago
'Cause the reviewers on Harmony Central are ALWAYS intelligent and correct, right?
I've never actually heard of the amp so I have no opinion, but using a random Harmony Central review as a source of information can be even less credible than, say, a youtube comment.
bladerunner12 2 years ago
Thank you for your review. One request, in a 9:54 review you spent less than 20 seconds showing us "clean". I think your reviews would be be more widely viewed if you represented more "styles" of Rock.
52lefty 2 years ago
Wow!
Mud and snow tires? try a different cab it's terrible
let me guess made in China too!
Try a Crate Stealth no pedal needed
I'll post a demo vid soon
Man you need to hear a real amp you won't come back to this

Crate Stealth? One of the worst amps ever. I hate metal guys that post on Youtube. You mid scoop playing douch.

Great sounding amp. Horrible looking guitar...he had to have gotten that from C.C. Deville..
kcave23 2 years ago 4
why is he called the toneking? his tone is only "ok" most of the time and his playing is quite basic. just an observation. Oh, and those mics are kinda hot buddy. that amp doesn't sound anything like that in real life
jadedbutterflie 2 years ago
i cant watch any of these vids due to the horrible playing.
danthesloth 2 years ago
he has since solved the mic. he has a really good one now. and the video isn't about his playing, just about the amp.He is the tone king because he helps you find the gear you need for your tone.
