i like the quadrajet carb especially for the 2barrel fuel economy and the sound when you open that huge secondary up is priceless. they are great carbs and i have had better luck with a tuned quadra than a holley.
my bad. your right i also had a 70 302 i regret to this day selling it wish i still had it , it's still in the family so i guess thats a good thing I hope to some day buy it back.
@FORDONTHEGASKICKINGA Yep but Quadrajet is the name Rochester Products gave to its carburetor made for GM; It's a spread bore, whereas the one in the video is a square bore carb (not the 4V Cleveland original though<-- this one was a spread bore... HUGE secondaries) . When I restored the Mustang, the carb served its purpose on the budget available at the time... However, it now sports an Edelbrock Performer. Thanks for the advice though!
@FORDONTHEGASKICKINGA No, they used a Rochester Quadrajet from factory only with the best performance Ford engines! So the best Ford engines came with a Rochester Q. go to mustangtek lots of information
@FORDONTHEGASKICKINGA dude that's not a Quadrajet (Chevy name)... it's an original 4bbl Motorcraft (Ford) carburetor! I understand your concern though! thanks!
I built a 351 2v decked it .032 quench clearence...cut 3/8in off the oil ring ..,508 lift cam 224/236@.050 advanced to 106 cl.....topped it off with a 7oo dblp this was in 1991...I gotta wonder what that motor would do in a 5.0
A Boss 302 is early Cleveland Tech, ford later put the Boss heads on the 351 Cleveland block because the 302 didn't have enough cubes to put the heads to their full potential, even at 351 cubes you're just beginning to scratch the surface of the Boss heads. Sadly the EPA killed the 400 before it had a chance to show what Cleveland power was really all about... Stupid emissions...
nuthin better than a 351c, thats y i have one in my 65 stang. hahaha, just needs some revisions done to the oiling system, but 355lbs of torque on a factory stock 351c2v, is real nice. alot better than a new mustang gt hahaha.
if that was the first start up arent you supposed to run it at like 2500 rpm for like 20 min to break it in? nice engine though. im restoring a 72 mach 1 with a 351c and its a beast
Very nice, guy. I'm getting an old 73' mach 1 today as well with the 351 C in it. It's a barn find =P. Oh yea, when I went to go see it the guy was like " uhh the motor fell off like right before you pulled up" so I let him crank that beast up, and I gotta say for an old dodge muscle fan I am quite impressed with the sound that engine makes just in idle...
It's a 72 not a 73, my bad. 4v this thing is all kinds of power, got it for 4k, and once I get the body on her looking doable I'll definately get shitty on the camera for ya XD
still u have water in it as a heat soak for the first cpl minuts all the heats soaks into the water in the engine until the thermostat reaches its opening temp then circulates , having nothing in the heads or block to soak up the heat is just asking for troble plz dont do this again specially revving it hate to see a ford die, :D, at least shove a hose in the water neck with out the thermostate in and run it
Yes, that's exactly what I had thought before I learnt the motor does not circulate any water for a few minutes until the thermostat opens anyway. Pretty scary though. Thanks for the concern.
why do you have a GM distributer in this ford?...and what kind of block is that engine? water neck looks out of place for a ford small block?..just wondering?
It's a GM style modern electronic distributor designed for older engines like mine. The water neck on 335 series engines go into the block.Mine is a 351C 4V which is the only 335 series engine with heads sporting massive 2.19" intake and 1.71" exhaust valves (same heads on Boss 302 motors). The 351 Cleveland, which is a thoroughly performance oriented engine with about 300 factory HP, is said to have started the American Muscle culture. Versions of the 351C are used in NASCAR teams.
Love the Video hate the song i think the show Overhal killed it for me hehe Nice Job bro

You should have turned that 351C into a 408C stroker. 500hp would have been easy to obtain along with monstrous torque.

Great find! I can't believe there are still some treasures like this just sitting somewhere until someone like you gets to wake it up!
Is the Cleveland it's got a 4 or 2V? Is it standard?...
Post some videos once you get it!
Cheers!

I bet you've got a 351 Cleveland pumping the muscle, don't you?
