  • As much as Canford Cliffs loves the surface at Ascot. Dominating the 2009 Conventry Stakes field as a 2yr.old. Then showing more dominance in the 2010 St James's Palace Stakes. I'm really surprised that Richard Hannon didn't enter him in the Q.E. II Stakes? Canford Cliffs hadn't raced since beating Rip Van Winkle in the G1 Sussex Stakes in late July. This race was run in late September. So he would've had plenty of time off prior to this race. I think Canford Cliffs could've won this race, easy.

  • Hated to read about Rip Van Winkle being retired pre-Breeders Cup. I didn't particularly care for his chances that much in the Breeders Cup Classic. But I do think at 7-1, that he was one of the more livelier players in the B.C. Mile-Turf. So now Rip is retired, and Fame and Glory looks "iffy" at best for the B.C. Turf? Anxious to see who all Aidan O'Brien sends to Churchill Downs now as Ballydoyle representatives?

  • @GBeret83 Hello GBeret, its always good to chat with you. I just read from one of my fav sites that it appears the Aidan O'Briens' contingent is as follows: Beethoven (either Dirt Mile or Mile), Bright Horizon (Marathon), Together (Juv. Fillies Turf), and Treasure Beach (Juv. Turf). Fame and Glory and Cape Blanco will not make the trip but will stay in training for their 4 y.o. campaigns.

  • Look's as if the Breeders Cup Mile-Turf is going to be loaded with a ton of talent this year. Goldikova will be looking for a 3-peat. Rip Van Winkle. Who's had two very good G1 mile run's this season. America's Gio Ponti. Who just won the G1 Shadwell Mile at Keenland. Proviso. Winner of 4 straight G1's in America at a mile. Sidney's Candy. Who broke the Del Mar turf course record for 8-1/2 furlongs in his first ever start on turf. Destroying the G2 La Jolla Handicap. Maybe Canford Cliffs also?

  • Makfi's first poor run at Ascot in the St James's Palace Stakes was blamed on a throat infection. To me, I always thought he looked like a colt that just didn't take to the surface at Ascot very well. Like the going was too fast for him. No throat infections to blame this poor run on. Rip Van Winkle ran extremely well in this race. But it was really no surprise that Poet's Voice beat him to me. Poet's Voice had really been peaking in his 2 races prior to the Q.E. II. Great ride by Dettori.
