Cool to see this! I have a Nokia N800 but don't see that device under the Nokia list; it's more of an Internet tablet than a phone, but is there planned support for it?
Torley - sorry we do not currently have a solution for your N800 - you should have gone with that Touch after all ;) Given you are one of the leading voices of the community we would love to have your first hand thoughts of what we are doing, just ping me through our site and I will arrange to get you a compatible phone.
npole - Actually that is factually incorrect - for one we are doing this with Linden lab blessing. We take peoples privacy very seriously (as stated in our privacy policy) and at not time do we see any username or password as it is end to end encrypted - your credentials are stored on your phone not on our servers and they are passed through. There is no more sharing than there is with your ISP when you log-in from your PC. However if you prefer using an alt, then by all means you should do so.
Vollee should state that you are actually "sharing" your Second Life account, or to be precise, you are sending your login information to their clients, and do NOT encurage to use your main av. This is against the TOS of Second Life. I'm not saying that Vollee would steal your passwords, but that point must be CLEAR on their service agrement.
It is live! Vollee has launched their service on some 40 handets. I just downloaded it on my phone - it works excellent. I had my doubts when I first saw the video, but it really does work that well.
VolleeDude - I see the 8925 up there, does it also run on the older 8525? Hardware for these purposes should be the same, but no GPS, older camera, no tilt, etc. Shouldn't affect this program? Can I just dl the 8925 version?
sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Better to post these questions on our Forum now that we are live as I do not look here as often. Yes your are correct, the TyTN should also be a valid handset - just not fully tested in QA yet.
What disappointed me was the program running in a crappy Motorola phone. A important tip, use Nokia for test and show these apps, they are the majority of the worldwide market (excluding damn US), and the multimedia and SW capabilities are way better!
pescadorsp: you are correct that it is a pretty low-end phone. We selected it specifically to prove that you do not need a fancy high-end phone with 3D capabilities, as all the processing is done on our side. I can assure you that just about all Nokia 3G handsets will be supported also.
Interesting--and the performance doesn't seem too bad either, though you don't go someplace with a crowd. I'd be curious to see a PC version of this, just to see if it performs better than the 'real' client. :-)
VulpisFoxfire: Thanks - The performance is what you get on a very high-end PC. We are running the original Second Life client on our servers. It is basically a remote PC for you, but delivered in a manner that is adapted for mobile
mikerowe01: Vollee will be supporting iPhone - we only require a fast connection (3G) so wi-fi is obviously also supported as a way to connect to our service
Rokk2themax - Yes we do intend to have windows mobile devices as well as iPhone and other smartphones - but as I indicated you do not need to have a high-end phone with this solution.
Yes. We do not require a high-end phone at all. All we require is a 3G (or EV-DO) phone so we can stream the images... and you will want to have a data plan obviously.
steffest - Thanks! I can assure that there are no tricks in the video it works exactly as you see here (and in fact there are a number of more things you can do that we did not have time to show)... and the best part is that despite your generous offer to pay for this service you can get it completely free by signing up for the beta.
does it cost anything

The beta is Free for all users, we do recommend that you have a data plan with your carrier.

what about offering a sevice similar to this for people to use SL on computers that don't have the specs to run the full client?
TiagoTiagoT 3 years ago
this for symbian or no?
linutas 3 years ago
Linutas: What you are seeing is a Java client but we also work on Symbian phones and support just about all the Nokia 3g handsets.

So, you launched it on a Moto V3xx?
Bjornieman 3 years ago
The demo was on a Moto RAZR V3xx on the AT&T 3G network in the US.
Don1957tx 3 years ago
That is what is used for the demo - most 3G enabled handsets will work
volleedude 3 years ago
That's grand, I have a V3xx too.
