A good solo should fit the song, yes he could have played a bunch of notes per second but would it have fit with the song? And he plays so that his fans can have a good time, he yelled at security guards because they wouldnt let his fans com up close. and comparing him to rock players isnt gonna help much because they are very two different styles of playing. yes they use the same basics but the little nuances that they implement is what makes the difference.Keith hs his own style nd is good

@gbhunter8 even his solos that didn't just consist of well known guitar riffs from other artists (which any guitarist with two weeks of experience could accomplish) didn't have the emotional feel that a solo is supposed to consist of. @gbhunter8 He really can play. Check out some videos of him playing "Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me". His solos are not mindblowing by any stretch, but the subtlety in his playing is what really makes him great. Sure, he's not AS good as, say, Brad Paisley (who could give any modern day metal shredder a run for their money, short of maybe Eric Johnson I say) but Keith is definitely an accomplished player. Think more "Jimi Hendrix" and less "Jimmy Page".
i notice keith and brad paisley are both great country guitarists and i like how there styles differ where as brad has a twangyier sound and uses more notes in a time signature, keith urban has a smoother sound and is more melodic
@guitarist5477 There is way too much repeating in the solo all it is is a few notes here bend the string for 5-10 seconds then a few notes there and bend the string for another 5-10 seconds. I dont think being a fast guitar player makes you good so dont get me confused with those kind of people, but I dont think urbans (excellent) solo is that good because of all the repetition is has. Anyone can hold a guitar and bend the strings on it like that.
@Thrangar3 I think it was a excellent guitar solo in terms of it was very emotional and fit the song very well. Those repeated bends helped emphasize that emotion and draw to the climax of a very emotional and deep song. Now it may not have displayed virtuosity, but I think the solo would be less "excellent" if he made it much more technically difficult but aimless, providing a flurry of quickly played notes just to show off what a good guitar player he was.
I used to hate on Keith Urban because he's a country musician, and I'm a straight up metal guy. But I've seen a few of his videos and I'm quite impressed. Good show, Mr. Urban.

He's making radio friendly music, which today entitles: bad lyrics, polished production, and doing what people want you to do and not what you want to. Really, I'm just suggesting that today's country music is really bad because no one expresses themselves. Music is about expressing your soul, and record companies shouldn't tell you how to do it. That's why the good stuff isn't promoted.

before he went into country he did play heavy metal. there was a point in his life he had to settle down and choose which genre he wanted to do. it was really hard for him to choose but he wound up choosing country because he can blend the two together. . . which he is the best at.....
he didnt play heavy metal, he played blues rock that was compared to hendrix and heavy srv stuff. it was critically acclaimed but never caught on with the main stream and he lived in nashville so it was an easy transition to country.
yea, but Page and Clapton both CAN play fast, just look at Claptons live stuff, he has some verry fast blues licks. Still though, Keith is good, but he is no great, there are tons of ppl that can play leads of that same quality without breaking a sweat.

How about you look up some of his other work?? he's an awesome guitarist. There's an old video of him playing The Devil Went Down to Nashville, and he played Funky Tonight with John Butler Trio on the Arias. that was pretty well awesome too. this solo was nothing special

i'm sure a LOT of other guitarists can leave Urban for dead musically,but he can hold his own if he has to in the musically world he exists in..a lot of country has sold out..that's why Toby Keith isn't popular in Nashville..he done things his own way..as for great guitarists..Brad Paisley has to be top of the Nashville list these days..he's worked at his art to perfection..if anyone deserves praise it's Paisley!!

Actually, I made my way to this video by typing in "Keith Urban guitar solo" to see if he is really as good as people claim. It turns out, people are wrong. He's not a country guitarist; check out Glen Campbell or Albert Lee for that.

Dude, I like his first album, but I feel he's fallen for the record industries terms. He's making radio friendly music, which today entitles: bad lyrics, polished production, and doing what people want you to do and not what you want to. Really, I'm just suggesting that today's country music is really bad because no one expresses themselves. Music is about expressing your soul, and record companies shouldn't tell you how to do it. That's why the good stuff isn't promoted.

That's cool. I think he's being held back, especially when it comes to guitar solos. Since you play guitar, I'm sure you know of him and Brad Paisley's song together where they "rock out" together, but when I heard it, I thought it was cold. They can both do better.

I have heard a few people saying that this guy is a good guitarist.. so I checked out a few vids... uhh... am I missing something? Cause I have seen no evidence supporting this idea. I don't mean to be rude but this video shows me nothing about a good guitarist. Nor did the other few that I have viewed. Maybe instead of insulting me, like that poor other guy that shared my point of view, someone could point me to a video that actually displays some level of skill and ability?

before he went into country he did play heavy metal. there was a point in his life he had to settle down and choose which genre he wanted to do. it was really hard for him to choose but he wound up choosing country because he can blend the two together. . . which he is the best at.....

he didnt play heavy metal, he played blues rock that was compared to hendrix and heavy srv stuff. it was critically acclaimed but never caught on with the main stream and he lived in nashville so it was an easy transition to country.

yea, but Page and Clapton both CAN play fast, just look at Claptons live stuff, he has some verry fast blues licks. Still though, Keith is good, but he is no great, there are tons of ppl that can play leads of that same quality without breaking a sweat.

I agree with guitarsoldier nothings hard if your good. of course if you cant play its gonna be HARD. The better i get as a guitar player the simpler hard guitar parts get as well its a correlation. Also he is one of the best country guitarist out there, but he doesn't right extremely hard solo's...you want hard solo's you have to go away from country and more towards rock maybe metal...just an opinion.

Fast isn't everything..look at Jimmy Page & Eric Clapton..theyr two of the greats...and he doesnt show it now..but in some of his earlier work, Keith ripped it..im not sayin theres no one out there that can out-play him...i'm just saying he definately doesn't suck....and just because you don't like a certain type of music, at least respect it...and Guthrie Govan is awesome btw...thanks for introducing me to his stuff...

I'm not sure if Kodak still sells this, as I bought it two year ago. I use a Kodak Easy Share DX 7590. It's the best, great sound, video and pictures with no flash.
