The JW's are as much a cult as the rest of the christian religions. They are not a cult. They don't fit the definition. What they are is a corrupt religion that would rather save face then help people fight sexual abuse. They're hypocrites and are no better then the catholic priests. What was done is appalling and shows who they really are, just another christian religion destroying the quality of life on this earth.

@momhalsmok JWs do a lot og good, but in this case they hid molesters in their mist and children suffered. They also lost a huge lawsuit over this issue. The JW leadership, the so called Governing Body, they have shown themselves to be nothing more than men. But to go against what they say means shunning and loss of family. These men have overstepped their boundies, I think this shows God doesn't guide them as they claim.
I was never baptized, and I don't attend meetings anymore, but the congregations I've been in do not handle these cases this way. They take it very seriously and I think most probably do. But the bottom line is that the elders should not under any circumstances act as a go-between in these cases. It is a matter of law, and the extent to which they should be involved is minimal in that they may disfellowship the person who did it.
@PurpleHoneyBear you're right. the elders shouldn't have anything to do with these things, but they do. the victims have parents that are trying to do "god's will" by going to the elders first. the elders told me that i WANTED to be raped. said that the reason they took my privileges away (i wasn't baptized then) was because i was stricken with fear and didn't "cry for help". said that i shouldn't have been scared to scream. what logic is that? this happens in EVERY congregation. open your eyes.

However, not every person, as I am sure you have heard before, professing , or as Jesus put it, "Saying 'Lord, Lord'" is following or practicing what is right. I personally met the two women who were subjected to this treatment by a JW man in central Minnesota, and they were vilified and called "untheocratic" for raising a concern about how the organization closed ranks around their abuser rather than "removing what is evil from amongst you". They were told be quiet or we'll investiage you for slander.

The congregation closed ranks around the molestor rather than supporting the victims. Preservation of the organization's image took precedence.

And as an FYI Jesus went preaching everywhere he found people-in the countryside as well as in cities, in villages, in market places, and in their HOMES. Jesus did not expect people to come to him. He went to them Mark 6:56; Luke:5,6 Jesus went through such lengths and spent so much of his time preaching and teaching because doing so was Gods will for him. If someone molested me, my JW mother would kill the person, call 911 , and then call the elders (to let them know she might need bail money). No doubt. She would not ask any one at the congregation for help hiding the bodies but... there are some of her friends that would definately help her. luv u mom!...
thats your mom. here is the problem, they go to the elders first because of the gravity of the situation hopping for help in what to do next. what the elders should do is tell them to imediatly contact the police and after the police have concluded their investigation deal with the individuals spiritual situation.

No she wouldn't. she would go to the elders who would deal with it in house. if he was just a regular average publisher they might report him/her however if it was an elder or circuit overseer they would give him counsiling and move him to another location so he can begin anew. and if you actually believe otherwise you sir/madam are a fool and deserve the hell you have chosen.

I am also a survivor of child abuse within the organization. The pervert was 23 yrs old elder and I was only 15. While camping in Enna(Sicily)to attend their annual meeting (we shared the same tent)he molested me. I told the elders about it but no one believed me. From that day nobody wanted to associate with me as they thought I was the cause. After about 2 years later I left the organization.

I was never baptized, and I don't attend meetings anymore, but the congregations I've been in do not handle these cases this way. They take it very seriously and I think most probably do. But the bottom line is that the elders should not under any circumstances act as a go-between in these cases. It is a matter of law, and the extent to which they should be involved is minimal in that they may disfellowship the person who did it.

@PurpleHoneyBear you're right. the elders shouldn't have anything to do with these things, but they do. the victims have parents that are trying to do "god's will" by going to the elders first. the elders told me that i WANTED to be raped. said that the reason they took my privileges away (i wasn't baptized then) was because i was stricken with fear and didn't "cry for help". said that i shouldn't have been scared to scream. what logic is that? this happens in EVERY congregation. open your eyes.

However, not every person, as I am sure you have heard before, professing , or as Jesus put it, "Saying 'Lord, Lord'" is following or practicing what is right. And these few who do this do not represent the witnesses as a whole, any more than a few muslims who terrorize represent all of Islam. Personally, this is a crime and ought to be reported no matter what. Liklely most congregations do report such.

I personally met the two women who were subjected to this treatment by a JW man in central Minnesota, and they were vilified and called "untheocratic" for raising a concern about how the organization closed ranks around their abuser rather than "removing what is evil from amongst you". They were told be quiet or we'll investiage you for slander.

@gabevee3 - I met the 2 women interviewed for this news report. When they were old enough, they tried to raise a concern about how the organization handles child molestation cases. The congregation closed ranks around the molestor rather than supporting the victims. Preservation of the organization's image took precedence.

I am also a survivor of child abuse within the organization. The pervert was 23 yrs old elder and I was only 15. While camping in Enna(Sicily)to attend their annual meeting (we shared the same tent)he molested me. I told the elders about it but no one believed me. From that day nobody wanted to associate with me as they thought I was the cause. After about 2 years later I left the organization.

I also think that Ivan is right. Everything or anyone is never really perfect or fruitful. That's probably one of the reasons why the wives gossiped. Not ALL Jehovah's witnesses are good. some religions have people who end up making the religion look bad. for example, the chatholic chruch(sorry for mispelling) has lots of Rape and things arent being done to stop it. just because they were in ur situation doesn't mean the whole religion goes down for it. i do apolgise for the fact that u were mistreated but u should call a religion a cult unless they themselves state it. also the people who made u feel bad are just false believers.People come to some religions to piss people off.

They control everything. I have not heard of any elders reporting abuse to the authorities.
