This should be legal! I dont understand why alcohol, a man made "drug", is legal but marijuana, a plant straight from the earth, is not. Shouldn't the use of marijuana be up to each individual just as alcohol is as long as the user is of legal age?

if they do legalize it, your gonna have to grow your own, because they're gonna start adding shit in it to make it more addicting, also to make more money ..
@Kevin67401 What's your reasoning behind that? Marijuana is only habit forming and mentally addicting. People using marijuana don't have physical withdraws when they go off the drug like a heroin or coke addict does. Also how would "they" make it more addicting?
if the do legalize it your gonna have to grow your own,...because they're gonna start adding shit in it, to make it addicting and to make more money...
"Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth & protection of the country", Thomas Jefferson, U.S. President quote on Hemp. “Make the most you can of the Indian Hemp seed and sow it everywhere, George Washington, U.S. President quote on Hemp.“We shall, by and by, want a world of hemp more for our own consumption", John Adams, U.S. President quote on Hemp. LEGALIZE IT!!!!!!!
If they'd legalize it the Mexican cartels would lose billions...the US govt. would gain billions. I guess the "right people" wouldn't be making the money in this country or it would have been legalized years ago.
@blackkat77 The drug war is fail my friend :) we need to legalize it all regulate it all and get addicts medical help not fill the prisons and make you spend SHIT TON on taxes .
how would that tax you more, even if you smoked weed everyday it should lower your cost, because if they over taxed it you'd just get it from back alley folks or grow your own.
It also increases freedom by not locking people up for non violent crimes. I don't even smoke the stuff, who knows what helltrack what ever is on. I would opt to curb waste spending, raise taxes on those who can afford it, end war. call me the tax and save lib, the save part is the national debt and people too
If you read my posts...you will see how it decreases freedom.
first...weed being illegal and locking people up is a mood point as this is an intrusion on States and Peoples Sovereignty...so, to say that leagalizing it "will increase freedom" is null. You cannot gain freedoms of which you inherently have.
this will, however, decrease our freedom in the sense that with the "legalization" comes new agencies and legislation, of which, could entail on invasion of private property rights...cont
cont...private property rights to those purchasing, those growing, those transporting and those selling the product...take a look at ALL items which are taxed (everything) and look at the regulations on the grower, the transporter, the seller
Marijuana is a personal choice and within your private confines (home) this falls under Natural Law...it is YOUR body so YOU can do with it as you please, under a Constitutional Republic (which America is) the govt has no role in your private affairs.
"Legalizing" something means that YOU, the individual, did not have the inherent Right to do this act in the first place and being that it is "legal" there are many upon many of constraints tied to this "legalization"...
Legalize it within public confines, yes...add constraints as this is the Property of the collective society and everyones opinions differ...
Within my property...there ought not be constraints as this is MY property and falls out of the realm of Constitutional Law...cont
now i suddenly like you, but I can grow weed in my home as I please, despite breaking the law I still have my 4th Amendment rights, from what your saying you want no law on the issue and that makes perfect sense, and I'd be for that. but we both know that's not the way there going to do it. I hope one day we could repeal all these laws, it is like taking baby steps, but most are ok with the regulation and taxation on tobacco or alcohol if not they would grow or make there own
really...didnt know paying MORE taxes for increased government was MORE freedom...funny how that works.
The weed is the worm on the hook...you are the hungry fish...everything the government "makes legal" (which is already legal through Natural Law - the law which the government cannot intrude) brings with it agencies, regulations and taxes...increased government = less liberty and freedom.
You people that think this is more taxes are stupid. Your right a new tax would be created, but its on a substance that generated no revenue before. It in fact cost money to in force the law the made it illegal. So even though it is a new tax its the best kind. DIRECT TAXATION. I think you people that think you know what your talking about should do your research on types of taxation, and taxation in general. The money that is made of this can be used to help people addicted to real drugs.
i have NO problem with a consumption tax under a Republic...but, under a socialist/statist system, the consumption tax adds fuel to the fire...the fire being an increasing size and scope of government...if we still had a Republic, this tax would be wonderful...seeing as we are borderline communist, this tax allows the government to spread the taxed dollars to whatever existing/new program it wants...this is the reason i oppose any taxes under our government today.
agree...the money that is made off this CAN be used for a good cause...but it will not be used for such cause.
it will be used to fund more corporate bailouts, war expansion and increased revenue to promote increased budgets for the existing/new social programs we have...
none of it will go to fight cancer, addiction, pay down the debt, rehab...etc.
@biggesttrucker, Ya, because that's so much better for you. You have all these chemical drugs out there like crack, heroin, meth., and you're worried about pot. WTF??
How many times have you been accosted by a pot smoker? How many potsmokers are disrupting your cities and neighborhoods. Get a Clue, moron.
I'm not gonna destroy my liver by using pot, but keep drinking whiskey and see how you make out.
Why should they when alcohol is demonstrably POISONOUS to the body, where as cannabis is NOT?!
The theoretical amounts required for "cannabis toxicity" are practically IMPOSSIBLE for people to consume.
There are no corpses attributable to "cannabis overdose." The same cannot be said of alcohol, which lands people in morgues for toxic overdose with great regularity, or due to long term effects of alcohol consumption.
There's little/no evidence of cancer deaths due to cannabis smoking either.
@biggesttrucker, how about we make scotch and whiskey illegal too. They're both scientifically proven to be more harmful than marijuana. Alcohol is the nectar of the nitwit, and you've just proven it. You advocate use of a substance far more toxic, addictive, intoxicating, mood altering, etc. That just shows you're completely uneducated in regards to marijuana and/or alcohol. I'm not against alcohol, but as a former bartender I know that you can't compare the 2. Alcohol is ten times worse!

Understand?
Basically, i can do as i please at my home so long as what i do does not impose harm to anothers property, freedom, posterity, liberty...etc.
Governments role is to protect our Rights and provide the courts to see over disputes between our Rights...
The role of Government is NOT to tell us "this is bad, you cannot do it"...this is theft of freedom

Indirect taxation is THE ONLY TAX, that could be argued leads to less freedom.
WHY!?!?! Because you can choose not to pay marijuana tax by.... NOT BUYING ANY! Dummies.
waubamikrider 2 years ago 3
There is also taxes on all your food, even a "Kosher tax". Millions of NON Jew-ish people shell out million$ in revenue.
If you want a non Kosher taxed herb than you'll have to grow it yourself.
Last I checked if I make my own beer, I don't have to pay pay Big Brother for my efforts.
