  • Remember when this so fit your life...? UsE tO sO fIt MiNe... SoMe TiMes It'S GeTs BeTtEr...

  • Renee .

  • amazing song, the riff was written back in the mother love bone days by stone, who better to complement it with lyrics than eddie vedder??

  • its the same tune as temple of the dog-times of trouble.

  • Awesome show that night I will never forget.. My absolute favorite acoustic versions of there songs Great freakin job awesome show search out the rest of the set list this is actually from the 1996 Bridge School bennefit show. I'm glad to know theres a younger generation discovering great music I lucky enough to be a teenager during this time and I still follow these guys..

  • One of the best ever.... I don't know who I like more, Pearl Jam or Eddie solo. Incredible by all means. Cheers!

  • Guys check this Footstep cover, it's a guy with the same voice of Eddie, /watch?v=BmftHRN3CyA

  • @Trasgoooo Why would anyone want someone that sounds just like Eddie when we've got Eddie right here?

  • That bass kicks some serious ass

  • @releaseme4034 i only know they performed that song before this one because in another video he pulls out his harmonica after the end of EW. I can only WISH that i was actually there!

  • The best fucking song ever....

  • Ok so im 16, born in 1994. Pearl jam is my favourite band of all time. And this is my favourite song ever. I just wish that i was born before their peak, so i could go watch them live in concert. If they announced an australian tour, i think i would start crying haha. Where did the music industry lose its way? All this synthesised and auto tuned crap! If its got a guitar in it, ill listen to it! RHCP, Nirvana, John Butler Trio <3

  • @MrButch611 Check out Cage The Elephant, they are FANTASTIC make sure you here songs off their 2nd album, like Aberdeen or Check out Sabertooth Tiger if your looking for a Nirvana Grunge sound.

  • @mikehowton707

Lovely, thanks very much mate, will do

  • @MrButch611 im 17 but i was born in 1994 lol i feel the same ! music today sucks giraffe pussy ..and gets shit on every morning. .. lmao i love all those bands everything from the 90's was pretty much gold. if you like stuff with really great guitar riffs i highly recommend you check out deftones, 1 of their videos is on my page :) lol

  • amazing song!!!!!!!!!!! of course it's one of the best of PJ setlist...

    Fuckin' love PJ!!!!!!!

  • yes again i cried again...... this is what they do to me.........fucking love this band

  • This is 99 and Edd looks really old and bloated, had he just given up drugs or something?

  • 22 people obviously suck!

  • pearl jam is awesome but I do urge folks not to give up on the music of today. The real problem is that today's popular and mainstream music sucks. There's plenty of good rock, blues, and even jazz out there being performed by modern bands but you will never hear it on MTV, VH1, or mainstream radio. Do Not Give Up Hope For the Beauty Of Modern Art

  • That song is so deep. It's the kind of song that you hear and then your mood has completely changed. I'd like to know why the hell there are dislikes on this.

  • This is possibly the best song ever written!!

  • I just wanted to correct those people who dont know about this song & others. I as a die hard Pearl Jam fan, need to let the masses know the truth. "footsteps" is apart of the mamasan trilogy along with "alive" and "once". for those who dont know about the trilogy, i strongy suggest you look it up. Great video. Footsteps is my favorite song ever!

  • "She's lookin for somebody better, much better than eddie vedder "

  • Not sure the Serial Killer reference is accurate.

The trilogy of songs however is. The 3 songs represent his mom and the affair he had with her at her insistence. She would use Eddie as a replacement for her husband Eddie's dad because he resembled him so much. The Footsteps are a reference to him being able to hear her on her way to his room at night while he was in bed at night. The songs are deeply personal and I read this as an actual account written by EV.

  • @mikeLOUD Not true. Eddie was never in a sexual relationship with his mother. Alive is somewhat about Stone Gossard, the guitarist. He found out when he was a young man that his biological father died when he was much younger and that his "dad" was his step-father. Nothing else about the 'mini-opera' (in order, alive, once, footsteps) is based on real events, although yes, the trilogy means alot to them. This is all easily found online with a light google search :P

  • @Greyghostvol1 its false , the one who discovered about his father was eddie , it is on pearl jam story tellers he talks about that, about the mother and sexual relations its all fake.. i never eard something like this

  • this guy puts so much heart and emotion into his singing

    great song and awesome performance

  • *sigh* where did these times go.... :(

  • There should be more buttons here...LOVE....ADORE....CRY....HOT...

  • At this show, they played elderly woman just before this song. Both songs were amazingly performed back to back. Jesus christ, why was i born in '94??? no band of today could match that kind of talent.

  • @xXalvarado94Xx Cause ** Was Born 2000+ Years Ago . . .

  • @xXalvarado94Xx if you were at this show then you were 5 years old seeing this show? I very highly doubt that. But yes seeing Elderly woman and footsteps back to back acoustic is amazing!

  • @xXalvarado94Xx amen

  • @xXalvarado94Xx

I feel sorry for ya champ, I was born in '79 so got to appreciate Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Pumpkins, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden etc when I was 15-16 yrs old. Began to go out drinking, chasing girls and partying! It was awesome and feel so privileged to have spent my life/music shaping years having this with me at such an influential age!

  • Doesn't matter what it's about. Music is for your own interpretation. Just an amazing song however you want to relate to it.

  • I've got scratches all over my arms one for each comment made about this song.

I did what I had to do.

    I listened.

  • No better voice in this world...!!

  • Comment removed

  • the final act

  • Footsteps in the hall, it was you, you

Pictures on my chest, it was you

    It was you...

I did, what I had to do

And if there was a reason

Oh, there wasn't no reason, no

And if, there's something you'd like to do

Just let me continue, to blame you

Footsteps in the hall, it was you, you

Pictures on my chest, it was you, you

  • @Alvaroscool you do know you definitely need to speak to a proffesional do it and feel better... i did

  • Don't even think about reachin' me I won't be home Don't even think about stoppin' by Don't think of me at all ohh!, I did, what I had to do If there was a reason, it was you... Don't even think about gettin' inside Voices in my head, voices I got scratches, all over my arms One for each day, since I fell apart I did, what I had to do If there was a reason, it was you...
  • No wonder this sounded so familiar is sounds a lot like Times of Trouble Temple of The Dog. Which also had all these guys in. haha

  • Awesome live version....seen them live many times throughout the years and they never disappoint....Vedder's getting older but still one of the sexiest men ever....2nd to Layne that is.....Times of Trouble was writtten first though.....

  • check out the song "times of trouble" by temple of the dog. its exactly the same song instrumentally just that cornell is singing something different.

  • totally have to agree! love this song!

  • love this song <3

  • eddie vetter and russel crowe must be cousins

  • thanks, friday noblesvlle!

  • @VertigoMynd wish we would have got it

  • thank you for the music...

It takes away so much pain...

  • This is actually the third song in a "mini opera" that he wrote. Alive, Once, Footsteps. It's all about him finding out his step dad was not his real dad, after 18 years of living with him (Alive), then he goes on a rampage and becomes a serial killer (Once), and eventually gets put to death (Footsteps). It's basically a song to his mother.

  • it takes a special woman, 2 fuck ur head up like this,

  • Music is like everything else today.

Its being micromanaged and taken over by the elite globalist politically correct

corporate assbags who ruin everything they touch.

Music has become so fony and superficial these days.

What with American Idol and Guitar hero who needs real musicians

    anymore.

Who needs the really tallented people who have spent thousands of hours in seclusion learning their art form only to be bested by a stupid damn video game.

The 60s are gone and never coming back.

  • this song is part of a trilogy of Eddie's. Alive=boy is sexually abused, Once=he is disturbed and kills people, Footsteps=waiting on death row.

  • @DEADMANSJOURNAL

Someone knows the truth! Well said mate.

  • Temple of the Dog is the best album ever. Sorry Ten and Nevermind...but it is true.

  • @faceblood This song should of been on Ten along a few others..Imagine how much even better it could have been. Ten is already one of the most complete rock albums. It's personally my favorite album, and far better than Temple of the Dog. Both great albums, but complete Pearl Jam w/Ed Vedd sounds so much better.

  • This song is brilliant, but I think my Mom had that same haircut in the 80's. That was not a good era in the history of Eddie's hairdos!

  • ...."So this is act 3" , Eddie said that on a bootleg when they played the Mamasan Trilogy live.....such a great song.

  • @KittyKranker

yeah thats it , but it perfectly fits as a brokenhearth storry too. ( thats how i feel it for myself )

  • the good thing about pearl jam is that it's up to personal interpretation. For instance, Alive was orgiinally meant to be a sad proclamation that he's still alive, but as Eddie says, it's become a chorus of hope.

And Betterman, originally about abuse, has become a love song for others

  • @TheDoctorPezz hearts are broken in many ways

  • Thank you Eddie, the lyrics are just incredible, this is more than music...

  • I heard the song Times Of Trouble of Temple Of The Dog, the instrumentals sound just equal.

But, this is a great song, nice lyrics.

Pearl Jam & Grunge music in my heart

  • Took my breath away...

  • One of my FAVORITE Pearl Jam songs. Can't get it out of my head!!

  • @sweetfire35 hope you know its stone gossards/temple of the dogs/pearl jams song...its on the temple of the dog cd - times of trouble....i dont know exactly but i guess gossard wrote it or something

  • Yep---I knew that! Thanks!!

  • Never get tired of this song.

  • Killer tune....like all their songs!

  • this song Y_Y........

  • I love these guys ... the band Pearl Jam and Dog Savanna are the bands that I like to hear! Viva Rock!

  • I thank God everyday for the girl that he fell in Love with that eventually broke his heart and f'd him up so bad to inspire these songs...wow what happened to music? I used to stay up till 2, 3 in the morning when in was in middle school high school just groovin to music, am i gettin old or am i right music blows today huh ?

  • @vijion2020 Did she f*k him up? What did she do? I totally agree with you by the way, music these days cannot compare to pearl jam :)

  • @vijion2020 I don't think it's about a girl. Granted, "Black" is definitely about the girl who broke his heart. This is the final part of the Mamasan trilogy, including Alive, Once, and then Footsteps. It's about a man who learned his real father died and he had lived with a stepdad, then was sexually molested by his mother, became a criminal, and footsteps is his song before he is taken to be executed. I think.

  • @vijion2020 You're right ,music has changed. This is the stuff I grew up on.Graduated in '93.Those were the best years in music I think.

  • @vijion2020 I think the song was a fictional reaction based on his mother not telling of his biological father. Unsure tho.

  • @vijion2020 heya girl, keep ur head bout ye, this is our song, hope ur still with us.

  • @vijion2020 there are still a few of us there that do.

This music is truly my life. Keep on rockin man!

  • @vijion2020 what agreat analogy this is my ex's and i breakup to a tee, pitcures on my chest thanks for a great post pj forever

  • @chefrah54 is it not pictures on my desk?

  • @prampeet you figure that one out, and let me know. My buddy and I have had the "pictures on my taste/desk" argument for a decade. LOL

  • @EchoInsurgency sometimes he clearly says chest, especially in this video, but ive always thought it was either that or desk

  • @vijion2020 Your probably getting old but music does BLOW today...so probably a little of both ha

  • @tren979797 im 19 it blows as you put it

  • @vijion2020 Nah man your right, I'd stay up with my cd player in elementary or my mp3 player in highschool and just listen to tons of music and before I knew it it would be like 4 in the morning, but id be in peace.

  • @vijion2020 nope im 18 pearl jam are my favorite band

  • @vijion2020 actually it is his mother..

  • @vijion2020 : Been there too my friend... I'm just affraid we're getting old !! I hope kids/teens these days spend the same sleepless nights we did, listening to some good thoughtful music. Not necessary today's band anyway... God bless Rock n'Roll !

  • @fredzone74 Don't worry we are keeping that custom going. I'll probably even do it tonight...most likely on a Pearl Jam Binge.

  • @vijion2020 no--we are old--nothing we can do but thank god that we are here. Eddie and PJ was for us but i guess lil wayne is for the youth? Our music was much better--but i recall my folks saying our music sucked!!

  • @vijion2020

I agree with you completely, although I'm sure you are aware of this band but the black keys give me some hope in the quality of music realm.

  • @vijion2020 I'm 12 and i totally agree with you. so yeah you're right the music of these days blows

  • @vijion2020 Pearl Jam All de time!!

  • @vijion2020 This song is about a serial killer!!! He's on jail wating for his execution... The person that he blame, is his mother... It's not a love song!!! Listen to the sequence 'Alive', 'Once', and 'Footseps'. Then you going to understand.

  • @vijion2020

I know huh....I loved listening to 120 minutes back in the day 3 in the morning....now....there's nothing but SHIT MUSIC.....and when there is some band that is half way good people treat them like fucking gods because....there is no other great band to compare them with.....you know....I mean 99 out of 100 bands today could not keep up with the talent back in the 90's they would get creamed talent vs talent

  • @vijion2020 Nope music just blows these days. But I'm just an old gen x'r

  • @vijion2020 You're sooo right. I used to be the exact same way, staying up all night listening to music or watching videos. The 90s had such great music that really had so much emotion in it. You could FEEL it back then..

  • @vijion2020 You're not getting old, music really blows these days.

  • @vijion2020 this song is for his mother ! A part of mamasan trilogy , a serial killer's history .

  • @vijion2020 Actually there wasn't any girl! This song is one of the first he did for the band! Is the continuation of Alive and Once. Kind like a mini-opera acts. Just listen in the order, you will get the ideia!

  • @nalradarlan, nailed it. This is Act 3 of the so called mini-opera and it tells the story of the boy from Alive who was sexually abused and went on a massive killing spree in Once... and Footsteps is the conclusion to his life on death row.

  • @vijion2020 more than blows, it would appear that its over for me.

  • @vijion2020 you do realize the songs not about a girl that broke his heart, right?

  • @vijion2020 you do realize the song's not about a girl that broke his heart, right?

  • @mhgrove1 Actually, the story is part of a trilogy of songs (the other two being Alive and Once). Footsteps is the referring to a man whose mother told him some really messed up stuff (told in the song Alive), did some bad things (Once) and is then is at the end of his life looking back (Footsteps). I suppose you could say though it is about him and it is about a girl that broke his heart (being his mother) since Eddie has admitted what we've all suspected, Alive is a song really about him.

  • @vijion2020 it was not written because of the girl, it's last part of the vedder's trilogy: alive - once - footsteps, that was somehow related to history with his father

  • @bluetuonela you saved me a comment .. well by saying this you didn't but you get the point right ? :p

  • @bluetuonela you saved me a comment .. well by saying this you didn't but you get the point right ? :p It's btw like this : Alive = incestious relation with mother ; Once: Mad dude goes on killing spree ; footstep: he's in prison awaiting his execution. But most songs about troubled youth were indeed inspired by his own dad so in a way you are right

  • @wolfske89 I know that, it was just a huge simplification to provoke more reseach

  • @vijion2020 You thank god everyday for the bitch that broke his heart? Thats f*cked up!!! I'd like to kick her stupid ass, myself...

  • that's some deep shit, man.

  • How much is beautiful this song!!! makes me think about my love, Alessandra !!

  • Love the breakdown. Very serene.

  • times of trouble rip...temple of the dog ...still great though..legends

  • No, stooge, not a rip. They were both given the music and made two different songs.

  • @Blackshamrock1974 Lol it's not a rip.

Stone Wrote this when he was in Temple of the Dog. Eddie listened to the demo of it and wrote the lyrics. You cant' rip your own song.

  • its rip man..its the same song with diferrent lyrics..stone gossard is the composer

  • my fav line in the song is when he says "if theres something youd like to do, just let me continue to blame you"

  • @peajay81 Every time I catch myself lying to myself about personal responsibility, I think of this song. Sometimes, I can't listen to this song, because it tears me apart inside.

  • @peajay81 4:14... thumbs up o/

  • Is somebody out of tune on their guitar? I don't have the training to know. Amazingly, whatever it is ends up working for this version of the song.

  • My favorite quote is in this song. It's so beautiful.

  • What is your favorite quote? My guess is... "I've got scratches all over my arms/ One for each day since I fell apart."

  • Nah "I did what I had to do. If there was a reason, it was you."

  • Ahh, thank you for answering. You have reminded me that one of the things that is so appealing about Pearl Jam is that there is so much meaning in any one song, and people relate to different parts in different ways.

  • Yeah thats what I was thinkin.

  • Such a great song, it made me realize that i have so much "hidden" feelings in me. Sometimes the heart is full of of words but the tears talk....

  • Well said.

  • som muito loco,o eddie ta chapaço hehehe

  • Mr. Mrcready killing it as always.

  • there are scratches all over my arms. one for each day, since i fell apart... so good

  • sao true

  • I always noticed thoughout the years that eddies face gets bloated all of a sudden.

  • shut up!

  • I think it was when he was drinking lots of red wine.

  • I have heard lot of versions of this song since i like it so much.I think this is my favorite one

  • there are so many things i could say, and yet not all of the words I need...

  • crazy music.Best version!!!

  • LOVE THIS.... I remember this before temple of the dog... fantastic

  • It was you !! eDDIE !

  • THey played this at o2

    such an epic night

  • i was there!

  • i hope they play this in Melbourne in November

  • @YummyEnise

im going to that concert aswell! 5 more days man, cant wait

  • saw them in 06 boston garden ,, great live show..

  • i dont like making comparisons. Everyone has their own opinions but that doesnt make one better than the other. Chris and Eddie are both legends. Both great songs.

  • The song is legendary because of Eddie Vedder not Chris Cornell I do love both versions Eddie Vedder's lyrics and singing are just better.

  • agree.

  • same music as "Time of Trouble" by temple ot the dog. Stone wrote the music and sent it to eddie v. and chris c. Both wrote lyrics for it.

  • yeah and whos version made the album harry? LOL

  • look the song is amazing, his voice is well good, stop analizing it, relax and njoy the best band since the beatles

  • Agreed, but then there have been SO many?!!!!

  • wat a band, i been wit them from start and will stay untill end, spin the black circle.....forever eddie.

  • ahhh dont even think about gettin inside

  • Russell Crowe!!

  • que grande Pearl Jam!!! parece que vuelven a Argentina! ahi estare nuevamente!!!

  • Love Pearl Jam. Hands down one of the best bands of the last 20 years. But lets be honest, no poets are studying Vedder's lyrics, no critics are arguing about whether Vedder is a better poet or a musician, Vedder did not trailblaze entire genres of songwriting. Dylan did.

This is nothing against Pearl Jam. Eddie Vedder is a phenomenal frontman in a talented band. But lets not try to compare him, on a purely lyrical basis, to the most talented lyricist rock has produced (so far). :)

  • and 2 the retard who posted that dylans lyrics are better thats the most retarded comment i have ever read on you tube bob dylan and eddie vedder are apples and oranges everyone knows that there is no such thing as better when it comes to expressing oneself if u relate to a certain person more then another then its ur own thing better is like a canopener versus a screwdriver for opening a can of whoopass which if i saw u would happen for fear of u spreading ignorance to the next generation

  • that is not a retarded comment this person is expressing his/her opinion. u are just too ignorant to allow another person to express a view contrary to urs, which is exactly what ur heroes pearl jam and bob dylan are against. u are a hypocrite.

  • lol, atta boy bendeebz! Nailed it!

  • anyone who hates on pearl jam, or grunge for that matter, has not heard songs like release, garden, leash, indifference, footsteps or sleight of hand, to name a few...

if they aren't the greatest band ever, they're absolutely among the few best. individually they're excellent musicians, their lyrics are unmatched, and the best part may be what they stand for...
