  • i love it lol

  • I wonder who much they paid her to slander her country like that. She isnt even a good liar.

  • Corporate propaganda wants you to hate government and love the "free" market. Why? Because government can be affected by YOU and YOUR vote, while the RIGGED market cannot.

  • This commercial is a lie.

  • Ask Canada's premier why he came to the US for surgery just recently.

  • The fact that you call her this name shows you lack facts and credibility.

  • shona Holmes is a fraud who lied for money. The Mayo Clinic says she had a non life threatening benign cyst, just as her own physician did. She lied for money, nothing she said in the commercial is true.

  • How are we going to pay for a government run health care plan? We don't have $1,000,000,000+ to pay for it.

Take a guess how this plan will be paid for... More taxes!

Don't you see that the government health care proposal is a plan to shift the cost of health care from our employers to us. Do you member our Fed Chairman stating that it is vital for the health care plan to pass for the recovery of our economy. This plan only helps big business!

  • wow this commercial is laughable in its blatant dishonesty.

  • I am from Toronto Ontario, postal code: M1J 1G2. When I was younger my body could not produce white blood cells to fend off infection and illnesses. If it was not for our world recognized health services (Sick Kids & St. Michaels) plus our government funded coverage, I would have not survived. We suffer delays on non life-threatening issues, since critical issues are the priority. I can attest to government funded health care and can bet my life, millions of other Canadians can do the same.

  • I am Canadian and this case does not represent even the smallest percentage of cases.

Currently the biggest 'crisis' in Canadian health care is probably wait times for hip reconstructive surgery (those boomers you know!) and a shortage of nurses.

Maybe if the U.S. adopted the Canadian system we'd keep more talented doctors and these 1% cases wouldn't happen.

My mom had spine surgery a few years ago, nasal surgery and a breast reduction and got the best care - all covered by OHIP.

  • This is the most ridiculous video I've ever seen. I'm outraged that this is on the air. This kind of case hardly represents even the most average wait time. This is typical of maybe 1% of all cases in Canada. MAYBE.

You know what she doesn't tell you in this video? That because she got her health care in the states, that she is now $120K in debt. That's how you get to the front of the line. Bribe people.

Do NOT listen to this ad. Demand that it gets pulled from the air. It is a lie.

  • Maybe if it's so terrible, she could explain why her daughter continues to have babies on the Canadian health care system! Many claims in this commercial are untrue. As a Canadian, i've never been denied health care. and after having a father who has had two skull reconstructive life saving surgeries, I can say it's top knotch. Her turmor was diagnosed as "non life threatening".

  • I am Canadian an this is a lying cunt on the Healthcare payroll. And she's not Canadian. If she was she have been shot on site the minute she got home.

  • Ha ha...what a douche bag. This is a joke.

  • "...government should never come between your family and your doctor."

that is unless you want or need an abortion, in which case it's perfectly ok for the government to come between your family and your doctor, or if you want to euthanized... but other than that...

  • But it's OK for an insurance company bureaucrat to stand between you and your physician in the US, with that insurance company bureaucrat being able to overrule your physician's preferred treatment.

  • You'd rather the gov't decided who lives or dies? Just watch, those of us outlined in the MIAC report will be the first to be denied.. just like Pol Pot did to the Cambodians.

  • The governmentin Cznada does not decide who lives and dies, but with the insurance takeover of health care in the US, the insurance company bureaucrat who stands between you and your physician does decide if you live and die in the US though.

  • The government in Canada does not have a say in treatment at all. Canada has physician-run health care. The US has insurance-run health care, and insurance companies DO interfere with treatment decisions.

  • You just need to go reicht on out to Mayo Clinic in Arizona and tell them that you need an MRI and anything else you need. I'm 100% certain that they will take you in and give you each and every test that you can't get in Canada with no waits and you won't need healthcare either. So everyone without healthcare or waiting for testing can get it immediately at Mayo Clinic in Arizona!!!!! I'm thrilled and head out for Arizona tomorrow.

  • this is ridiculous, the canadian healthcare system is phenomenal. my grandfather suffered from a massive heart attack a few years ago and had three major surgeries that saved his life within weeks (allowing for some healing time.) I have issues with my cartlidge so I've been in and out of the hospital over the last few years and I have nothing but good opinions about our healthcare.

  • This woman is a liar who is most likely being paid lots of money to make appearances like this one. At the beginning of the video, she claims that she "survived a brain tumor," and that had she relied on the Canadian health care system, she'd be dead. She actually had a non life threatening cyst known as a rathke's cleft cyst. The ad also makes the claim that "Washington wants to bring Canadian-Style health care to the U.S." This is also a lie. Obama is not proposing this type of a plan.

  • this is non sense, Please!! how much money did this woman get?? is she really really canadian??? please:) this is too much!! she's an idiot if she's really canadian and making a stupid ad like that. maybe her brain tumor affected her judgement. NOBODY gets on a waiting list if it's of serious matter, they don't fool around with cancer patient, heart conditions and other serious related illnesses or conditions! Please, stop this non-sense, free health care is a relief and PROUD to have it!

  • If it's so good, why are we the only country that people COME TO when they can't get what they need in their own country? We are the only ones who don't have NHC and that's GOOD!

  • They don't. Thousands more Americans come to Canada for treatment and surgery they can't afford in the US than the handful of Canadians who go to the US.

  • You can't be serious!??? No one would THINK of going to Canada, what, to wait in line? Half million people come here every year, we have special units of them in our northern hosptials.

  • Thousands of Americans do come to Canada for treatment and surgery they can't afford in the US. Only a handful of rich Canadians go for treatment in the US, and that's as a status symbol, not because they need to.

  • Obamacare: Prequel to Logan's Run

  • You get your facts from the DAILY MAIL?! You realise that's tabloid garbage, right? They'll post anything, no matter how false it is, to shock people into reading. I'm surprised they haven't reported about aliens from Mars landing in Trafalgar Square yet.

  • My friend in Canada gets rare experimental treatment, it works for HER but for nobody else I know in Canada.

    @freshhawk, shut up.

I have no IDEA why the Unions want this. I'm in the IBEW and our health care plan is gold. I pay $19 a week for my plans best med, dental, vision for myself and my son. Under this health care plan i LOSE it if my Union ever fails to negotiate it, or if we get another insurance company

This is financial SUICIDE-thats the reason its 1017 pages-so you DONT read it

  • I was discussing this with a friend with insurance company problems and some questions came up: She's a Canadian citizen who clearly still lives there. What insurance company would just pick her up for this procedure so she could go back to Canada and not think about it again? American insurance companies rarely take AMERICANS with pre-existing conditions. Why would they take her?

Conversly, if she paid out of pocket here, why did she have to involve the Canadian goverment in the first place?

  • Because they make it ILLEGAL to pay a doctor even out of pocket!!!!!!!!! This is wrong.

  • Because that would be paying him twice.

  • Actually folks like myself who normally go about our business everyday and now have stop to fight this stupidity.

Also note all large insurance cos have bent over to this and most companies are salivating over dumping their health care plans onto the Feds. So the money is coming from individuals like me happily.

  • Pure propaganda! Who is funding Patients United? Insurance companies, I guess.

  • This woman was diagnosed with Rathkes cleft cyst. I hesitate to call it "benign," but it's rarely, if ever, fatal. In all fairness, I understand that removing the cyst as early as they did saved her eyesight, but her life was never in danger.

  • And her sight was always reversible even if she had waited years.

  • Pure propaganda. She didn't have a life threatening illness. Just a benign cyst. Why is she lying?

  • One thing is clear. When you liberals don't liek what someone has to say. You attack the PERSON. You are trying to trash her and not really what she is saying. The Candaina system sucks. You death rates are significantly higher. PERIOD. SAve the lies and personal attack and deal with the truth. (If you are even Canadian).

  • You do know that america is number 37 in infant mortality right? After slovenia. Canada's death rates are not higher, they are lower. Get the facts right

  • you are aware that Canadians have a higher life expectancy right. it was not life threatening and if it was she would have had it removed quickly

  • Will you people stop talking about this? She didn't even have a brain tumour, it was a cyst, and not life threatening. The ad is complete BS.

  • freshhawk: Prove it. Or, are you, along with Obama/Reid/Pelosi lying?

  • The fact that Shona Holmes had a non life threatening benign cyst can be found citing US sources in any major Canadian newspaper.

  • If this lady was so worried about her health, why wouldnt she have been worried about her weight also. We she be able to get insurance in the US being such a high risk?

  • Because in a free society, individuals are free to choose how to live, and whether and if they wish to eat foods which may not be best for one's health. Rats in a controlled lab likely live longer than "free rats"... but they don't have freedom.

  • in her case it looks like she has no money so she wouldnt be able to afford that lifestyle because she wouldnt be able to afford the insurance (that is if any insurance company would insure her there) with her risk factors.

I have a large extended family in Canada and I have never heard any situation remotely close to hers. She may have had a bad doctor but ive never had problems getting second opinions if needed. She should really look aftere herself better..

  • I really think that it's hard for those to really judge the Canadian system unless it has let you down. My mother fell through the cracks, has gone undiagnosed for over 5 years. Waiting a year for a specialist only to have him completely dismiss her when she actually got the appointment. The system has failed her numerous time. It is so incredibly frustrating. The quality of care she has received has been so poor! Our next step is to the US for testing and a diagnosis.

  • It surely describes the weakness of a government run health program

  • Oh Yes, Our Government Thinks It's Patients Are Not Worthy. What A Lot Of Bulls**t. My dad has a brain tumor, Glioblastoma Multiform, Stage 4. It was on a portion of his brain that affected speech, motor skills and memory. In fact, he was diagnosed on a family vacation in Sault Ste. Marie. He was flown home immediately, (this was August 6, 2005), and he had surgery on the 9th. He also underwent 33 rounds of radiation, and nearly three years of chemo, and another surgery. He's still with us

  • Out of three years of Chemotherapy, we had to pay $500 a year, as opposed to $4000 a month. Her treatment for her phony tumor was probably free because she was traded the "treatment" in exchange for doing this add. She's an F*****g liar. No health care system is perfect, but if she doesn't like Ontario's health care, don't de-value the rest of Canada. Each province is alloted funds by the government, how they use them is up to them. No oncologist knows what the limit for treatment via chemo is.

  • Each province is different. My dad was on drugs for three years, but Ontario's is only six months. Understandable, seeing as most brain tumors are in remission by then, if they ever will be. Care is not delayed, care is not denied, at least not in Manitoba. As for the United States "World Class Care," there are only two places in The US that offer such treatments. My dad got his drugs from the Health Science Center in Winnipeg, which is not a very large facility. It also has a Gamma Knife

  • There are not many Gamma Knifes in North America, and it is always booked SOLID! If there is ever an opening, they have appointments moved up. It is the same with brain MRI's and CAT scans. Alright, it's not free, but it's certainly less expensive than it could be. We didn't have to stop treatments because we couldn't afford it. We didn't have to file for bankruptcy either. If we lived in the US, we would have either lost all of out possessions, or my dad. I implore you, dont listen to this s***

  • By The Way, did this person ever have surgery on her head? For all she knew, it was a cyst, and, while here are issues with that too, it is only reasonable that she should be placed behind someone who actually has a malignant tumor, and are far more likely to die if she has her surgery first, while she could live for another day. Sorry for rambling, but this is awful. Our system is not anything like what this horrible woman is making it out to be. If you don't believe me, try it out first.

  • BTW Insulin, radiation treatment for cancer, pacemaker are Canadian developments, not American ones. There is a trial going on in Toronto right now which is thought to be a potential cure for Muscular Dystrophy.

  • This is such unmitigated horse shit it hurts my brain to know that people believe this shit.

  • Turns out her brain tumor was actually a pair of HUGE BALLS!

  • Look at this bitch, lying through her teeth about her "life threatening" "tumor". In reality, it was a cyst that was putting pressure on a part of her brain that would have caused her to go temporarily blind, but which, when removed, it would have restored her sight. She was on a wait list. Deal, Shona. You were on a wait list because people with actual life threatening tumors were being put ahead of you for treatment.

  • Shona Holmes is a fucking disgrace to Canada. She's a liar who had a benign cyst and didnt want to wait to have it removed, so she ran off to the states and got charged a fortune which is why shes selling her soul to the Republican Party and Fake News. Shes doing this to pay for the operation that she would have gotten for free in Canada.

  • Youve got to be kidding me. When I initially saw this I was pretty pissed at this untruthful piece of crap. THEN I realized, hey, if Americans want to spend $34 Mil every 6 months on Ads like this that brainwash their citizens into thinking the right way is the wrong way, then fine. Dig your own graves. But next time you walk into your local hospital with your fingers severed from an accident, and you only have enough money to choose ONE to stitch back on, just make sure its your middle finger

  • The truth is she was on a waiting list here in Canada for treatment of her non-life-threatening benign cyst, but didn't want to wait, so she went to the States and paid for her own treatment. Quite a different story from the one presented in those ads: a story about how the Canadian system was going to let her die because it's such a flawed, awful, dangerous system.

The truth is that if a person has a life-threatening tumor in Canada they will be treated and not, as the ad states, left to die.

  • Holmes suffered from a non-life-threatening cyst that affected her vision which was already impaired. She has collaborated with a conservative right-wing group (Patient's Untied Now) to sue the Government of Ontario for allegedly violating her rights.

  • Shona Holmes is Canada's Sarah Palin

  • LOL, the lady in the video is confused. She must have gotten the two systems confused. Poor lady clearly hasn't been treated for her tumor yet. hopefully there's a Canadian hospital nearby she can get to.

  • 45 million Americans don't have health insurance & the US infant mortality rate is worse than most 3rd world countries, twice that of Cuba. But the US medical insurance business profits billions annually. Any wonder there's an organized resistance to health care like other western country has? Don't like Canada's? So use the French one. Or the Spanish. Germany maybe? Sweden anyone?

Look, Canadians are free to vote out politicians supporting our health care system if it wasn't working well.

  • I am a Canadian citizen. Last summer, in the June of 2008, my family discovered that my father had a brain tumor. Within days of the discovery, he had emergency surgery; at no cost to us.

I am not saying the Canadian system is flawless. I'm just saying that this ad is a one-sided, biased, false representation of the Canadian system... and frankly the woman in the ad should be ashamed for propagating such shit.

  • i know someone who tore his shoulder out couldn't get treatment so had to go to a privite clinic in alberta. there is pros and cons to both systems.

  • That sounds like fiction.

  • Comment removed

  • Don't be blind folks... here in Canada with have a great free health care system.. and if we don't like that option we are free to go elsewhere and pay for healthcare, even if it isn't needed.

  • If they do not obtain universal health coverage in the U.S., then the blood of all the uninsured is on this woman's hands. She will not care though, she clearly is unloved, unwanted, and unable to funtion in a society that regards the truth as being important. She is a LIAR; and every Canadian knows it.

  • She never had brain cancer and her life was never at risk. She had a BENIGN CYST that could have waited, and in fact deliberately chose to go Arizona and spend megabucks despite low cost MRI clinics being available within minutes of her house.

    She is a liar!

  • and this woman likely had a benign tumor in the head (mening)--not that different from a big freckle in the head.

she is being paid to say these things by an american lobby firm paid for by health insurance companies---this is so painfully obvious.

  • i think p072385 is being too generous. americans will get exactly what they deserve--which is the continuation of the worst score on health indicators in any high income nation.

similarly, they tend to be more racist and less educated than any other high income nation. it is painful to think that there is any american that thinks they are better off than the rest of us living in high income democratic nations. let me tell you: you are not.

  • I'm a Canadian, and I could not be happier.

  • Yea but we've got legal medical marijuana. :)

    WE'RE NUMBER 1

  • Are you an idiot? Canadians pay 5% GST. The average gas price is $3.50/gallon right now, the average Canadian house price in January was $274,000.. and all fresh food comes from CHINA?! Too bad you're not from Canada, if you were here you could get the psychological help you so clearly need.

  • have you ever seen a $274,000 house in canada.... GROSS UNLIVEABLE mouldy teardown ...or UGLY unliveably crowded noisy SLUM-division (built by mafia nazi developers)...visit USA to see how people realy live ! the good life

  • canada sucks boner ... health care = 2000 fuckin PATIENTS PER 1 fuckn DOCTOR !!! millions dont even have a doctor ...and cant get one ! ...delay treatment until you are a VEGETABLE !!!ifany umericun whants to

  • There is no comparison between the systems. The american system is a disaster! It is acknowledged as the worst in the civilized world and even worse for many than what the not so civilized world has to contend with. I have relatives who have lived in the u.s. with lousy health care and know they will have to return to Canada when they retire. We will take them and care for them because america cannot and will not. Only some americans think they are the best. The rest of the world knows better.

  • Faddle if the american system is so bad, why is it this woman came to america to get medical help? why is it that people from europe come here for medical treatment instead of staying in their own country????

  • She came because she wasn't willing to wait a couple of weeks for an MRI. She had a benign cyst, not a tumor, and neither her life nor her vision was ever at stake. The Mayo Clinic is doing this because, like all large health providers in America, they don't want a system that will impact their profit.

  • Because she thought her condition was worse that her physician did. Obviously she didn't trust her physician and should have chosen another ( and yes, of course we can choose)

  • In Canada, it's your medical insurance card.

In the USA, it's Visa or MasterCard.

  • Shona Holmes = Liar.

  • what people dont realize is that the canadian govt is still paying for her healthcare she recieved in the states and the bill is over 100k my uncle needed gastroc surgery and he went to new york and canadian govt payed for it. alo you can choose private or govt run health care in canada. this woman is just a bitch because when she did this commercial she didnt know she could make a claim because shes an idiot. after she did this commercial her friends brought it to her atention the govt will pay

  • It is not a tuma!

  • there is a diff between speaking your midn and outright lieing!!!!

she didnt even have a tumor... she used her 'gut-feeling' to go to america...

    please do some research!

  • I have done my research before I wrote my comment. Did you do yours.

Dr. Naresh Patel, neurosurgeon, diagnosed Holmes as having a Rathke's cleft cyst (RCC).

Their further tests revealed an increase in the size of her cyst over a short period of time as well as progressively worsening vision. "I was concerned that the pressure on Shona's nerves were causing her to become blind," says Dr. Patel. "We needed to remove the cyst to save her vision."

  • (Don't stop, and I notice the Canadians are very upset that a citizen is speaking her mind.)

Probably because she's lying about having a life threating illness. And the moron was offered free help for it and went to the usa to go bankrupt instead! GO USA!

  • I've never had any issues with our health care system. This women is a liar and a sell out.

  • The lady had a benign cyst. Do a Google search for "Shona Holmes Cyst". Funny how a cyst suddenly turns into a brain tumor and a 6 week wait suddenly turns in to a 6 month wait if someone waves enough money around, eh?

  • I hope this lady decides to live in the US, and never comes back if she likes their system so much. but oh yeah, she sold everything she owned to go there, so she will be wanting our unemployment and healthcare and welfare so that she can keep alive, because they wont give it to them there. Sorry lady, grow up, you cant have it both ways and get away with it.

  • I don't think she'd be able to stay in the US.

She would have a very hard time getting medical insurance now due to a pre existing condition.

Guess she'll have to go back and suffer with her government paid health care until the day she dies.

An option the millions in the US with no insurance don't have.

  • TOTAL BULLSHIT and now you are suing OHIP? where did you get that idea oh yeah from AMERICANS NO FUCKING WAY

  • I call bullshit..........Sure it has its downfalls but EVERYONE is cared for. She chose to go down and pay thats her problem.......people who need treatment get treatment.

  • Why the hell are you trying to sue the government of Ontario to recover the money? You smack our health care system (government/taxpayer funded) in the face with one hand, while trying to stick your hand in our pocket to "recover" your money. This woman is a fraud and better not receive a single penny from OHIP for the rest of her life. You can't have it both ways!

Pay your own bills with the money these American bastards are paying you to spew this crap.

  • Simple math... the billions of dollar being profited by the insurance companies can instead be redirected to providing care to people who need it... The health care system should not be a for profit one because you have conflicting interests... Insurance companies make their profit by providing the least amount of care.

  • This lady had RCC it is non lethal. Mortality rate has been reported as near 0%. You are more likely to die from the surgery

  • So who told her she would die in 6 months? If her doctor diagnosed her with something that would kill her in six month she would have had emergency surgery... dirty propaganda by people who are making millions out of this broken system...

  • Now she is in debt $100,000 from her own pocket and was crying about how she owes her friends this money.

  • I agree 100%, and already I am hearing about how she was paid a serious sum of money by this sketchy PatientsUnitedNow group...

  • note that the video itself is an attack from the right...

  • good she can sell her home and declare bankrupsy just like the Americans

    stupid bitch

  • I sympathize with Ms. Holmes, but the problem is not the Canadian system. For every story like Ms. Holmes', there are a thousand stories of Canadians who were diagnosed, and then fast-tracked to receive surgery in days. Ms. Holmes should have sued her doctor, not blamed the system.

In Canada, if your health problem is not urgent (e.g. hip replacement), you'll probably have to wait a few months. But if your problem is urgent, you go right to the front of the line.

  • I found all that on the dailykos.

Thanks for playing right wing nutjobs. You never fail to entertain.

  • Now, the Foundation has focused its attention on defeating Healthcare reform. They are being aided by a seemingly bottomless pit of cash along with a hired pile of human refuse - prefabricated "private citizens" whose paid function is to mask reality with the stench of their unmitigated and poorly rehearsed lies.

  • A group calling itself Patients United Now has been heavily running aniti-healthcare reform ads on our airwaves. The group is actually a front name for the Americans For Prosperity Foundation, a cartel of Right Wing PR mavens best known for hatching a psychotic and ongoing National Global Warming denial campaign (they consider Al Gore the White Devil) and more recently, dropping viral misinformation bombs on the Presidents Stimulus package.

  • Oh my goodness. This video is a pretty bold lie to prop up in light of the actual facts of this woman's situation. Private healthcare business people are making too much money off of the expensive U.S. healthcare system now for them not to put up a fight against any change that would reduce their profits but if this is the "best " anectodal case they can find to use in their scare ads then the case against universal care might be even weaker than I thought.

  • The story is false. She did not have a tumour or cancer. She had a non-life-threatening cyst. She had to pay $100K for a surgery in the US, and to do so, took out a second mortgage on her house and borrowed from friends. All this to slightly expedite a surgery which would have been performed for free.

  • Fucking American fascist government. Who really won WW2?

  • This video is unfounded propaganda.

I am a Canadian and my family benefited from prime services with no delays (in the case of emergencies) or short delays (1-2 months in non critical knee surgery).

  • From Daily Kos: "Her (Holmes) treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona cost $100,000, and she and her husband put a second mortgage on their home and borrowed from family and friends to pay for it."

No wonder she needs all the money she can get.

  • You are dumb as fuck.

If you look anywhere online for 2 seconds you'll see that she only had a freakin CYST.

Not life threatening at all, THAT is why other people were put ahead of her because they actually had life threatening diseases.

If you look at the mayo health clinic report about her it is called a CYST.

She is just a fat pile of trailer trash from a butt-fuck town in ontario. She makes me sick and if I ever see her around toronto, a shot to the head for sure.

  • wow this is such bullshit, how are they allowed to just make shit up like that?

    ps - i'm canadian :>

  • I know, they should be accountable for lying like this.

  • Can I come visit?... I'm a pissed off American type I diabetic tired of dealing with idiot specialist doctors every 3 months.

  • Why do you tolerate your corrupt system?! I live in a country with "free" health care. *Of course* we pay for the health care. I am glad to pay my taxes, because I know they won't go to fuel another sinkhole war. I never have to worry that I lose my house or that my kids are denied treatment. I have taken my daughter to a doctor 3 times within the last year, and the longest time I have waited (without appointment) was 20 minutes, because there were so many elderly people there that morning.

  • Too many big people that WEREN'T sick got lots and lots of money from drug companies and insurance companies to allow it to become legal. Now the normies don't have the finances to fight it... I mean... we gotta go to the doctor. After the treatment, who's got the time or money to campaign?

Its hard to make a person understand when their income depends on them not understanding it...

Type I Diabetic, dealing with idiots for the rest of my life.

  • You had a cyst that was far from life threatening. It's not the government of Canada's fault that you decided to self diagnose a "brain tumour" and seek treatment elsewhere.

  • Maybe if government health care were an option, the insurance companies would be forced to compete with them and provide us with better health care. ta da!

As it is, the insurance companies are soulless monsters that could care less about your health. They need this pressure. This video is bull.

  • I trust for-profit private insurance companies even less than I do the government to provide competent healthcare. Socialized medicine isn't perfect (our Canadian system has it's faults) but it's better than the alternative.

  • God I'm glad to live in New Zealand.

  • The Daily KOS has a story on this woman. She did NOT have cancer she had a cyst and her story has changed month to month. Also, it cost her $100,000 and she had to take out a second mortgage to get the work done at the Mayo clinic.....

  • There are plenty of horror stories to tell about real tragedies due to the profit-driven system of medical insurance and medical-treatment delivery now in place in the US. If this system is so top-notch, why do these people need to make things up, and to support their point by fear mongering? Let's hear the facts, about a broken system that bankrupts hard working people and is driven by profit rather than by "care" (as in health care)...

  • My friend is dying of a brain tumor while this woman lies about her experience. He needs treatment that his insurance will not provide. All of the treatments are risky, but without them it's certain that he will die. Corporate run health care is not the answer.

  • My friend's sister died of breast cancer because her insurance didn't provide.

Fuck private insurance. They steal your money and never provide.

  • This is a great story.

The health care industry have been waiting for a story like hers in years, to warn us of the dangers of a "not for profit" health care system.

So sad that it's made up.

She didn't really have cancer, she had a cyst/fluid build-up, which is very easy to treat, and NOT nearly as dangerous as brain cancer.

Once again the right tries to make a good point, by lying to us.

  • Once again another attempt to misinform and scare the masses. Sad thing is it will probably work and no progress will be made.

  • the lobby owns you. the industry eats your soul.

my advice to americans: canadians are human too.

  • Europe here, with government health care.

Our stats on life expectancy and general population health are way better than US

American health care (or lack of) is just another way to suck money from people and give it to corporations.

    Please excuse any bad english

  • Fellow European here. Social health care is a basic right of every human and should be universally available. Hopefully my government will fix my health care system before I have to sell my soul to evil corporations like my American brothers and sisters.

  • This is really sad to watch. Another propaganda INTEREST GROUP to scare you into believing this type of crap! I'm a Canadian and I can truly say I LOVE THE CANADIAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM! I don't have to pay a cent to see a doctor, nor pay for a regular check-up. Its time for you American's to start taking action and stop allowing the gov't into brainwashing you into this. A health care system that's paid-for is better than being turned away for not being insured! SPEAK UP AMERICA!

  • ZING!

  • You do not get the point. Healthcare isn't free of course.

The canadian healthcare system like the french one or the english one, allows you to be treated if you're sick without selling your house. It's managed by governement so you can trust it more than a random business which only aim is to make money.

What is so hard to understand ??? if the healthcare in the U.S was working fine, people would fight for it, if it was good instead of fighting each other. There's problem, it's obvious.

  • I am a Canadian living in BC. My father recently needed heart surgery. Within the month, his surgery was done and he was at home recovering with regular checkups. I was extremely satisfied. It's true our system isn't perfect and there are delays, but this is an EXTREME exaggeration. Out of school, I made under $20,000, so my coverage was 100% free. Now I pay $54 a month ($108 for a family of 3 or more). Tommy Douglas gave us our health care and was voted "Greatest Canadian" in 2004.

  • BA-ZING

  • Hi. I'd rather pay for health care than 2 wars per decade. The fuck do you have to say about that?

  • Your damn right it was!!! And now that I pay for it myself, I'm glad to pass it on and help pay for the people who wouldn't have coverage if it wasn't for our system.

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck the health insurance industry. What price can you put on a human life?

  • Garbage. Ask any Canadian who's lived in America or any American who's lived in Canada. They will all tell you the Canadian system is better. But look at some other countries like France, they have the best care of all.

  • Lies.

  • The only cancer i see here is this video.

  • I bet this dumb cunt is using Canadian healthcare on a regular basis, hypocrite. Someone send her ass to the obesity clinic.

  • Lol I vote to that !

  • Will the real PatientsUnitedNow please reveal himself?

  • bullshit!

  • Don't let government come between you and your doctor... that's the insurance company's job.

  • Don't people realize that private health care won't go away with the introduction of so-called "socialized medicine"? Why are people so stupid?

  • It was impossible and didn't happen that way, Shona may choose to continue to believe it, "That's My Story & I'm Sticky to It. She had a benign cyst, it was drained through her sinus cavity, the pressure was removed and her vision returned to normal, pretty standard for this type of RCC cyst. She discovered she owed 100,000 dollars US and soon developed a REAL medical emergency problem. But apparently hasn't learned anything from it. She over reacted and doesn't want to pay the piper (MAYO)

  • Any Canadians care to comment on this? Speaking for my people and our free health care I gotta say it sounds impossible.

  • apparently the facts are ........ embarrassing. Shona, how long did you think it would take for the truth to reveal itself. Tsk Tsk Tsk

  • obvious PR lies and bullshit. time has come for real health care reform.

  • Dr. Naresh Patel, neurosurgeon, diagnosed Holmes as having a Rathke's cleft cyst (RCC). The rare, fluid-filled sac grows near the pituitary gland at the base of the brain and eventually can cause hormone and vision problems.

  • Eventually...an the horromone are always reversable. Besiceds she had surgerty at the Mayo Clinic in exactly the same amount of time she would have had it in Canada.

  • wow....im in shock at this bullshit

  • The level of deception in this video is beyond comprehension.

  • Its all bullshit Propaganda!!

  • mmm propoganda
