  • it is also a sad one as the whole audience consists of soldiers, soldiers who won't have long to live more...and these kind of "Gassenhauer" were not really disencourging them from carrying on fighting a useless war.

  • @taiken I literally thought this was Beverly D'Angelo's mom, lol... I find it interesting what won't be found in America. The Comedian Harmonists are excellent and it took a friend with obscure tastes to introduce me to their work.

  • Like many stars of the Nazi era, Rökk was banned from performing for a short time after the war, but by the 1950s, she was a huge star again and managed to create a new image for herself during Germany's "Wirtschaftswunder"-years. She appeared in many many films and onstage until the late 1980s. After that, she kept performing occasionally throughout the 90s. She received many honors, one shortly before her death at a huge show on German TV. She had huge charisma and charmed everybody.

  • I have read, that Rökk was dubbed by Ursula Deinert in this. Is that right???

  • being a jew,and being a gay one,i adore marika rokk. i have lot of her films, and thought she was a good singer and a great dancer. and i also think it is a great shame that most americans will never see any einliedgehtumdieWelts movies except for these bits and pieces. i find it ironic that you can find many movies from stalins russia available in any russian movie store.and stalin was equal to hitler in insanity

  • @obamawill2008 I have just discovered Marika Rokk. Lovely lady and great talent. I want to see more of her stuff. Is it because she was a performer in Nazi Germany that we only see fragments of her work? We have made much of the technology seized after the war. No one gave a second thought when tape recorders started to be mass marketed. No one ever said "no, the nazis invented them"stick with disks".

  • @obamawill2008 O yeah, Stalin defeated Hitler, liberated Jews fro Auschvitz, voted yes to creation of Israel and damn, he's insane in Jews' opinoon.

I think Hilter was aboslutely right being antisemite - he knew them very well.

  • God bless this wonderful performer and mega heroic lady. She sang to bolster the ordinary people's sagging morale and broken spirit, at a ghastly time when she - and everyone else - knew that her country was inescapably locked in the jaws of death...and facing the manic onslaught of unbridled Bolshevism, aided albeit unwittingly by its British and American allies.

  • well well well ..... come on it is not a high class poem. it s a good song ok but nothing else.eva

  • 3) And to the early daybreak

and loud the first cock (rooster) crows

one so long plays bridegroom and bride

    to the first tram goes

    4) There would I also thereby

    it may know only none

I would like to kiss so gladly

    at one night in May

    at one night in May

Sorry for potentially mistakes, but I'm not a native English-speaker. The same song a little slower on: watch?v=iMExkDGP2Zs

  • 1) At one night in May

    there so much can happen

    one can loose the heart

and that goes one two three

    2) At one night in May

    there one can dream marvellous

    and under green trees

    so various things happen

  • 3) Und bis der frühe Morgen graut

und laut der erste Hahn kräht

solange spielt man Bräutigam und Braut

    bis die erste Bahn geht

    4) da wär ich auch dabei

    es darf nur keiner wissen

    ich möcht so gerne küssen

    in einer Nacht im Mai

    in einer Nacht im Mai

  • 1) In einer Nacht im Mai

    da kann so viel passieren

    man kann sein Herz verlieren

und das geht eins zwei drei

    2) In einer Nacht im Mai

    da kann man herrlich träumen

    und unter grünen Bäumen

    geschieht so mancherlei

  • It's not correct what "odysseetheater" wrote. See the complete text and my translation above.

  • O.K., it's one year too late for you, but today I wrote the lyrics in German and English above.

  • Thank you very much anyway, and I have already graduated from the college where I planned to sing this, so maybe I will have an opportunity to sing it at my new school))))

  • We are so lucky in Riga, Latvia! We have one week of Marika Roekk films in cinema! Going there every day - such is the pleasure to see her especially on the big screen!
