on this video on the time 9:22 on the hand controller under the polaris HA 23:26 ha has clock 6:16 does it means the position of the polar finder small cercil will be around 6 a clock position after you set the ceril clock of the mount to 23:26 for example.
nother words same position as the polar finder chart is telling us.
if so my eq6 shows one hour late 7 for example is anything wrong cause mine does not mach now with polar finder chart for one hour. thanks Refet
Your videos have been a valuable service to me and I greatly appreciate the time and effort that goes into them. After watching the setup videos, I was able to setup my mount, achieve a polar alignment, 3 star alignment and search for objects. Before that, I was thoroughly confused by the manufacturer’s cheesy-chineesy documentation.
Do you have any videos on performing a Meridian Flip or are you planning on posting one?
@OriginalAstroTard Thanks for the feedback, meridian flip is no big deal, it's only the mount moving over to the other side of center, basically the mount needs to do it's circle in two halves, right and left. Alignment can run out a little with a flip though and that's where cone error comes in, look for the video on cone error.
@freebz1985 Just use a marker to add a mark of your own, you can either use a spot of tippex or I use a fine line permanent marker. Another option is two luminous green self adhesive stickers, stick one on each of the two rotating surfaces and then add marks with pen as above.
fantastic video.I am thinking of getting a neq6 mount, so this has been great. AmI right in thinking that you are basically pre-setting up the mount before going outside. Then you would align to Polaris through the polar scope using the motors/ hand controller until the real Polaris matches exactly with the small Polaris circle in the polar-scope. Then the mount is ready for scope
does this pre-setting up need to be done every time?I have only used a AZ dob before ,hence the dumb questions. THX
@astronomyshed After performing this procedure, should the mount be returned to the “home” position before the physical polar alignment is performed?
By re-polar aligning, are you saying that the procedure outlined in “complete mount and scope setup part2 (polar aligning)” should then be followed after the previously mentioned procedure?
@OriginalAstroTard I'm not sure I understand your question, the accurate home positioning exercise only needs to be performed every blue moon, just to check nothing has strayed, as for polar aligning, you need to polar align every time you set up, unless of course you're on a permanent pier installation. This video is actually an early one and you can just follow the 'complete mount and scope setup' videos as they include most of whats in this one anyway.
@astronomyshed I understand. The "home" setting is a one time deal that's checked occasionally. The alignment your doing "is" the polar alignment that's performed each time the mounts setup. It's just an example of an easier and more accurate way to perform a polar alignment that can be practiced in the house or the garage.
@originaltrilogy1 Unfortunately, not living in the southern hemisphere, I honestly don't have a clue. I wouldn't know where to start, sorry. I do beleive though that the 'ice in space' forum is based in Australia and someone there will definitely help.
Thanks for the info just set my new EQ5 mount up following your instruction and marked the positions on the mount for future referance. Great tutorial, thanks
This is a terrific tutorial. It is clear and lucid. I love your level techniques. I also have wondered how you can set the Home position precisely. This is the best tutorial on the subject. I intend to go through your other tutorials. The Skywatcher literature is, to be gentle, "wanting".
@MikeinOtttawa Thanks for the comments, yes the SW manuals are lacking lol, I recommend my series of 4 vids (so far) called complete mount & scope setup parts 1 to 4
Too Bad I sold my EQ -6 I now have a CG-5 it is more portable but does
not have any circles at all Not even a clock around the polar scope...
What I do now is make the polar circlet parallel to the counter weight bar and then position the counter weight bar so that it is parallel to an imaginary line between Kochab and Polaris This also works quite well
I just thought I would mention that, after you do the home position trick by using the spirit level, once you have the RA in Home position, mark the RA and fixed points of the mount with a line or as I did a little bit of tape. Do the same with the Dec and you will only have to do this step once, which mean you can leave your clock set for Polar Alignment.
Very good tutorials, I am enjoying all of them. I have seen another tutorial on using the RA clock, but it was rubbish, and I came away none the wiser, unlike yours witch made perfect sense. I now know how to use that technique. Thanks.

Hi if any one can help me. have eq6 pro ver 3.12 .
What is the next step based on this video?
my point is ,do I have to bring the scope to home position befor I do star alligment ar I contunue from this position of the 23 hors transit ?
AstroRef68 3 days ago
@AstroRef68 Yes, once you have polar aligned, move the mount back to home position and then do your star alignment.

@wearefused Hi, no, the pre set up is a one off but it's good to just repeat it occasionally, but re polar aligning you are correct.
