The depth of the grow media needs to be a min of at least 250 mm. It needs the depth for the bacteria, fungi and all the other creatures to live and survive. However it is a great setup. Barry.
As far as Murray Hallam's aquaponics DVD he says that duckweed needs quiet water and it does really bad growing in moving water. I suggest you try that ans see it for your self(after watching his DVD or do some research.) Great system though and enjoy your work :)
