@rhodes1986 Thanks, I color-coded a regular old midi keyboard to match tracks and effects in my ableton set. Just took the whole thing apart and painted the keys with model paint. I don't recommend it- adhesion is good when you rough up the surface of the keys, but model paint is not meant to stand up to wear. You can see where the paint has worn off the keys. Next time I want to use Krylon Fuse- it's a spray paint meant for plastics.
@rhodes1986 Hmm, don't know that much about them, but my impression was that the Novation Launchpad was slightly more bang for the buck. The thing to keep in mind is that you can do so much with just Ableton and a simple controller like a nanopad or a midi keyboard. My midi keyboard is 10 years old and I will put my controllerism skills up against those APC wankers any day :D
@rhodes1986 yes is good, you can try the apc 20 is 50 more the price of the launchpad, about 170 bucks, but lauchpad seems more compact, more portable, the sliders on the apc's are very good touch, and launchpad doesn't need a power supply like the apcs.
@simonofthebollocks Yeah I dig it, I've purchased a bunch of drum hit libraries but of course I find one of the best snare sounds comes free with Ableton!
thanks for linking this tutorial. it definitely has some great info. it could have used a bit of editing (with the content presented **8.0 / 10.0 Will Check Out Channel Again**
@SyncrisisVideos thanks, when I saw the final run time I thought the same. But I wanted to do more than just say "here's how you do this"- I wanted to add some sense of history to it and pay tribute to the people who developed this sound. I guess I find it sad that millions of people enjoy these drummers' sound and only a small fraction know their names or anything about them.
In any case thanks for the feedback, I probably could have touched on all the points without being so wordy :)
Hey man nice setup and skills. I noticed your colored keyboard, why is it that u have it like that? And how did u do that?

@exaltron cool, do you think the Akai APC40 is a good controller for Ableton?

@gumdrops27 Korg Nanopad- a steal at $50. No sounds on it though, just a controller.
