  • Love his music and classy videos. When he died, I don't recall much media coverage, just heard he died in a Paris hotel.

  • What a stone cold groove..

  • This oughta be our New ! national anthem. Amazing song that captures the heart & soul of ALL Mankind.

  • Which 2 trolls disliked this? Clean your ears out and get some glasses. Jesus.....

  • Great artist. Wonderful man. Robert had so much soul. You can always tell he was trying to control himself on stage. On the inside, in his mind he was probably jumping up and down. I miss him so much, it isn't fair that he's gone.

  • HE INTERPRUPTED SOUL SO WELL

  • I loooove Robert Palmer!!! Fantastic song!!!

  • This song is so relevant, still, to this day.

  • I always remember hearing this tune on the car when we were driving to Grandma's house in 1978. I liked the synth work on the track. As for Mr. Palmer, 7 years before his career would really take off, we got a sneak peak of what was in store with this gem. I wish, before he died, he had done a cover of Dolly Parton's"Here You Come Again"; they shared a bithday together. He would've made that tune rock! Oh well; We miss you Mr. Palmer!

  • This song is like taking a spiritual journey.

  • 20+ year career, Lyric driven, versatile style, solo and group work. But you write his career is style versus substance. There is quite a list of artists that are considered talented that never had noteworthy record sales. The length of his career speaks for itself. Just because he had style doesn't equate to a lack of substance.

  • Great sound live.

  • Bring the bottle back

  • Robert Palmer definitely was a first class performer. Whether he performed his own songs or someone else's, he had a great voice & really tried to do the music justice with his unique charisma & passion for the music. He left behind an incredible body of music for future generations to enjoy. His body may have died but his soul is eternal. He truly was the James Bond of Boogie Woogie.

  • I was 14 when this was recorded. I remember being so affected by it and believing in the dogma of the song; and today, I live the creedo and love the song. I think it comes close to a spiritual thing for me. I listen to this tune a dozen times a year and get comfy knowing I live it. I love cultural and ethnicity blending and race equality as a goal. Thumbs this up if you agree...

  • rw

  • The guy was great. He was a performance artist. Knew exactly what he wanted to do and did it well.

  • Okay, read the poster's resume for RP, and learn that he's more famous as a 'lounge lizard' & for vids with sexy women.... and that RP's "material"/songs are of less importance (i.e. mediocre). Son, I guess being a pompous elitist is serving you well, but as for myself & all the musicians / band members I know from this era . . . give major props & respect to the "beloved" late MR. Palmer, seriously.

  • beautiful beautiful beautiful man

  • Back in the Days !!! Still dreaming the same dream today ... Rock On ..

  • True talent like Palmer took his songs, live, and turned them into better versions than those cut in a studio and play ad infinitum.

From this clip it's pretty easy to see he performed reeeeally comfortably on stage and understood exactly why understatement keeps those with ears coming back.

    Singing, not shouting.

  • This song is so beautiful, he could've easily slid into a version of Marvin Gaye's "Mercy Mercy Me" from this and never missed a beat. Such a shame he left us so suddenly.

  • This is the most beautiful version I've ever heard so far.

This song has the naivety of the 70's era: a mix of idealism and romanticism.

Unfortunately, we all know what followed.

May you Rest In Peace Robert Palmer.

  • Classy...I love Robert Palmer's music & style...I miss his music.

  • @MrPinoydude Me too. very much indeed. RIP Robert!

  • Like Ameretto, I used to hear this song on the radio regularly as a youngster in Ohio. It stuck in my head over the years and I always preferred the original to the version Mr. Palmer released once he gained massive fame with "Addicted To Love" and Power Station. So soulful. great words. That keyboard line. And Randy walkin his (b)ass off... Great lyrics and so much soul...

  • if anyone and i mean ANYONE hits the dislike button i will make it my life's mission to hunt you down and do really really bad things to you...like listening to justin beiber AND madonna at the same time over and over again for a really long time...got to see robert at braden auditorium on the campus of good ole ILLINOIS STATE U...fabulous...this was his encore...one of the best ever!...sadly missed but NOT forgotten...

  • God, I love this man and this song esp.

  • Marvelous. It's a classical Robert Palmer song ( one of many). It gives me strong feelings and brings back memories...What can I say... This talented man died too young. He had a brilliant idea of music combining Soul, Reggae, Jazz and Blues. He will be missed.

  • not to mention that beautiful "ooooh" he starts at 2:12. So nice and free.

  • i honestly cant describe how much this song makes me happy!!! rp is my hero

  • All I know is this artist never really got the recognition he deserved..This song is one of the most beautiful songs of all time.. its just got it.. no bull no bs from the heart..Robert Palmer remembered for addicted to love ..please this song blows that one away..it shows the talent this composer/ vocalist pocessed..awesome in one word..

  • @Kanescollectibles : I agree with you. Have you seen the video of Palmer performing "I feel good" alongside James Brown? it is available on YouTube and is quite stunning.

  • Today is a WONDERFUL DAY! This song has haunted me ever since the first day I heard it as a child growing up in Ohio. Never knew the title or who performed it, just loved the words. I heard it again many years later in Dover & I couldn't find the song title ANYWHERE! It reminded me of the better days of my childhood. Today, I was looking up Robert & I found the LIVE VERSION! Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! It brought back many happy memories. I am going to buy this today!

  • Thanks for this posting of a great song by a great performer. Peace and Blessings!!!

  • The guy on the bass looks like Randy Jackson. Is it him ?

  • @75tm400 Pierre "Pepe" Brock is the Bass player.

  • @jimsuard Oh ok,thanks. I like the way that dude plays. He looks alot like RJ. I know Randy Jackson played bass guitar with "Journey" just thought he might've played for RP too.

    Thanks again!

  • Great song with a great message. Wouldn't do if we were all the same - each and everyone of us are amazing and unique. Robert Palmer just oozed class and sophistication - can't believe he's gone. Great Post.

  • I love how this song is arranged. Everything fits together like a puzzle. Also, Robert Palmer was one sexy dude, if a straight guy can say such a thing, LOL!

  • @mootbooxle no lie. Its a good thing I was jail bait then.

  • The one thing this article misses is that unlike another song stylist from the day, Linda Rondstadt, Palmer and/or his associates dug for songs that the majority of the audience initially missed. He claimed those songs where Rondstadt couldn't, for the most part. Some of us listeners like to look for buried treasure; Palmer made his bread on it. Along the way, he did write at least two of his hits, "Give Me an Inch" and "Addicted to Love."

  • The man was so handsome!

  • Power 2 the people

  • Great song. Didnt realize it was so old. Check out the keyboard at the beginning.

  • "There is no profit in deceit,

    Honest men know that

     revenge does not taste sweet..."

    Excellent.

  • Halleluja! Such a shiny human deep song, stylish soulful singer, and so many good comments here! Timeless and classic, solid, cool and warm.

  • Absolutely LOVE and miss Robert Palmer

  • Im suprised Toto never did this. It feels like them Love the drums, keys, and bass guitar here

  • wait , randy jackson of American Idol playing bass here!??

  • I can't think of one contemporary singer, recording and performing at the moment who has anything like this soul, voice, class, charisma. Can anyone suggest anyone?

  • @chevgr : Nope.

  • Voice + Style + Smooth + Class = One Cool Dude

  • Un placer escucharlo!!! Copado el bajo...Palmer estaba joven... Bello!!!!!!

  • Barry White was asked to perform it, but didn't when Robert ask it. A few months later Palmer recorded this song by his self.

  • The keyboards & bass playing in this song is tight. The whole band is nice & tight. Very nicely done :0)

  • R.I.P. Robert!! Thanx for sharing this awesome tune with us!!!

  • The bass is sweet in this song

  • Amazing song ! This is a truly unforgettable song for me. I remember when it came out in '78 I was 19 years old and just starting to get my life together. I had my own apartment, car, and such. Those were some great times back then. I miss 'em. Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and relive the 1970's all over again.

R.I.P. Robert Palmer. Your contribution to the music world will always be very much appreciated.

  • I never get tired of this voice or this song... It's still one of my all-time favorite songs! Not only for the lyrics, but also the soulful way in which Palmer sings it. Robert deffinately had soul, and you can tell he deffinately 'feels' the music in this video. Unfortunately many failed to give his work it's just due because of his good looks... You either "got" what Robert Palmer was about or you didn't... hence, many blew him off as just a suave pop singer, when he was sooo much more.

  • Miss Robert.....

    (hi Bob)

  • Impressive!

  • im a poet i cant write music to me its not notes but words that touch me and the words to this song are incredable most people listen but they fail to hear the music world lost a great man when he died god bless his family and friends r.i.p robert

  • The guy had soul. No denying that fact.

  • Robert was great. This puts the screamers and certainly any/all rappers to shame. No comparison, really. Just wait, some stupid rapper will rip off a lick from this and make a million bucks rapping to it, if it hasn't happened already.

    R.I.P. Robert Palmer

  • thank you

  • What a touching performance. Beautiful voice. And he was indeed unbelievably gorgeous and just amazing.

  • Not only was he gorgeous, but VERY talented.

    He is definitely missed.

  • Robert was always a true class act. My brother hangs out with a circle that includes a couple of big musicians from the 70s/80s & one time they were talking about friends & fellows no longer around. I couldn't believe how they talked about Palmer. Glowing! They said he was as classy & nice a guy as rock has ever produced. True gentleman, nice to everyone, devoted family guy etc. I was really impressed by that.

Anyway thanks for posting, what a timeless, beautiful song!

  • A song that makes you sad and happy at the same time. What a performer he was.

  • Class, style and substance.Unlike todays useless pop music.....

  • @chip131313 Amen brother amen indeed!

  • long time no hear!

  • I always liked this song. I hear a Motown flare in this...got that "Marvin" feel to it. Brilliant!

  • we're all a part of robert and this song

    Be heard

  • If everyone lived this song what a wonderful and peaceful world we all would live in PEACE, RIP Robert

  • RIP Robert. You were one of the best singers of the 70's/80's. Robert Palmer was the king of STYLE when it came to a performer. He always looked bad ass with his custom made suits. I always wanted to imitate Robert Palmer and his suave appearance.

  • What a talent!!!! That man had a powerful voice!!!!

  • Pierre Brock overdubbed the bass part with Bob Babitt, the first providing the solid rhythm, the second composing the medolic part.

  • Brilliant RIP Robert awesome bass.

  • God given talent...your missed Bob.

  • miss.... him.

    rest in sweet peace, Robert.

  • A very good song!

  • great video... and an Exceptional song

    love it so much.

    Thankyou.

  • At approximately the 1:24 mark; the most poignant lyric is shared/sung by this incredible vocalist/songwriter, that is 'lost' with the overall beauty of this great song? Palmer was a victim of his own good looks and not taken that seriously as a lyricist/songwriter, who was NOT Dylan-esque; but on a more cereberal level? At least to me. I will never grow tired of this incredible song; nor his smokey sounding souful voice. Robert Palmer was a STAR before he became one.

  • You're absolutely right--Palmer was marginalized in ALL facets of his career: as a writer, arranger, producer, innovator, composer, musician, and vocalist...

It's just too bad your comments about his songwriting abilities posted here are moot, since he didn't write this particular song.

  • @gskunk56 so true. i think addicted to love probably lost him some cred to. eventhough it ain't a bad tune. it place in the zeitgeist probably too some sheen of hs ability

  • @gskunk56 For me his most memorable line was "She's so fine there's no telling where the money went." Sigh...:)

  • @gskunk56 Robert Palmer didn't write this tune.

  • I was 11 yrs old when I got tickets to the taping of this show. I was dissapointed that I didn't recognize anyone playing that day (Flo & Eddy and Martin Mull???) but I instantly became a fan of Robert Plamer after hearing this song!!

I've only seen this on the day it aired (1974). I ended up going with my sisters 19 year old (Hot) girlfriend!!! Thank-you for bringing back a ton of great memories!!

  • The guitar player is Freddy Wall

  • The bass player is Pierre Brock or "Pepe".

  • Robert was the best! Often imitated, never duplicated 100% concentrated sunshine and awesome!

  • Great souvenirs and this is really live which was rare in those days... Kudo RP!

  • Aaaah, yes. I remember it well. Thanks for posting!

Let's all learn the lesson...Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself!

  • Wow! Thanks palscooter and Ichnos71live

  • Has always been one of my favs. Sort of rips your heart out, then and now. A wonderful singer, with awesome power.
