Oh come on, there is only 1 U.S. flag. The Buck Act has nothing to do with the U.S. having a war time and peace time flag. In 1942 Congress passed a joint resolution which spells out the exact rules for use and display of the flag. ONE FLAG that is.
Oh, get this, there are no federal penalties for misuse of the U.S. flag. Each state has its’ own penalties for misuse, not the federal government.

Odds are, she was trying to make a point, but doesn't know how to address it. Who cares which flag it is? I mean, pledging your allegience should be out of pride, not out of fear. Her parents were called, why didn't they do more to explain their point? Oh yeah, easier to cause a scene.

@WarInBed That's easy... Its usually more beneficial to make a scene. Explaining ones views and personal opinion is typically overlooked by our society without some sort of reinforcing action. When people take things to the media for the public to see the response is usually immediate. What's the point of raising an issue if you didn't get anyone's attention?

@raventakayama Taking it to the media before jeapordizing one's schoolastic carrer would make more sense..and you'd figure a parent would want to do this before their child gets in trouble. In this situation, the child is responisble, but due to poor guidance from the parents.

@WarInBed The type of trouble this child is in is trivial. Its not like there was a dire consequence to what she did. She expressed herself and probably didn't fully understand what she was doing, but if her parents encouraged that type of thing then she did the right thing.

The founding fathers stuck it out to change the bullshit, they didn't leave because Great Britian said they had to. They didn't just fold. So I should just love everything that is going on with my government and not voice an opinion or rebuttal? Dissent is the GREATEST form of patriotism. Sound familiar? Yeah, you guessed it. Thomas Jefferson proclaimed this. Move to Iran/Iraq? You are a child.

@cockyhemi My statement does not say never question authority. My statement says if you feel you have no rights in North America, either US or Canada, feel free to move. If one wishes to quesiton authority, as this 4th grader did, perhaps she would have been better served if her parents explained how to change things rather than be defiant, honestly, to prove she knew something the teacher may not have. That's called using your ego rather than your mind. Bad parenting, if you ask me.

@RP4409 Hi i don't mean to insult any1 with this responce. But my "opinion" is that we shouldn't be made to belive or disbelive anything and that we should all be allowed to think belive and say what we want, as long as you don't have an intention of hurting sombody. If the little girl feels for sny reason she does not want too pledge alligence then she should be entiteled too that, Regardless of the reason. I actually think forceing the pledge of alligence in schools in the morning is wrong...
