The reason it is so easy to get in, I think, is that most of the nation doesn't have the balls to enlist. By easy, I'm talking top 25 percentile. 75% of americans are unfit for the military. An additional 20% are unfit for the marine corps. That means we are in the top 5 percent bracket BUDDY. It's easy to get started; How long will you last?

I used my GI bill and didnt get in a mess of debt. I doubt you can understand this, but some folks feel that going into a branch of the military is an obligation to give something back to your country. I lost 13 people that I knew in the Corps 2 of whom were my room mates at the barracks. Not one of those young men were dumb.

Some people can't make it past MEPS, because they did shitty on their ASVAB, or got hit on their head when they were 3, or have a centimeter of Eczema on their pinky finger. I'd bet a month's pay a guy such as yourself wouldn't survive three weeks in Marine Corps bootcamp, much less the three months they have to endure to earn the title. You have to be at least 17 with parental consent by federal law and it is harder to get into the military than college... you have a series of physicals, credit check, background check, citizenship, can't be a single parent without having a way to provide for you kids while you away, can't be fat, cant have any diseases, can't do drugs. If you did those things while in country well then youra shit bag

Drug abusers, no. The individual needs to be clean and pass a drug screening. If they have been in trouble because of drugs there needs to be proof that they are clean now. Individuals get kicked out of the military for simply seeking help for a slight drinking problem.
