Guitar Hero 1 and 2, and Rock Band, were all developed by Harmonix, a company out of Cambridge, MA. Due to RedOctane, the holder of the rights for Guitar Hero, being purchased by Activision, and Harmonix being purchased by MTV Networks, Harmonix didn't work on GH3. So Harmonix was copying themselves with Rock Band, and adding to it.

It is actually similar. Once you play on expert and get to know the patterns, you can transfer them to a real drumset with a bit of practice.

i think its the special edition which comes with one startocaster guitar that has tap buttons on the high note frets, a drum kit, and a mic, is 170 for next gen and ps2 is 160. the game is 60 and if you have a 360 GH controller you can use it but them you cant play the drum kit or sing

the $170 price really isn't that bad IMO considering all that you get. having friends and/or family join in is honestly some of the funnest multiplayer gaming i've done in a while.

on a side note, pretty much any usb microphone will work if you can't get the pack and want to sing. also, the xbox live headset is an option if you have the 360 version.

not to sound braggy or anything, but it really is easy. just my honest opinion. there are times on new songs that i don't really know the lyrics, but you can pretty much just mumble as long as you're in tune. but just because it's easy doesn't mean it's not fun. singing while playing another instrument by using a mic stand or headset is pretty fun too.

Harmonix wanted to move on and take music games into wild new directions. Rock Band is FAR more polished than GH3.

Rock Band is more about having fun with your buddies than thrashing rediculous combos.

It does however have MUCH stricter timings than GH3, so you have to be more precise even though the strings are less demanding.

I also played the demo at best buy today. Its alot harder than guitar hero in the way that you have to be more precise when hitting the notes. It seems like you have less time to hit each note. Hammer ons and pull offs work but i havent figured them out good yet.
