SWG was one of a kind, and I have yet to see any game come close to the originality this game portrayed before it stepped into line with all of the other wow-clones out there.
This game allowed nearly 100% customization to whatever play style you wanted, weather that was creating prototype items of just about anything in the game-- be it weapons, armor, vehicles, CREATURES, housing, medicine and buffs, etc the list goes on forever-- or you wanted a customized combat class, or even a combination.
Fuck MMOs. Buy a game, pay out the ass to keep it running, subject yourself to having to play alongside the avatars of an unwashed mass of sweaty basement-dwelling no-lifers instead of shitty and yet infinitely more tolerable AI, and then lose the better part of a decade's worth of data, progress, content, not to mention the time and money sunk in and the ability to play it? Man, fuck Galaxies and fuck The Old Republic. And WOW too. I'm glad Fallout isn't making an MMO, that'd piss me off.
@Aythreuk It just seems to me, like, okay. Videogames ARE an addiction. No getting around that. I got a stack of games that reaches the ceiling of my room. And even though I've beaten them I can go back and play them all whenever I want. MMOs are like crack, smack, meth, you know, the bad drugs. You get strung out until they shut down the game, and then go through withdrawal. They purposely make MMOs to make you addicted, and then yank the rug out from under you to fuck with you.
I played SWG a year or so a long time ago. Now I tested SWTOR and, well, I thought it would be an improvement in MMO. But after I reached level 30, I had to ask myself: where is the freedom I had in SWG a long time ago? Exhaustion zones? Restricted level design? Come on!! I pay for this!! Let me explore, surprise me!! I now quit my SWTOR account and kind of regret that I cant open a new SWG account ;( Like the saying: you know what you had when its gone.

soe cannot re-open swg even if they wanted to. lucas arts has them by the testicles. i played swg back in the day and even tho i didnt play it full time since the start it hurt pretty bad to see it close down. swg had some amazing mechanics that no other games ever seemed to pick up on.
This person: 1. Knows nothing about either SWG or TOR. 2. Since she knows nothing, she does not know how different they are. SWG: -a virtual world MMORPG -has 9 vastly different classes that are endlessly customizable to the player's taste -contains huge planets it would take days to fully explore TOR: -is an MMORPG, but it is far more mission/action oriented -has 8 classes, that, for all intents and purposes, can be customized in two basic ways -"planets" are more just small maps SWG 4 Ever.

Amazing how SWG (2003) has more features, more content, and more fun than World Of StarWarsCraft (2011). And don't give me that cop-out excuse "hurr it just came out! dey'll patch it!", Bioware had 5 fucking years and $300 million and all they could produce was WoW with V/A and LightBatons (sabers actually, you know, cut through things).
Shame on Bioware, they had true potential, but after the last disaster that was Dragon Age II there's really only one way for the TORtainic to travel now...
i agree that swtor isn't the best, but if you've played knights of the old republic, swtor is great, good story, SWG was amazing, but it's not coming back. You can't play the old one, so might as well play the new one? i am a fan of SWG and SWTOR

Funny, now that SWTOR is out and missing more than half the features that SWG had (for example: space, crafting, other races to choose from, housing, etc.), I really think the chick in the vid was wrong, when she told me to let SWG go and to look forward to SWTOR. SWG is a true sandbox MMO experience, while SWTOR is a Singleplayer RPG with Multiplayer elements thrown in.
@EreanMovies lol! space battles in swtor are a joke, compared to what swg offered. in swtor space battles are a mini-game, like star fox 64, in swg it was more like a simulator and you could even dekorate your entire inner ship and invite your friends on it. crafting sucks in swtor so far. and no, there are not even half the races swg had. hell, not even 1/4 of them. all of the races look like humans or are human-like (just in different colours). sorry,but it's no comparison to swg.

@AleXy86 They're clearly stated that it IS a mini-game, and are looking to improve it later on. They put space combat in simply to say that had it; they'd rather focus on the rich stories.

Star wars Galaxies was bad ass. Even being nge. Pre Cu would be an honor to play. And if they keep it running they should remake, remaster and amp up the old Star wars Pre-cu and call it a day..... Why? Because Star wars Pre-cu was my childhood dream. Over 150 classes or professions. You had to work hard to accomplish your goals AND everyone could just "be a jedi" I played in NGE and felt robbed even being epic enough to kill 6 dark/light jedi vs myself.
Yes that was in the EULA however it was not actualy SOE that chose to shut SWG down. The truth is BWA/EA got a no competition clause put into their contract with LA. TOR is an ok game , better then SWG? NO. They are both different and truthfully SWG could have held its own against TOR. Why? Because BWA has no experiance with MMO's. I was a beta tester for TOR and can honestly say that the only thing that makes the game special is the voice acting. TOR was released broken.
I think SWG was one of the most bold and epic MMO's ever to have been created. There really is no other MMO that you could do all the things you could do in SWG. Having said that, Sony killed the game in 2004 with the combat rebalance. I quit then and never looked back. I'm currently playing SWTOR, but it's a totally different game, but it is a game that could take the title from WoW, it already beat it's sales record, and has over a million subscribers.
They also disliked this video because a girl just insulted them or rather was just reading the script that another individual wrote that insulted them.
SWTOR is amazing, and a good nextgen Starwars mmo. The two games are hard to compare, as the gameplay is very different. But all in all as a SWG veteran I love SWTOR and our old guild is back and stronger then ever.
@silentstrike123 I think you will find that the SW:tOR crafting system is quite addictive and unique, and will presumably become even more interesting as the years go by.
SW:Tor is pretty awesome, however, Star wars Galaxies (PRE NGE/CU) has been the only game i have REALLY gotten into, there just has not been a game since that had the Epic crafting system that swg had, on top of player houses, AND an amazing way to level.
I've played quite a bit of SWTOR and I must say it's just like any other MMO I've ever played. I'm definitely going to go with SWGEmu... That game was incredible.

I personally think they should make swg free to play cause yes KOTOR is the bomb I am playing it, but the space combat in SWG is unrivaled also the ability to create player cities plus the character customization that and I had several level 90 characters that I very much miss, that and who can say they don't like Darth Vader and his and Palp's Empire. I hope they would at least consider it.

Been playing SWTOR, and I played SWG since almost the beginning. These petitions were never going to matter. Bioware would 'not' stand for competition in the form of SWG, so Lucasarts will have been 'forced' not to renew their contract with SOE. It's not really SOE's fault. As many a fatcat buisness gangster has said just before having someone murdered or some small buisness destoryed for their own gain: "It's just buisness."

I guess it's hard to please people who play MMO's religiously, since I don't I guess I like the game more than others, I also have more patience then most. But I also love SWG. I kind of wish they kept the game going.

@ONSLOKILLER SWG was community based with how crafting player cities, hate for other guilds, and all PVP was WPVP, these are things SWTOR can't replace. However, I do love SWTOR, it's a great game, but it's nothing like SWG used to be 6 years ago, so you can never replace SWG with SWTOR in the same way.

It's a much larger file, has larger planets, and has much more content than SWG.

@Timmehbob Player housing, it wasn't chairs. It was several great furniture pieces, and people made great homes and bases. Timeline, its based on the movie timeline rather then the video game timeline. Entertainment classes, there were several players including myself who liked hearing stories from all the people. Crafting classes, the end game crafting was amazing. Every resource you used effect the end product, and there were dynamic spawns on resources in all the planets. Do you want more?

Amazing how SWG (2003) has more features, more content, and more fun than World Of StarWarsCraft (2011). And don't give me that cop-out excuse "hurr it just came out! dey'll patch it!", Bioware had 5 fucking years and $300 million and all they could produce was WoW with V/A and LightBatons (sabers actually, you know, cut through things).
Shame on Bioware, they had true potential, but after the last disaster that was Dragon Age II there's really only one way for the TORtainic to travel now...

Funny, now that SWTOR is out and missing more than half the features that SWG had (for example: space, crafting, other races to choose from, housing, etc.), I really think the chick in the vid was wrong, when she told me to let SWG go and to look forward to SWTOR. SWG is a true sandbox MMO experience, while SWTOR is a Singleplayer RPG with Multiplayer elements thrown in.

@EreanMovies lol! space battles in swtor are a joke, compared to what swg offered. in swtor space battles are a mini-game, like star fox 64, in swg it was more like a simulator and you could even dekorate your entire inner ship and invite your friends on it. crafting sucks in swtor so far. and no, there are not even half the races swg had. hell, not even 1/4 of them. all of the races look like humans or are human-like (just in different colours). sorry,but it's no comparison to swg.

@AleXy86 They're clearly stated that it IS a mini-game, and are looking to improve it later on. They put space combat in simply to say that had it; they'd rather focus on the rich stories.
So you're saying the reason SWTOR sucks is because you don't like the simple and increasing progressive crafting, unlike the complete buttfuck that was SWG crafting, and you don't like that you can't play any fucking creature to crawl out of the mud, and only the important/major races? Star wars Galaxies was bad ass. Even being nge. Pre Cu would be an honor to play. And if they keep it running they should remake, remaster and amp up the old Star wars Pre-cu and call it a day..... Why? Because Star wars Pre-cu was my childhood dream. Over 150 classes or professions. You had to work hard to accomplish your goals AND everyone could just "be a jedi" I played in NGE and felt robbed even being epic enough to kill 6 dark/light jedi vs myself.

Yes that was in the EULA however it was not actualy SOE that chose to shut SWG down. The truth is BWA/EA got a no competition clause put into their contract with LA. TOR is an ok game , better then SWG? NO. They are both different and truthfully SWG could have held its own against TOR. Why? Because BWA has no experiance with MMO's. I was a beta tester for TOR and can honestly say that the only thing that makes the game special is the voice acting. TOR was released broken.

I think SWG was one of the most bold and epic MMO's ever to have been created. There really is no other MMO that you could do all the things you could do in SWG. Having said that, Sony killed the game in 2004 with the combat rebalance. I quit then and never looked back. I'm currently playing SWTOR, but it's a totally different game, but it is a game that could take the title from WoW, it already beat it's sales record, and has over a million subscribers.

SWTOR is amazing, and a good nextgen Starwars mmo. The two games are hard to compare, as the gameplay is very different. But all in all as a SWG veteran I love SWTOR and our old guild is back and stronger then ever.

I personally think they should make swg free to play cause yes KOTOR is the bomb I am playing it, but the space combat in SWG is unrivaled also the ability to create player cities plus the character customization that and I had several level 90 characters that I very much miss, that and who can say they don't like Darth Vader and his and Palp's Empire. Been playing SWTOR, and I played SWG since almost the beginning. These petitions were never going to matter. Bioware would 'not' stand for competition in the form of SWG, so Lucasarts will have been 'forced' not to renew their contract with SOE. It's not really SOE's fault. However, I do love SWTOR, it's a great game, but it's nothing like SWG used to be 6 years ago, so you can never replace SWG with SWTOR in the same way.

It's a much larger file, has larger planets, and has much more content than SWG.
And don't put "having to wait for level up" crap on me. If yo uplayed SWG, you know there was a level recommendation for each area. It's just as restricting, the only difference is that it's more barren. Not to mention how much more there is to explore in TOR.

@Timmehbob Player housing, it wasn't chairs. It was several great furniture pieces, and people made great homes and bases. Timeline, its based on the movie timeline rather then the video game timeline. Entertainment classes, there were several players including myself who liked hearing stories from all the people. Crafting classes, the end game crafting was amazing. Every resource you used effect the end product, and there were dynamic spawns on resources in all the planets. Do you want more?
